The Booyah had nine hits on Friday, almost equalling the ten hits by the Wisconsin Woodchucks, but still couldn’t overcome an 8-3 deficit in their home loss. Wisconsin jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and led 4-0 after the top of the third inning. The Booyah scored two runs in the bottom of the third and another the next inning to bring the game to a 5-3 score. Wisconsin scored more runs in the seventh and eighth innings. In the game, Green Bay got a home run from Dayson Croes. The loss moves Green Bay’s second-half season record to 10-12. They play the Madison Mallards at 6:35 PM. 

The Milwaukee Brewers found themselves down 4-0 after the bottom of the first inning against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, but still found a way to win. The Brewers scored four runs in the top of the third and fourth innings, to quickly go up 8-4. The Braves scored their last run in the bottom of the fifth inning and Milwaukee earned an insurance run in the top of the ninth to win 9-5. Eduardo Escobar made his appearance quickly known in Milwaukee with a solo home run in the ninth. The Brew Crew also got home runs from Omar Narvaez and Avisail Garcia. Milwaukee’s record is now 62-42 and they’ll face the Braves again on Saturday at 6:20 PM. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fought from behind all night long against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and the bottom of the tenth, but ran out of comebacks as Cedar Rapids took the lead in the eleventh and held on for a 6-5 win.

Lead-off hitter Edouard Julien gave the Kernels (43-33) a 1-0 lead when he hit a 3-2 pitch from Victor Castañeda over the wall in left-center in the top of the first inning.

Wisconsin (36-39) didn’t get their first hit of the game until David Hamilton doubled with one out in the fourth inning against Kernels starting pitcher Ben Gross.

Castañeda kept the Kernels in check after the homer by Julien through the fifth inning as he retired 15 of 17 batters faced.

However, Cedar Rapids scored twice in the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Julien started the inning with a double and he scored on a single by Wander Javier. Matt Wallner reached first on a close call for an infield single to put runners at the corners. Castañeda got the second out with a popup. Then, Seth Gary sent a high pop to left that was lost in the twilight. The ball dropped in for a single and the second run of the inning scored.

The Rattlers mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning. Korry Howell reached on an infield single as the ball died on the baseline halfway between third and home. Hamilton followed with a triple off the wall in front of the Wisconsin bullpen to score Howell. Joe Gray Jr. was next and his bloop to right field dropped just fair. Hamilton scored easily and Gray beat the throw to second for a double with Thomas Dillard, the league leader in RBI heading to the plate with the tying run at second base.

Then, the mood of the ballpark changed as Gray was called out for apparently losing contact with the base as the tag was applied by shortstop Wander Javier. Wisconsin manager Matt Erickson was livid and he argued vehemently before he was ejected from the game with his team still trailing 3-2.

The teams traded runs in the eighth inning. Max Smith drove in a run for Cedar Rapids with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth. Gray drove in his second run of the night with a base-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.

The Kernels looked like they had the game wrapped up in regulation. Melvi Acosta retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning. Carlos Rodríguez extended the inning with a single. Nick Kahle popped the first pitch he saw down the line in right. It landed fair and the Kernels outfield was so deep that Julien, the second baseman was the first fielder to reach the ball. Nick Stanley, who had taken over for Erickson as the third base coach, didn’t hesitate to send Rodríguez to the plate and Rodríguez scored easily as the throw to the plate was wild and the game was tied 4-4.

In the top of the tenth, Wisconsin reliever Evan Reifert got the first two outs and was ahead of Michael Helman with an 0-2 count. It looked like he would get out of the inning stranding Matt Wallner at second base where he started the inning. Reifert wound up walking Helman and it cost him. Jair Camargo was next and he singled to right to score Wallner with the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the tenth, the Rattlers started with Chad McClanahan at second base and after a walk to Howell and a bunt single by Hamilton, suddenly, Wisconsin had the bases loaded with no outs against Melvi Acosta. Dillard drew a one-out walk to force in the tying run, but the Rattlers couldn’t push across the winning run.

In the top of the eleventh, pinch-runner Daniel Ozoria started the frame at second and, once again, Reifert retired the first two batters. Javier was next and he lined a 1-2 pitch to third that Howell missed for Wisconsin’s fourth error of the night and Ozoria scampered home with the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Hayden Cantrelle started the inning at second base, but he was still there when the game ended as Erik Manoah Jr., the fifth Kernels pitcher of the nigh struck out the side.

Hamilton went 4-for-5 in the game and extended his current hitting streak to twelve games. He is 17-for-46 (.370) during the streak. Friday night was Hamilton’s second four-hit game of the season.

Game five of the series is Friday night. Cristían Sierra (1-2, 4.63) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Cody Lawyerson (0-2, 4.01) is set to start for the Kernels. Game time is 6:35pm.

In their first game of Wisconsin’s AA American Legion Baseball Tournament, the Ahnapee Trailblazers got the start they wanted, beating Medford 6-1. The win sets Ahnapee up for a Saturday tilt with Onalaska. If they win, they’ll play on Sunday at 7:00 PM. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 4:00 PM. The full schedule can be found here. 

The Green Bay Blizzard will make the trek to the Peace Garden State on Saturday to take on the Bismarck Bucks. It will be the fourth time the two teams have played each other. In the previous three meetings, the Blizzard are 0-3. The losses have come in order by scores of 41-35, 58-45, 50-29. For the Blizzard, it is also the second of five straight road contests to close out the regular season. The Blizzard are coming into the matchup with a record of 5-5. The Bucks are 6-6 on the season. Kickoff at the Bismarck Civic Center is at 7:10 PM. 

Rough seas from Thursday's north blow carried into Friday, with Lake Michigan's vast waters only settling to rollers late in the day. With strong currents and warm water, most anglers reported slow-going. 

The top port Thursday was B&K Bait and Tackle on Washington Island. They weighed a trio of 26-pound-plus salmon, including Troy Wettstein's 26.77-pounder, a 24-plus and a 20-plus, among others. 

We're down to the final day of the 2021 contest. The last weigh-in is 9 p.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, dates for the 40th anniversary K/D have been set: June 15-24, 2022. The tournament will run 10 days for the first time, with a noon cut-off on the final day.

A quick turnaround for the Door County Fair was no problem for Luke Lemmens Thursday night as he scored his second straight feature win in the Stock Cars at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay. 

While it was back to back wins for Lemmens, amazingly the other three divisions featured drivers winning at Sturgeon Bay for the first time in their careers;  Cole Czarneski in the Sport Mods, Chad Naze in the Street Stocks and Thomas Schulte in the 4 cylinder Bombers. 

For the second straight night, Lemmens, son of former Street Stock champ Rick Lemmens, proved to be the dominating force in the Stock Cars.  While he didn’t quite lead all the laps like he did last Saturday, he did lead the bulk of them, taking the point in dramatic fashion. 

On the 4th lap, he pulled off a 4-wide pass through turn three to take second, then dove to the bottom to instantly challenge Tom Stark for the lead.  In less than a lap he completed the deal by passing Stark to take the lead for good. 

On the way to the checker, he had to fend off pressure from Billy LeMieux until he dropped from the contest, as well as withstand a challenge from Brett Wenzel after a late restart. 

While he had to settle for second, Wenzel’s sixth straight top five finish allowed him to strengthen his division lead, which now stands at 25 points over Brett Koehler. Koehler snapped a bit of a sour stretch with a strong third place finish, in front of Dan Sell, Jr and Charlie Kroll. 

The last time Hall of Famer George Henkel saw victory lane in a Modified was May 12, 2001.  The start of the Sport Mod feature looked like 2001 all over again as Henkel took the lead at the drop of the green and built up a solid advantage on the rest of the field. 

Henkel fans were left to wonder “what if” caution wouldn’t have flown near the midway point that erased that lead. 

Czarneski, son of former Street Stock and Modified regular Tim Czarneski, in only his second ever visit to The Hill, was able to slip past after the restart.   

He, too, built a comfortable lead that was erased by a caution late.  Craig Dorner worked into second with four laps to go and closed to the back bumper of the leader but couldn’t quite pull even. 

While short of the win, the second place showing allowed Dorner to jump into second in the season standings, just 7 markers behind leader Randy LeMieux, Jr who finished fifth. 

Henkel had the local fans buzzing as he carded his best finish of the year, a strong third, ahead of fellow longtime veteran Mike Plate. 

Like Lemmens and fellow first-timer Czarneski, Naze is the son of a former Sturgeon Bay regular; two-time Bomber champ Jay Naze.  And ironically, his first career win came at the expense of a racer that competed in the old Bomber class against his dad; Scott Iverson. 

After taking a spin in the Justin Hartel machine Saturday night, bitten by the racing bug again, Iverson rolled out his own car Thursday. 

Blasting away from the field, and with no cautions to bunch things up, it appeared like Iverson was headed to victory lane for the first time since a Street Stock win in 2004. 

But as he worked his way through lapped traffic, Naze was able to chew up chunks of real estate in a short amount of time, closing in on the last lap. 

They were dead even heading out of four toward the line on the last lap with Naze edging ahead by inches to claim the victory. 

Shannon Guelette placed third, picking up a point in the title chase on Troy Muench who was just behind him in fourth. 

It was a career highlight night for Cody Patten who recorded his first top five, running up front solidly for the complete 20 laps. 

Four-time feature winner Dave DeGrave had his string of three straight wins snapped as he dropped from the contest early.  He retained third in the standings, but now sits 25 points behind Muench. 

The final first-time winner was Schulte, who took the lead on lap two from Kyle Walters. 

In order to win his first, Schulte had to beat the guy who has more wins in the class at Sturgeon Bay than anyone else.  Tony Everard, the current division point leader with 16 career wins in the class, grabbed second but couldn’t chase down Schulte. 

With the win, he became the sixth different winner in the class in six nights of racing. 

The Hill’s next event is slated for Saturday night, August 7th with a 6:00PM start time.  The Raceway’s four regular divisions will be in action, along with a special coin drop at intermission for the kids.

The Green Bay Booyah fell by the narrowest of margins in both ends of their doubleheader against the Wisconsin Woodchucks in Wausau on Thursday.

In game one, the Booyah fell in extra innings as the Woodchucks stole the game 3-2 in eight innings. The two teams traded runs early and the Woodchucks took a 2-1 lead before Elias Flowers drove in the game-tying run on an RBI groundout.  The Woodchucks got the win in the bottom of the eighth on a Ben McCabe sacrifice fly.

The Booyah fell to the Woodchucks again game two, this time by a 6-5 margin. The Woodchucks carried a one-run lead into the fifth inning before both teams had an offensive explosion. The Booyah scored four runs in their half of the inning leading off with Johnny Hipsman RBI single. Brendan Ryan collected one RBI on a wild pitch while in the batters' box and another two on an RBI single. The Woodchucks would respond with five runs in their half of the inning, three of which were unearned thanks to three errors by the Booyah. The Booyah would scratch across one more run in the sixth on a Tristin Garcia homer.

The Booyah and the Woodchucks will switch parks when they play each other again at Capital Credit Union Park Friday night beginning at 6:35 p.m.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers broke open a close game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on their way to a 4-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Joey Matulovich pitched five scoreless innings in his first Timber Rattlers start to pick up the win.

Matulovich, a Timber Rattler reliever in 2019 who was just promoted from Carolina earlier this week, made his High-A debut and he made it a good one.  The Kernels touched him for three singles in the second inning as they loaded the bases with one out, but he struck out the next two batters.  The Kernels also had doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, but Matulovich stranded those runners, too,

Matulovich scattered five hits, walked none, and struck out four for Wisconsin.  He was in line for a no decision until the Rattlers (36-38) took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Cedar Rapids miscue.

Antonio Piñero started the rally with a one-out single and Korry Howell singled to send Piñero to second base.  Hayden Cantrelle was next and he sent a grounder near the second base bag.  Second baseman Yunior Severino fielded the ball and stepped on the bases for the second out, but his throw to first was wild and that allowed Piñero to score for a 1-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids (42-33) did not go away.

In the sixth inning, Wander Javier doubled and Severino drew a walk against reliever Nash Walters with one out.  Walters escaped the jam by getting Michael Helman to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

In the seventh inning, Daniel Ozoria doubled with two outs.  Walters ended the threat by striking out Edouard Julien.

Harold Chirino, Wisconsin’s third pitcher of the night, entered the game in the top of the eighth inning and retired the first two batters he faced.  Then, Javier tripled to the corner in right field.  Chirino protected the 1-0 lead by striking out Julien to end the eighth.

The Timber Rattler offense provided some insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Korry Howell singled to start the inning and stole second with one out.  Then, Joe Gray Jr. singled to center to score Howell and the Rattlers were up 2-0.  Thomas Dillard followed with a double off the wall in left to put runners at second and third. 

Je’Von Ward made the score 3-0 when he lined a single through the drawn-in infield  to score Gray.  Wisconsin added a final run in the inning when LG Castillo reached on a fielder’s choice after a force play at second and he beat out a potential inning-ending double play.

The Kernels got on the board and made the game interesting against Chirino in the ninth.  Helman hit a home run to left-center to start the inning.  Chirino got the first out of the inning, but issued a walk and gave up a single and the Cedar Rapids had the tying run at the plate.

Chirino shut down thoughts of a Kernels comeback by striking out the final two batters to close out the game for his fourth save of the season.

Game four of the series is Friday night.  Victor Castañeda (3-4, 3.54) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Cedar Rapids has named Ben Gross (4-0, 2.41) as their starter.  Game time is 7:05pm.

The Milwaukee Bucks waited a while to select their man Thursday night in the NBA Draft.

The Bucks did not have a first-round pick and traded their 31st overall pick to the Indiana Pacers for the 54th and 60th selections, along with two future second-round selections. The team then selected Alexander "Sandro" Mamukelashvili from Seton Hall with the 54th pick. The forward is a former Big East Player of the Year, averaging 17.5 points, 7.6 rebounds per game last season while recording seven double-doubles. The Bucks also selected international player Georgios Kalaitzakis with the 60th pick. It is unknown if the Greek player will come to the United States and contribute after averaging less than five minutes a contest in the most recent Euroleague season. 

The Milwaukee Brewers ended their three-day stay in Pittsburgh with a 12-0 rout of the Pirates to sweep the series.

Freddy Peralta fanned five Pirates across six innings of scoreless work to capture his eighth win of the season while letting the offense do the rest of the heavy lifting. Lorenzo Cain's fielder choice was the only run allowed through five innings before the flood gates opened for the Brewers in the sixth. Rowdy Tellez and Tyrone Taylor each hit RBI doubles before Manny Pina busted the game open with his first of two homers on the day, this one being a three-run blast. Tellez joined the long ball game in the seventh with a solo shot before Pina added two more runs on his second homer in the eighth. With the game well out of reach, Cain drove in two runs on a single before Pablo Reyes ended the Brewers scoring for the night with an RBI double that drove in Cain.

The Brewers will next face the Atlanta Braves on the road with Corbin Burnes on the hill for a 6:20 p.m. start. 

While it was Randall Cobb that got the headlines, the Green Bay Packers did sign a new offensive tackle on Thursday.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced on Thursday that the organization signed 10-year veteran tackle Dennis Kelly. The Purdue alum has played the last five years with the Tennessee Titans after beginning his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Kelly played all 16 games last season while blocking for running back Derrick Henry, who led the NFL in rushing with over 2,200 yards. 

The Packers will host day three of the training camp in front of fans on Friday beginning at 10:10 a.m.

Door County has another opportunity to add a state champion to its 2020-2021 resume before the fall high school sports season begins.

The Ahnapee Trailblazers begin the American Legion Class AA State Championships Friday afternoon against Medford at 4 p.m. The Trailblazers showed the fight they had in the regional tournament, losing their first game to Ashwaubenon before rallying to win four straight. They were down 8-1 in the regional final before rebounding to win 10-8 over Pulaski. Medford's run was not easy. They cruised into Sunday winning all of their games before Rhinelander topped them 10-1. Medford won the rematch later that day 11-6.

Waupaca or Onalaska will be the Trailblazers next opponent, though a loss would force them to play at 10 a.m. Saturday while a win would delay their next contest until 4 p.m.

Fewer than a dozen fish were brought to tournament scales on Thursday, Day 7 of the 9-day Kewaunee/Door County Salmon Tournament. Many anglers reported catching smaller to medium-size fish, but the heavyweights were off the feed. Chances are that'll change for the final hurrah Friday and Saturday.

The forecast is favorable, with NE to SE winds 5-10 knots, switching to the SW 10-15 knots Friday night before swinging W 10-15 Saturday. The wild card is another chance of showers and storms Saturday. That's something to keep a close eye on.

There were only four additions to the top 50 Thursday, all good salmon between 25 and 26 pounds. We’re due for another 30! Who’s feeling lucky?

The Cedar Rapids Kernels hit three more home runs on Wednesday night to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 9-6 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  The Kernels have hit six home runs in the first two games of the series with Wisconsin and have hit 96 home runs on the season.  The game was halted by a severe thunderstorm after eight innings.  The Kernels have won the first two games in this series.

Cedar Rapids (42-32) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.  Yunior Severino doubled to left with two outs.  Jair Camargo followed with a double to center and Severino scored the first run of the game.

Kekai Rios walked and Chad McClanahan doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the third for Wisconsin (35-38).  Kernels starting pitcher Jon Olsen got the next two batters and it looked like he might escape the inning with no damage.  Then, he walked Korry Howell on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases.

Je’Von Ward stepped to the plate and hit a blooper to shallow center.  Mike Helman made a diving attempt at a catch, but the ball glanced off his glove and three runs scored while Ward made second with a double.

The Kernels retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning.  Helman started the inning with a triple.  Edouard Julien tied the game with a long two-run homer with one out against starting pitcher Zach Mort.  Then Seth Gray reached on a single and Wisconsin called on Taylor Floyd to get out of the inning.

Floyd struck out the first batter he faced for the second out, but a long fly to right-center off the bat of Wander Javier dropped just out of the reach of right fielder Jesús Lujano for a triple to score Gray and the Kernels were up 4-3.

The Timber Rattlers stormed back in front in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Ward singled with two outs on a two-strike pitch to keep the frame going.  Then, Thomas Dillard drove an opposite field home run past the scoreboard in left-center for a 5-4 Wisconsin advantage.  The homer was the fourteenth of the season for Dillard and gave him 62 RBI on the season.

The lead did not last long for the Rattlers.

Helman drew a walk with one out in the top of the sixth and Max Smith just cleared the wall in center to the right of the batter’s eye for a two-run home run and the Kernels were back in front by a score of 6-5.  Later in the inning, there was a walk with wo outs and Wallner followed that with a two-run home run.

The Kernels added another run in the top of the eighth.  Wallner singled, his third hit of the game, and went to third on a single by Javier, his third hit of the game.  Alex Isola drove in Wallner with a sacrifice fly.

Wisconsin got a rally going in the bottom of the eighth as lightning flashed around the ballpark as the storm approached the stadium.  Joe Gray Jr reached on an infield single with one out.  Rios singled down the line in right with two outs and Wallner misplayed the ball to allow Gray to score and Wisconsin was within 9-6.  Another walk to McClanahan brought the tying run to the plate, but a called third strike was recorded just before the skies opened up and the umpires called for the tarp.

The game was officially called thirty minutes later and the Kernels picked up the win.

Cedar Rapids had fourteen hits in the game and nine were for extra bases.  They had three doubles and three triples to go along with their three RBI.

David Hamilton had a single and a stolen base in the seventh inning for Wisconsin.  Hamilton has a ten-game hitting streak and 41 stolen bases on the season.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Joey Matulovich will make his High-A Central debut with the Rattlers as the starting pitcher after his promotion from Carolina in the Low-A East earlier this week.  Cedar Rapids has named Tyler Watson (2-0, 1.87) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 7:05pm.

The evening bite has produced some of the biggest fish of the tournament, but another round of storms late Wednesday kept many anglers off the water.

Some who did head out from Kewaunee to Sturgeon Bay before the weather moved in (Northern Door was already wet by early evening) might just have a whopper on ice, ready for the morning weigh-in. That’s exactly what happened today, when Austin Vance pulled up to Howie's Tackle with a 32.79-pounder that hit a plug about 65 feet down in 110 feet of water the night prior off Sturgeon Bay. It was the second straight 32-plus the port produced on back-to-back evenings.

The top 50 Chinooks in the 39th annual K/D are 25 pounds and over, and the top 100 all 22 pounds or more.

Three more days of competition remain, with the last fish to be weighed Saturday night at 9 p.m.It’s not over ‘til it’s over, and there’s a very good chance we’ll see more movement in the top 10 in the coming days.

More than $50,000 is on the line, including $10,000 cash, a free mount of the winning fish and a custom-made silver salmon ring for the lucky angler who ends up in first place. Second place is $6,000 cash and a Howie’s Tackle shopping spree, and third place is $4,000 cash.

The Milwaukee Brewers won on and off the diamond on Wednesday.

In Pittsburgh, the Brewers never trailed in its 7-3 victory over the Pirates. Avisail Garcia drove in the game's first run with an RBI single in the first inning before  Lorenzo Cain's two-RBI double in the fourth inning made it a 3-0 advantage.  The Brewers doubled up the Pirates in the sixth inning Luis Urias drove in two on a double and Kolten Wong tallied another run with an RBI sacrifice fly. Tyrone Taylor ended the Brewers scoring with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. Rodolfo Castro provided the offense for the Pirates, hitting homers in the seventh and ninth innings to cut the deficit.

During the game, the Brewers announced it traded for infielder Eduardo Escobar from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for outfielder Cooper Hummel and infielder Alberto Ciprian. Escobar, 32, who was selected to his first All-Star Game, batted .246 with 22 HR and 65 RBI in 98 games with Arizona this season. He made 92 starts (61g at 3B, 31g at 2B). The switch-hitter entered the day among the National League leaders in HR (T5th) and RBI (T6th) according to the Brewers Media Relations Department. 

The Brewers are back in action Thursday at 6:05 p.m. in Pittsburgh.

With Aaron Rodgers taking snaps, the Green Bay Packers opened the 2021 Training Camp under sunny skies on Wednesday. 

Rodgers' post-practice press conference where he aired his frustrations with the team and the acquisition of wide receiver Randall Cobb stole the headlines, Packers.com digital reporter Wes Hodkiewicz highlighted several positives from the first day of training camp. He commented on how the extra year of work benefited backup quarterback Jordan Love and complimented plays made by ?Equanimeous St. Brown? and ?Amari Rodgers? during the practice. ?David Bakhtiari?, Kevin King and Za'Darius Smith all missed practice, giving some other players important reps.

Wednesday marked the first of four straight days of training camp practices, all of which carrying the starting time of 10:10 a.m.

A game with potential playoff implications in Door County League baseball will be played on an unfamiliar night for local fans. Baileys Harbor and Kolberg will make up their June 27th rainout on Wednesday, August 4th at Baileys Harbor Recreation Park. The game will be played under the lights at 7:30 p.m. The Indians and the Washington Island Islanders each have three losses on the season, but the Islanders have the one-game advantage in the win column. Both are chasing Sister Bay, which the Indians split their matchups with earlier this season.

In what’s widely perceived as a surprising reconciliation effort with MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers are in the midst of finalizing a trade for Wide Receiver Randall Cobb. The veteran receiver was one of Rodgers favorite targets in the eight seasons he was a Packer, from 2011-2018. After departing Green Bay, Cobb spent two years in the lonestar state, playing one season for Dallas and another with Houston. Cobb’s has 41 career TD receptions with the Packers, and his most prolific season came in 2014 when he had over 1200 yards. 

The details of the trade have not been released quite yet as of Wednesday morning, but a tweet from Cobb’s page indicated the return is all but finalized.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay now knows at least who they will be playing in men’s and women’s basketball before opening Horizon League play for the 2021-2022 season. On October 29th men’s basketball will host an exhibition with St. Norbert’s College and then begin their regular season with a home game against Indiana State on November 9th. Just three days later the Phoenix travel to Wisconsin and they also participate in the Jersey Mike’s Classic from July 18th to July 21st. The non-conference schedule for UWGB ends with a December 22nd road game at Minnesota. 

The women’s basketball team begins their season with exhibition matchups at home on October 27th and November 3rd against UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville. Their regular season begins on November 9th in Brookings, SD against the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits. On December 12th, UWGB will visit the University of Wisconsin. The Phoenix will close out non-conference play against Central Michigan at home on December 20th.

With Tuesday having been the Green Bay Packers report date for training camp, Wednesday will kick off practices for the green and gold. The big storyline will be Aaron Rodgers’ return to Green Bay after a summer where his Packers future was in doubt at times. Another player who could be returning after a two-year departure is Randall Cobb. Since Monday, reports have begun to surface that a trade to bring back the NFL veteran before his eleventh season is nearly finalized. Practice in Green Bay on Wednesday begins at 10:10 AM. 

The Ahnapee Trailblazers know who they will be playing when the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Tournament kicks off in Antigo on Friday.

The Trailblazers will play Medford in its first matchup at 4 p.m. against Medford. A win puts them against either Waupaca or Onalaska at the same time on Saturday. A loss puts them in do-or-die mode at 10 a.m. against the loser of the same matchup.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks nearly batted around in three different innings to rout the host Green Bay Booyah 19-5 on Monday night. 

The Woodchucks scored six runs in the second inning, five more in the third, and added another five in the sixth to put the game well out of reach. It was 13-0 before the Booyah scratched across its first run in the fifth inning with an RBI double by Brendan Ryan. The Booyah would add single tallies in each of the next two innings thanks to a Jakob Runnels double in the sixth and a Kaden Hollow groundout. With the score standing at 15-3, the Booyah ended their night with a two-run error on the right fielder.

The two teams play each other again Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Capital Credit Union Park.  

Days after Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams posted twin Instagram pictures of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, it appears both will be at Green Bay Packers training camp this week.

WFRV in Green Bay posted a video of Rodgers' plane landing in Green Bay hours after several NFL reporters said that the MVP quarterback would be returning to play for the Packers. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that the Packers have made concessions to allow Rodgers to return for training camp. Those concessions include voiding the 2023 year of his contract, a possible trade for the 2022 season, not allowing the Packers to use a franchise tag, and put in place mechanisms to improve the "culture" inside the walls of Lambeau Field.

The turn of events came on the eve of when Packers veteran players were supposed to report to camp with practices beginning on Wednesday. 

Exactly 100 people laced up their shoes this weekend for the Washington Island Rec Run series.

In the 2K race, Linnea Fisco of Washington Island completed the distance in 10:25 to win the female title while Grayson Fisco of Washington Island covered it in 11:13 to win it for the males.

In the 5K race, Maciek Cieslukowski of Chicago, Ill. won it for the men with a time of 21:28 while Mollie Davis of Evanston, Ill. paced the women with a 21:57.

In the 10K race, Damian Bednorz of Bensenville, Ill. ran the fastest per-mile clip in all of the race as he won the men's title with a time of 37:22. Katarzyna Strozak of River Grove, Ill. won for the women with a time of 49:58. 

The Wisconsin GLO had to fight off a furious rally from the St. Louis Surge to capture a 86-82 victory Sunday.

The GLO led by 12 points with just over a minute to go after having a 50-31 lead at halftime. 

The GLO will have this coming weekend off before hosting their final home games of the season August 7th against the Flint Monarchs and August 8th against the Detroit Queens.

The Green Bay Booyah gave up five runs in the ninth to fall late to the Kenosha Kingfish 10-9 Sunday afternoon.

The two teams traded single tallies in the first inning before Elias Flowers drove in an unearned run to put the Booyah up 2-1. The Kingfish would take the lead with two runs in the sixth inning before both teams would add a run in the seventh. The Booyah scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning thanks to back-to-back doubles by Nathan Blasick and Flowers. After giving up a run in the bottom half of the inning, the Booyah added another three runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run double by Tristin Garcia and an RBI single by Johnny Hipsman.  The Booyah would fall in the ninth as Will Semb was credited with all five runs on his record, giving up a total of six in his 1 1/3 innings of work. 

The Booyah return home Monday to play the Wisconsin Woodchucks at 6:35 p.m.

The Ahnapee Trailblazers American Legion baseball team is heading to state after a big come-from-behind victory against Pulaski Sunday afternoon in Ashwaubenon.

The Trailblazers were down 8-1 before clawing back to get the 10-8 victory. The team won four straight games after falling to Ashwaubenon 2-1 on Thursday. On Friday they dealt the fatal blow to Kewaunee County in a do-or-die 6-5 victory. On Saturday, they toppled Pulaski 8-4 to set up Sunday's Legion title winner.

The Trailblazers will head to Antigo on July 30th for the American Legion AA State Tournament. Matchups are yet to be announced. 

The Milwaukee Brewers' offense was finally halted on Sunday night as they fell to the Chicago White Sox.

Brandon Woodruff only had one bad inning on the evening in his seven innings of work. In the third inning, the White Sox took their first lead of the series when Seby Navala hit an RBI single. Lance Lynn helped his own cause with a two-run single a few batters later. The Brewers got on the board with a fifth inning RBI double by Jackie Bradley, Jr. as he drove in Tyrone Taylor. 

The Brewers get a travel day on Monday before facing the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road on Tuesday. Brett Anderson takes the mound for the Brewers to face the Pirates' Tyler Anderson at 6:05 p.m.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the South Bend Cubs 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Four Rattlers pitchers combined on the three-hit shutout.

Wisconsin (35-36) took the lead in the first inning with a double steal.  David Hamilton and Hayden Cantrelle started the first with singles.  Korry Howell grounded into a force play at second and that put runners at the corners. 

Howell took off for second on a pitch home to Thomas Dillard.  The throw went through and Howell was safe as Hamilton timed his break to the plate perfectly and stole home without a play for a 1-0 lead.  The stolen base was the 40th of the season for Hamilton.

Timber Rattlers catcher Kekai Rios wiped out a pair of would-be base stealers early in the game to help starting pitcher Reese Olson face the minimum through four innings.

South Bend (32-39) mounted a rally with a pair of two-out walks in the top of the fifth, but Olson got the final out of the inning.  He finished his day with five scoreless innings, one hit allowed, three walks, and four strikeouts to put himself in line for his fifth win of the season.

Rios added to Wisconsin’s lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  The blast was his third of the season and gave Wisconsin a 2-0 lead.  Rios also threw out Delvin Zinn, the minor league baseball leader in stolen bases, on an attempted steal in the top of the sixth inning.  South Bend was 0-for-3 in stolen base attempts on Sunday.

Yeison Coca drove in the final run of the game with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

That was more than enough for the Wisconsin bullpen.

Harold Chirino allowed one hit over two scoreless innings.  Nash Walters pitched a scoreless eighth.  Taylor Floyd closed out the game with a scoreless ninth for his seventh save of the season.

The victory, Wisconsin’s third in a row, gave the Timber Rattlers a series victory as they took four out of six games from the Cubs.  It also gave them the win in the season series over the Cubs with seven wins out of twelve games.

The Rattlers have pulled to within one game of the .500 mark. They will try to get back to an even record for the first time since they were 18-18 on June 13 when they return to action Tuesday night with a home game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Neuroscience Group Field. Game time is 7:05pm.

Anglers dealt with occasional storms and warm water the first three days of the 39th annual Kewaunee/Door County K/D Salmon Tournament, but still managed some impressive catches.

Even without today's report from Kewaunee, the top 40 fish were already 23.80 pounds and larger.

Still just one 30-pounder, but it's a dandy!

Favorable winds have started to upwell some cooler water, and the forecast the next two mornings, at least, looks ideal.

The Green Bay Gamblers Damien Carfagna is more than just a defenseman and potential NHL draft selection. The Wood Ridge, New Jersey native and University of New Hampshire commit is also a star student. Carfagna was named to the 2021 USHL All-Academic team for achieving a 3.91 GPA. Carfagna played 50 games in 2020, scoring 18 points on 12 goals and 6 assists. Carfagna is in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft pool and could be selected by an NHL organization on Saturday.

The UW-Green Bay women’s golf program was recognized among the top 25 programs in the nation for academics. The UWGB team came in fourth on the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s academic top 25 list. The golfers turned in a combined grade-point-average of 3.951. The Phoenix trailed only New Mexico, Stanford, and Arkansas State. The Phoenix also placed six student-athletes on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.

The Milwaukee Brewers looked like they were headed for a tight and low-scoring matchup heading into the latter portion of Friday’s game with the Chicago White Sox, but that didn’t end up the case. Milwaukee was up 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, and then a six-run inning turned the tide of their 7-0 win. Tyrone Taylor opened the floodgates on a 3-0 game with a grand slam that made the score 7-0. Freddy Peralta started the game and gave up just one hit through the first four innings. Getting the win on the mound for Milwaukee was Randy Houser, who threw for two innings. Milwaukee is 57-41 on the season and plays the White Sox on Saturday at 6:10 PM. 

The Green Bay Booyah continued their hot second half of the season when they shutout the Battle Creek Bombers, 7-0. The Booyah scored a run in the first inning, two in the second, and another in the third to go up 4-0 early. The Booyah padded their lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and another in the seventh. Evan Estridge was named the Northwoods Pitcher of the Night for his performance which included 11 strikeouts through 5 ? innings. Estridge also was credited with the win. The Booyah got two rbi’s out of Johnny Hipsman and Dayson Croes. The Booyah face the Kenosha Kingfish at 6:05 PM on the road on Saturday. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers almost let one get away on Friday night against the South Bend Cubs at Neuroscience Group Field a Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin had an early 6-2 lead only to see the Cubs score seven unanswered runs over the middle part of the game to take a 9-6 lead. The Rattlers put the game back in the win column as they sent thirteen batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the eighth inning to rally past the Cubs for a 14-9 victory.

Wisconsin (33-36) scored three runs in the first inning. David Hamilton and Korry Howell walked to open the inning. Je’Von Ward drove in Hamilton with a grounder and Joe Gray Jr. homered over the wall in center for a 3-0 lead.

South Bend (32-37) scored two runs on a home run by Dean Nevarez in the top of the second to close the gap.

The Rattlers put three more runs across home plate on two home runs in their half of the second. Yeison Coca started the inning with a home run to the Wisconsin bullpen. Hamilton drew another walk and Howell crushed a 3-0 pitch over the wall in center for his twelfth home run of the season.

The Cubs came back with three runs of their own in the top of the third inning. Nelson Velazquez knocked in the first two runs with a double. A sacrifice fly by Ryan Reynolds got Velazquez across the plate and Wisconsin’s lead was down to 6-5.

South Bend scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game. The inning started with consecutive singles against reliever Freisis Adames. to put runners on the corners. Josue Huma singled with one out to score the tying run and send the go-ahead run to third base. Adames got the second out with a strikeout, but a wild pitch with the next batter at the plate let the go-ahead run score.

A two-out walk by reliever Brady Schanuel in the top of the seventh inning was followed by a long home run to right field by Yonathan Perlaza. The homer was the third hit of the game for Perlaza and the Cubs were up 9-6.

Thomas Dillard started the bottom of the eighth inning with a single against Samuel Reyes. The next batter was retired, but Reyes walked Carlos Rodríguez and LG Castillo on 3-2 pitches to load the bases. Chad McClanahan was next and he drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to force home Dillard and the Rattlers were down 9-7.

That brought Coca back to the plate and he sent a chopper to Huma. The throw to second was wild and sailed into foul territory down the line in left field and that allowed Rodríguez, Castillo, and McClanahan to score and Wisconsin led 10-9.

Hamilton and Howell continued the rally with consecutive RBI singles for a 12-9 lead. Two more walks reloaded the bases and Rodríguez capped the inning with a double off the wall in left for a 14-9 lead.

Nash Walters pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning to close out the comeback victory.

Castillo had three hits for Wisconsin while Howell went 2-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases, three runs scored, and three RBI. Rodríguez added two hits and Hamilton stole two bases while scoring three runs for the Rattlers.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Victor Castañeda (2-4, 3.54) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. The Cubs have named Max Bain (2-5, 6.66) as their starter. 

A couple of the Green Bay Packers biggest weapons are starting to heat up the NFL rumor mill. Training Camp starts on Wednesday at 1265 Lombardi Avenue, and there isn’t a firm answer as of Saturday morning on who will be under center for the Packers first practice. Many have tried to wade through social sentiments from interviews or social media posts, but there is still no clear word from reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers as to if he’ll make his way to titletown next week. 

The Packers will have to work out that situation while people are now showing concern about the future of star wide receiver Davante Adams. On Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that contract extension negotiations between Green Bay and Adams had stalled. Rapoport elaborated, stating that the two sides were working on a deal but on Monday discussions took a turn for the worse when Green Bay did not make a proposal that would have Adams as the league’s highest paid receiver. He went on to say that it is unclear if negotiations will pick back up. 

In the search for any insight, both Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams shared a photo to their Instagram accounts early Saturday morning of basketball stars Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen doing a fist bump. Many find it to be a reference to the Chicago Bulls “Last Dance” documentary, which chronicles the last of a legendary six title seasons between the two. 

The Green Bay Booyah found themselves in an early 2-1 deficit but overcame it in Michigan to beat the Battle Creek Bombers, 12-4. The Booyah took the lead in the third inning and scored in five of the last seven. In the top of the fifth inning, the Booyah put the game out of reach with a five-run inning. Because of his three-hit performance which includes two doubles and an RBI, Dayson Croes was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night. With the win, the Booyah are now 9-5 in the second half of the season. That record puts them in the midst of a four-way tie for first place in the Great Lakes West Division. The Booyah’s next game is against the Bombers again, starting at 6:35 PM. 

In a game that took nearly four hours and saw the teams combine to strand 30 runners on base while going a combined 4-for-28 with runners in scoring position, it was the visiting South Bend Cubs who held on for a 6-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

South Bend (32-36) scored twice in the top of the first.  Wisconsin starter Dylan File had two outs with a runner at first and walked the next two batters to load the bases.  Jake Slaughter smacked a single to center to score two runs for the 2-0 lead.

Dean Nevarez cracked a solo home run in the top of the second inning and the Cubs were up 3-0.

Wisconsin (32-36) loaded the bases with two out in the first inning and loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning, but did not score either time.

An error and two walks in the bottom of the fifth inning loaded the bases for Wisconsin again with no outs.  This time they would get on the scoreboard.  Carlos Rodríguez drew a bases-loaded walk and LG Castillo grounded into a force play at third to get two runs home.

The Cubs responded in their half of the sixth inning by putting two more runs on the board to go back up by three.  Tyler Durna drove in the first run with his third single of the game.  An RBI grounder by Nelson Velazquez made it 5-2.

The Rattlers scored a single run in the bottom of the sixth.  Chad McClanahan singled, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch.  David Hamilton doubled to left to drive in McClanahan.

Castillo walked and Jesús Lujano singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but both were left stranded.

In the bottom of the eighth, Wisconsin cut the South Bend lead to one run.  Je’Von Ward singled with two outs against Eury Ramos, the fourth Cubs pitcher of the game.  A pair of wild pitches moved Ward to third base.  A third wild pitch allowed Ward to score.

The Cubs had another answer and scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth.  Ryan Reynolds drew a lead-off walk and Nevarez doubled on a 3-2 pitch to drive in Reynolds from first base for a 6-4 lead.

Ramos retired Wisconsin in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win for the Cubs.
 

South Bend left sixteen runners on base while the Rattlers left fourteen runners on base. There were only two innings in which the side was retired in order.  South Bend recorded 1-2-3 innings against Wisconsin batters in the second and the ninth.  Both teams were 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

The Cubs lead this series with two wins to Wisconsin’s one victory.  South Bend also has a 5-4 edge in the season series with three games left between the teams this year.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Justin Bullock (5-2, 2.90) is scheduled to start for Wisconsin.  South Bend has not named a starter yet.  First pitch is 7:05pm.

In news that brought a mixed bag of reactions, the NFL sent out a memo to league participants indicating that there will be losses to consider beyond just a game if COVID19 gets in the way of a scheduled contest this season. This could affect the Packers, if a COVID outbreak came among unvaccinated players. The league announced that it won’t make the same accommodations as it did in the 2020 season when teams occasionally rescheduled games, sometimes on Tuesday’s or even a Wednesday. In 2020’s 17-week schedule, the league made sure to play all 272 scheduled games. This year, the league is planning an 18-week schedule, but without the hiccups that came last season. The Packers made it through the season with very few COVID positives, and zero rescheduled games. 

While most restrictions are no longer in place for vaccinated players, those that haven’t taken the vaccine will be subject to 2020’s NFL COVID19 protocols. As a result of a potential COVID outbreak among unvaccinated players, the team with the outbreak may have to forfeit the game and take a loss. Other penalties include players not receiving game checks and the losing team having to pay for financial losses from the lost game. As of Thursday, 78% of the league’s players are either fully vaccinated or in the process of getting vaccinated. All teams are above a 50% vaccination rate, and 14 organizations are above the 85% mark. It was reported in June that while they are waiting on the players roster to catch up, Packers staff is nearly all vaccinated. 

Starting August 2nd, The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association made their hire of Mel Dow for the Associate Director official. Dow will replace Wade Labecki, who officially retires on September 1st. Dow will take on a variety of tasks, including administration, coordination, and rounament planning for baseball, wrestling, and tennis. Dow will also play an essential role in eligibility, camps, out-of-season participation, foreign students, and coaching contact. 

Dow has had a plethora of stops in several capacities. Dow has been the Athletic Director in the Stoughton School District since 2010. Dow also spent just over a decade at Prairie du Chien High School teaching physical education and coaching wrestling, football, and track and field. Dow also was an assistant coach for UW-La Crosse wrestling from 1999t to 2000 and taught and coached in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1997 to 1999. In 1996, Dow founded Wisconsin’s first visually impaired wrestling team.  

Dow has been affiliated for some time with the WIAA, having served on its Sports Advisory Council since 2018. Experience on other committees include the WIAA’s Sportsmanship Committee and the Strategic Plan Committee of the Wisconsin Athletic Director’s Association. Dow was even the tournament director for the USA Wrestling World Team Trials in 2014 to 2015. Dow is a UW-La Crosse alum and a 1992 graduate of Prairie du Chien High School. 

The Green Bay Gamblers head man will have some new hardware to place on his mantle. Gamblers president Jeff Mitchell was named the 2021 Dave Tyler USHL Executive of the Year. Mitchell won the award in his first season after being promoted to the President position. Prior to his tenure as president, Mitchell served as the Director of Business and Promotions since the 2008-2009 season. In his time with the Gamblers organization, Mitchell has been a part of two Clark Cup victories and three Anderson Cup titles. Mitchell also served on search committees that found head championship head coaches and general managers in Jon Cooper and Derek Lalonde, both of which have won Stanley Cups. He was also on the committees that found Eric Rud and current leader Pat Mikesch. Business accomplishments include consistently being near the top of the league in attendance and growing corporate sponsorships. 

Jeff MItchell is the second manager to win the award after Brendan Bruss won it in 2018. The award honors Dave Tylers’s commitment to USHL and juniors hockey in the USA. Tyler served as the USHL President from 1982 to 1994, and worked with USA Hockey from 1975 to 2007. In a release from the Gamblers organization, Mitchell thanked Brendan Bruss, Pat Mikesch, Greg Lynch, Heidi Lou Radish, and other Gamblers staff and volunteers. 

A former Green Knight will be on the NHL bench after St. Norbert College alum Spencer Carbery was hired as an Assistant Coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Carbery graduated from SNC in 2006 after playing 87 career hockey games for the Green Knights and scored exactly 100 points. Carbery knows about what it takes to reach a title, having been on 2004 and 2006 NCAA Division III runner-up teams. Carbery started coaching in 2010 and his most recent stop was in the AHL as the head coach of the Hershey Bears and was the league’s Coach of the Year this past season. In a statement, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe complimented Carbery, saying he has a great mind for the game as well as the necessary work ethic, energy, and communication skills the Leafs are looking for.

The Green Bay Packers surprised many when they announced on Tuesday that the “Packers Road Trip” was making a comeback after two years off. If you’re lucky enough to be at a surprise stop, you will get to see members of the Super Bowl XLV championship roster. The bus trip through the state begins on Thursday and will finish on Sunday. Former players expected to be part of the surprise crew include Morgan Burnett, Nick Collins, Ryan Grant, and James Jones. The bus will be Packer-themed and make stops at places like hospitals, camps, community centers, and other places to surprise fans.

The Milwaukee Brewers briefly held a one-run lead before eventually losing to the Kansas City Royals Wednesday afternoon at American Family Field.

The Royals struck first in the fourth inning with a pair of RBI hits by Andrew Benintendi and Hunter Dozier only to see the lead disappear in the fifth inning. It was then when the Brewers scored three times on a sacrifice fly by Rowdy Tellez, an RBI double by Christian Yelich, and a Wily Adames run-scoring groundout. The Royals would take the lead back for good in the very next inning when Dozier struck again with an RBI single to tie the game and Nicky Lopez knocked in the winning run with a two-run double. Jorge Soler capped off the scoring with his ninth homer of the season in the top of the eighth. Brent Suter was the hard-luck pitcher on the afternoon, giving up three runs in the decisive sixth inning, none of which were earned thanks to one of two errors on the day for the Brewers.

After a day off on Thursday, the Brewers will host a potential World Series matchup when they host the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox.

The City of Milwaukee will salute its newly crowned NBA champion Bucks with a parade and celebration on Thursday.

The parade will begin at the intersection of E. Wisconsin Ave. and N. Prospect Ave. The parade will then proceed west on E. Wisconsin Ave. before turning north onto N. Water St. From there, the route will continue on N. Water St. to E. Knapp St. before ending on E. Knapp St. at the Milwaukee River. Members of the Bucks organization from the past and present will participate. 

The festivities will continue in the Deer District with a championship rally featuring members of the Bucks organization past and present, Governor Tony Evers and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. The stage will be set up in Block 6 of Deer District, which is located directly north of Fiserv Forum between Vel R. Phillips Ave. and Fifth St. Screens will be set up throughout the Deer District for those wishing to participate but can not get near the stage.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers put some early runs on the scoreboard, received another outstanding start from Carlos Luna, and got a late grand slam from Thomas Dillard to put the game away for a 7-2 win over the South Bend Cubs on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Wisconsin (32-35) scored twice in the first inning for the second game in a row.  Je’Von Ward and Joe Gray Jr. delivered consecutive RBI singles with two outs to put the Rattlers up 2-0.  Gray’s single also knocked South Bend starting pitcher Ryan Jensen out of the game after 2/3 of an inning and 36 pitches.

Kekai Rios added a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning for a 3-0 lead for the Rattlers.

South Bend (31-36) scored their first run on their first hit.  DJ Artis homered over the wall in center to start the fourth inning for the Cubs. 

The homer was the only run Luna allowed.  He pitched six innings, allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out nine.  The nine strikeouts was a season high for Luna and he was in line for his third win of the season.

However, there were a few nervous moments after Luna left the game.  Cristían Sierra walked Bryce Ball with one out in the top of the seventh.  Yonathan Perlaza stepped to the plate with two outs and hit a deep drive to right-center.  The ball hit off the middle of the wall for a double to score Ball and the Cubs had the tying run at second base.  Sierra got out of the inning with a groundout and the Rattlers lead was at 3-2.

The Timber Rattlers put the game away in the bottom of the seventh.  Hayden Cantrelle, who had three hits to extend his hitting streak to seven, started the frame with a single.  Then, David Hamilton walked and Korry Howell was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  That brought Dillard to the plate and he jumped on the first pitch he saw and lined the ball over the wall in left-center for a grand slam.

The slam was the fourth of the season for the Timber Rattlers.  Dillard’s home run was his team-leading twelfth of the season.  He also has 57 RBI in 2021.

Sierra tossed a scoreless eighth and John LaRossa pitched a perfect ninth to close the door on the Cubs.

The series is even at one win for each team.  The Rattlers and South Bend have split eight meetings this season with each team winning four times.

Game three of the series is Thursday night.  Dylan File (0-0, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Cubs have named Matteo Bocchi (1-0, 3.55) as their starter.  Game time is 7:05pm.

The Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA championship for the first time in 50 years behind Giannis Antetokounmpo historic play on Tuesday night.  Antetokounmpo scored 50 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Bucks held on for a 105-98 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

With the crowd at Fiserv Forum chanting “Bucks in Six” in the waning seconds, Antetokounmpo sealed the game with a free throw capping a 17 for 19 night at the charity stripe.

The victory gave the Bucks their first championship since 1971 when Milwaukee defeated the Baltimore Bullets on the road to sweep the series. 

The game started out sluggish with both teams struggling from the field before the Bucks took a comfortable 29-16 lead after one period.  The Suns responded by outscoring the Bucks 31-13 in the second quarter to take a 47-42 lead into intermission. 

The Bucks rallied to tie the game after three quarters 77-77, before seizing control in the fourth quarter and taking as much as an eight point lead down the stretch.  Phoenix was able to cut the lead to four, but Khris Middleton hit a clutch jumper with just under a minute to give the Bucks a 102-96 lead.

Antetokounmpo became only the second player in NBA history to win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Finals MVP and All-Star Game MVP.

The Green Bay Blizzard could not get the offense going quick enough in its 31-21 loss to the Sioux Falls Storm on Sunday at the Resch Center.

The Blizzard found themselves in a 21-3 halftime deficit before Jeff Budzein's second field goal of the day was followed up by a touchdown pass from Brook Bolles to Kezlow Smith. Bolles would muster one more touchdown pass in the final minute to Keshaun Taylor to get a little closer after the Blizzard defense gave up a touchdown of their own just ten seconds before.

Sunday's game marked the final game at the Resch Center this season before the Blizzard finish the year on a five-game road trip. The Blizzard finished with a 4-4 home record. They start the trip on Saturday in Des Moines when they face the Iowa Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. 

The Milwaukee Brewers will take a backseat to the Bucks for at least one night as the division leaders take on the Kansas City Royals. 

The Brewers picked up right where they left off after the break with a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds to open up the second half of the season. The Royals were on the opposite end of a three-game sweep, losing to the Baltimore Orioles on consecutive nights at home.

The Brewers and the Royals in a pair of matinees beginning Tuesday at 3:10 p.m. Eric Lauer will pitch for the Brewers and face the Royals' Mike Minor. The switch in the start time was predicated by the Bucks' home NBA Finals game that could potentially be a title clincher. The two teams will play each other again on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. 

In other Brewers organization news, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers open their six-game set against the South Bend Cubs Tuesday night at home.

Max Wagner hit eight homers but it was not enough in the Northwoods League Home Run Derby Monday night in Mankato.

Wagner is representing the Green Bay Booyah in this week's All-Star Festivities which conclude with the game itself on Tuesday night. His Great Lakes team could not get the win as the Great Plains squad captured the title with their last batter. Lakeshore's Griffin Doersching led the entire field with 13 dingers.

Tuesday's All-Star Game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will also feature Booyah pitcher Logan Lee. 

A lot has changed since the Milwaukee Bucks last won an NBA Championship, but the feelings from lost opportunities could disappear Tuesday night at the Fiserv Forum with a game six win over the Phoenix Suns.

The Bucks have not won a title since 1971 when they toppled the now renamed San Francisco (now Golden State) Warriors and Baltimore Bullets (now Washington Wizards) to become the fastest expansion team in professional sports to win a league championship. 

The Bucks put themselves in a position to clinch the championship in front of their own fans with a 123-119 win against the Suns in Phoenix on Saturday. The Bucks had four players score in double figures with Giannis Antetokounmpo (32), Khris Middleton (29), and Jrue Holiday (27) all scoring at least 25 points. The Bucks defense also had to weather the hot shooting Devin Booker, who scored 40 points in the Suns loss. 

With a win, the Bucks could become the fifth team in NBA history to win the Finals after falling in a 2-0 series hole. They will do so in front of a capacity crowd inside the Fiserv Forum and potentially 65,000 people outside in the Deer District. The organization announced plans to expand the district's capacity from 25,000 on Monday.

Tuesday's game begins at 8 p.m.

The end of the Door County League season is quickly approaching.

In the two reported games, Institute beat West Jacksonport 6-4 while Sister Bay toppled Washington Island 3-0. Solo homers by Sam Forkert, Griffin Cole and Tom Sawyer were the only offense on the day in the Bays' victory.

In Northwoods League action, the Green Bay Booyah got back to their winning ways with a 4-1 win against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Sunday afternoon.

Mykel Page did not allow a run in seven innings while striking out three. Dalton Pearson's fourth-inning single drove in a pair of unearned runs. He would get that elusive RBI in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly. Dayson Croes added an insurance run with an RBI single. The Dock Spiders would get on the board in the bottom of the ninth with a Ryan Lasko fielder's choice off of Mikade Johnson but would get no closer. The Booyah is now off for the next three days for All-Star action. Max Wagner and Logan Lee will represent the Booyah in the league's Midsummer Classic. 

Corbin  Burnes nearly went the distance in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

He collected 25 of the game's 27 outs, striking out 12 in the process. Angel Perdomo finished things off with a pair of strikeouts. The Brewers got things going in the first inning when Rowdy Tellez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. They broke the game open in the fifth inning when Tyrone Taylor hit a two-run double and Jackie Bradley Jr. clubbed a two-run triple to make it 5-0. Christian Yelich (7th inning) and Wily Adames (9th inning) slugged homers to cap off the scoring for the Brewers.

The team will head home for a series against the Kansas City Royals. Its game on Tuesday has been moved to 3:10 p.m. so people can tune into the Milwaukee Bucks and its potential Finals-clinching game later in the evening.

The Peoria Chiefs used four pitchers to shutout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park for a 2-0 victory.  Wisconsin outhit the Chiefs 5-4, but couldn’t push a run across the plate in the series finale.  The six-game set ended with both teams winning three games.

The starting pitchers were locked in a duel through 4-1/2 innings.  Peoria starter Wilfredo Pereira worked around a pair of doubles, a walk, and a single and kept Wisconsin off the scoreboard in his five innings of work.  Timber Rattlers starter Victor Castañeda allowed one walk through his first four innings as he retired twelve of the first thirteen batters he faced in the game.  That changed in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Tyler Reichenborn doubled to start the fifth for Peoria (25-41).  He was still at second with two outs.  Imeldo Diaz sent a grounder towards left, but David Hamilton cut the ball off deep in the hole to hold Reichenborn to third base.  However, Matt Chamberlain followed with an RBI single to right to score Reichenborn and the Chiefs were up 1-0.

Moises Castillo made it 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning when he greeted Wisconsin reliever with a lead-off homer.  The Chiefs hit at least one home run in each of the last eleven games between the two teams this season.
 

Wisconsin (31-34) only got two more hits in the game off three Peoria relievers.  David Hamilton had a one-out single in the sixth and Hayden Cantrelle, who had doubled to start the game, singled with two outs in the eighth.

Cantrelle has at least one hit in five straight games.  He is 7-for-17 during the streak.

Freddy Pacheco closed out the game by striking out the side in the top of the ninth for his sixth save of the season.

Sunday marked just the third time Wisconsin has been shutout this season.  The Timber Rattlers had not been held scoreless in a game since June 18 when they lost 9-0 in a no-hitter at Quad Cities.
 

Sunday was also the end of the season series between Wisconsin and Peoria.  The teams split the 24-game schedule as each team won twelve times.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday at home against the South Bend Cubs for the first game of a six-game homestand.  First pitch on Tuesday night is 7:05pm.

The Green Bay Glory won its season finale in front of friendly fans and under sunny skies Sunday afternoon at Capital Credit Union Park 3-2 over North Shore United.

North Shore United was a late add to the calendar after Chicago City was forced to cancel due to injuries. The Glory took advantage by scoring three times in the first half, including the eventual game-winner in the closing minutes of the opening stanza off a rebound. Scoring goals for the Glory included Nicole Friis, Brianna Messner, and MacKenzie August. United would make a strong push after the break, adding two tallies in the 60th and 90th minutes.

A number of local graduated senior athletes dotted area All-Star games this weekend.

Alex Daoust capped off his final game as a Southern Door Eagle with an appearance in the WBCA All-Star Game. The Packerland Conference Player of the Year scored 16 points in his Division 4-White Team's loss.

On Friday, Gibraltar Luke Steebs and Sevastopol's Logan Beyer and Spencer Evenson were a part of the Eight-Man South Division team that beat the North squad 35-16. Beyer had one rush for -6 yards and Evenson had a 28-yard kick return to represent the Pioneers. Evenson also had eight tackles. Steebs had five tackles, but highlighted the day with a 32-yard interception return.

Blake Yagodinski represented Luxemburg-Casco in the 11-man Large School game. Playing on the offensive line, his North team won 7-0.

The Wisconsin GLO did not let the lack of an opponent stop them from having a game on Sunday.

A regularly scheduled exhibition against the Chicago Breeze did not go as planned due to unknown reasons. Instead it was the Green team beating the Blue team 115-109. According to reporter Steve Clark, former UWGB product and WNBA draft pick Julie Wojta led the way with 38 pts, 11 rebounds and former Badger player Jolene Anderson adding 32 pts and 12 rebounds. Jessica Kelliher registered 27 pts and Angela Rodriguez collected 26 to lead the Blue team.

Their next games are this coming weekend against the St. Louis Surge, who dealt the GLO's first loss in franchise history earlier this season. The two teams will play at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Oshkosh.

The Milwaukee Brewers out-hit the Cincinnati Reds 15-5, but could only outscore them 7-4 on Saturday. The Reds scored the first couple of runs in the game in the second inning, going up 2-0. The score would remain 2-0 until the top of the top of the seventh inning when the Brew Crew scored three runs. The Reds tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning which would be the last score before extras. The Brewers went back up 4-3 in the top of the tenth, but Cincinnati tied the game back up and extended the game to its eleventh inning. The Brewers had a great eleventh inning at the plate, and scored three runs to put the 7-4 game out of reach. 

The Brewers are 55-39 with the win and face the Reds on Sunday at 12:10 PM.

Heating up after their first win on Tuesday, the Green Bay Glory women’s soccer team will finish up their season on Sunday afternoon. The Glory play Chicago City Club at home. The two teams met just under a month ago, on June 19th. That game ended in a 2-2 draw. First touch in Green Bay on Sunday is scheduled for 3:00 PM. 

The NBA final series lead hung in the balance as the Milwaukee Bucks met up with the Phoenix Suns in Arizona for game five of the series on Saturday evening. The Bucks took game five, 123-119, and a 3-2 series lead. The Suns looked poised to run away with the game from the start, leading 37-21 after one quarter. The Bucks wouldn’t go away, erasing the gap by halftime. The game headed into the break with the Bucks up 64-61 after scoring 43 second quarter points, including 14 from Jrue Holiday. 

The Bucks grabbed their first double-digit lead midway through the third quarter, going up 85-75. The Bucks led by as much as thirteen in the quarter and  at the end of it, Milwaukee led 100-90. In the fourth quarter, the Bucks saw their double-digit lead nearly overcome by the Suns, but a steal with under thirty seconds left by Jrue Holiday sealed the Bucks fate, and put them a game from being finals champions. 

The Bucks big three led the way, as Giannis Antetokounmpo had 32 points, Khris Middleton had 29, and Jrue Holiday had 27 points and 13 assists. Pat Connaughton shot 4-6 from three-point range and had 14 points. The Suns got a valiant effort out of Devin Booker, who had 40 points. 

The Bucks have a chance to hoist the Larry O’Brien with a game six win on Tuesday. The game will be held at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee at 8:00 PM. It would be the first time since 1971 that the Bucks won a finals.

The Green Bay Booyah were down 3-0 at the seventh-inning stretch, and despite a push in the half-inning they were unable to overcome in the 3-2 loss. Green Bay got a run from Max Wagner and Jakob Runnels in the seventh. No other scores took place in the game. Green Bay plays Fond du Lac on the road on Sunday before heading to the All-Star break. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM. 

Also for the Booyah, pitcher Evan Gates was named as a late addition to the Great Lakes team for the 2021 All-Star game. Lee is 3-1 on the bump this season with a 3.53 ERA. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tried to cling on to their one-run lead on Saturday against the Peoria Chiefs, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth and lost 3-2. Peoria got on the board with a run in the second inning. Wisconsin got their first run in the top of the fifth inning with a Joe Gray Jr. solo home run. The Rattlers followed that up with a run in the sixth via a Je’Von Ward RBI single. The lead would be short-lived, as the Chiefs two eight-inning runs came off a pair of solo homers. 

The loss puts Wisconsin’s record at 31-33 on the season. The Timber-Rattlers play the Chiefs in a road game again at 1:35 PM on Sunday. 

Sunday will be the first time in twenty-three days that the Green Bay Blizzard take the gridiron for what could be known as the “Inclement Weather Matchup” with the Sioux Falls Storm. Sunday’s game will be at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The extended break for the Blizzard is largely because of the cancellation to their scheduled July 10th game in Louisville against the Xtreme. It’ll be the first time the two teams meet this season, as Green Bay heads to Sioux Falls for their regular season finale on August 21st. 

The Blizzard will come into the Sunday contest with a 4-4 record this season. The Storm are also 4-4. The last time the Blizzard played was on June 25th when they beat the Iowa Barnstormers in a 48-44 thriller. Sunday’s game with the Blizzard and Storm starts at 3:05 PM. 

The Wisconsin Glo hosted the Detroit Queens and were down 35-19 at one point and trailed 44-33 at halftime, but the Glo had control when the final whistle sounded, winning 88-78. The win marked the third straight for the Glo, who now have a 4-1 regular season record. Wisconsin gets to prepare for later games with a Sunday exhibition matchup with the Chicago Breeze. The two teams played an earlier exhibition where the Glo won big, 115-35. The start time for Sunday’s game is 3:00 PM at the Menominee Nation Arena. 

On Saturday, with the chance to put the Phoenix Suns’ backs against the wall in the NBA finals, the Milwaukee Bucks will take center-court for a game five road showdown. The Bucks have yet to win a game in Phoenix this season, and dropped the first two games of the series there. The Bucks seized momentum in their homestand, winning game three handily and prevailing in game four. 

Through the finals this far, Milwaukee averages 110.5 points per game in the series compared to Phoenix’s 109.8. Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 32.3 points per game this series, leading all finals participants. Khris Middleton averages 24.5 for the Bucks in the finals, and Devin Booker is averaging 27.5 so far. 

With the series tied at 2-2, tip-off in Phoenix on Saturday is at 8:00 PM CST. 

The University of Wisconsin-Madison was selected to do extra research on hamstring injuries for NFL football players. The NFL awarded the University of Wisconsin a grant through the league’s effort to learn more and combat injuries to lower extremities. Several researchers will use word-class quantitative imaging, analytics determining risk factors, and on-field bio-mechanics. The goal for the study is to pave the way for future research that involves orthobiologics as a treatment for muscle strain type of injuries. 

The Wisconsin Glo women’s basketball team will look to get their third win in a row and so forth with their pair of games this weekend. The Glo are sporting a 3-1 regular season record and are 5-1 overall. On Saturday, Wisconsin plays the Detroit Queens for the first time on their home court. The following day, the Glo have an exhibition game with the Chicago Breeze, who they beat in an exhibition once this season, 115-35. Tip-off for Saturday’s game with the Queens is at 7:00 PM at the Menominee Nation Arena.

PEORIA, IL – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers received clutch hitting, clutch pitching, alert base running, and a big defensive play in a 4-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Friday night at Dozer Park. The win pulled Wisconsin to with a game of the .500 mark.

Nick Kahle put the Rattlers (31-32) in front with an RBI double to score Carlos Rodríguez in the top of the second inning.

The Chiefs (23-41) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on their first hit of the game. Pedro Pages hit a lead-off home run in the inning to even the score.

They nearly took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Peoria had runners at first and second with two outs against starting pitcher Justin Bullock. Jhon Torres sent a soft liner to shallow center, but second baseman Hayden Cantrelle raced to the ball and snared it out of the air with a backhanded grab and held on for the final out as he tumbled to the ground.

Wisconsin took the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Thomas Dillard singled with one out and was still at first with two away. He was running on the first pitch to Je’Von Ward and Ward sliced a hit down the line in left. The throw went into second and Dillard never stopped running. Ward stopped short of second and got caught in a rundown long enough to let Dillard score the go-ahead run.

Peoria threatened again in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Nash Walters. Leandro Cedeno doubled off the wall in left-center with one out. Then, a walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Walters struck out Tyler Reichenborn for the second out. Taylor Floyd was called out of the bullpen to get the final out of the inning and he got it by striking out Francisco Hernandez to keep Wisconsin up 2-1.

Dillard delivered a pair of insurance runs for the Timber Rattlers in the top of the eighth inning. David Hamilton walked and stole second to start the inning. Dillard hit a towering fly ball to left with one out and the ball landed on the grass berm beyond the wall for a two-run homer and a 4-1 lead. The home run was Dillard’s eleventh of the season.

Floyd worked 2-1/3 innings, walked one, and struck out seven before turning the game over to Evan Reifert for the ninth inning.

Reifert tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.

Game five of the series at Dozer Park is scheduled for Saturday night. The Timber Rattlers have not announced their starter for Saturday's game. Peoria sends Connor Lunn (3-5, 5.25) to the mound. 

The Green Bay Booyah once again outlasted the Madison Mallards in their 5-4 extra-inning victory on Friday night. Both teams crossed the plate early, as the Booyah were up 2-1 after the first inning. After two more runs in the sixth, the Booyah led 4-1, but the lead later slipped. The Mallards would make a strong push, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth. 

In the bottom of the tenth and runners on base, Brendan Ryan dug into the batter’s box and came up big for the Booyah. He made contact with a pitch that was mishandled by the Madison shortstop. The winning run crossed and the Booyah improved to 7-4 in the second half of the season. Green Bay hosts Fond du Lac on Saturday with a 6:35 PM start time. 

After spending the past several days getting time off or enjoying All-Star break festivities, the Milwaukee Brewers were back in action on Friday, getting an 11-6 win. Milwaukee appeared to be staring down a thrashing from the Cincinnati Reds, down 4-1 after three innings, with their only run coming in the top of the second inning on an Avisail Garcia solo home run. The momentum started to shift Milwaukee’s way when Willy Adames hit a two run home run, also scoring Kolten Wong. The homer cut the Reds lead to 5-3 after five complete. 

The Brewers kept lighting up their foot on the gas in the sixth inning, getting RBIs from Luis Urias and Wong. The Brewers also scored a run when Jackie Bradley got on base by error. After six innings, the Brewers were up 6-5 for their first lead of the game. The Brewers scored five more runs in the eighth inning, a Urias home run and another RBI from Adames. Up 11-5 in the bottom of the ninth, the Reds shrunk the gap by one run. 

MIlwaukee is now 54-39 this season and five games ahead of the Reds in the NL Central. The Reds and Brewers battle again on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 PM. 

The University of Wisconsin Green Bay men’s soccer program finalized their schedule for the 2021 season on Thursday. To kickoff the seventh season for Phoenix men’s soccer, they will have a non-conference road game with Marquette on August 26th. They will also face the Wisconsin Badgers on August 29th in Madison. The schedule features six non-conference games and sixteen regular season games overall. The non-conference schedule ends when the Phoenix host Northern Illinois on September 25th. UWGB opens up conference play against Cleveland State on Saturday, September 11th, which is also their first home game. The St. Norbert College Green Knights left the Midwest Conference with a bang. The Green Knights were recognized as the conference leader in Academic All-Midwest Conference selections for the 2020-2021 school year, with 99 overall. Because of fall and winter sports being cancelled due to the pandemic, just spring 2021 sports were awarded. The minimum GPA needed to qualify for the Academic All-Conference honors was a 3.33 in the academic year. Athletes can only be counted toward the total once if they earned honors in multiple sports. A list of the athletes who earned honors per the SNC athletics website can be found below. 

The Peoria Chiefs used three home runs to build an early 4-1 lead against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Dozer Park. Wisconsin chipped away with two late runs, but Peoria’s bullpen held on to the lead and finished the 4-3 victory over the Rattlers.

Peoria (23-40) hit a pair of home runs to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Tyler Reichenborn hit a solo home run with one out. Matt Chamberlain cracked a two-run home run with two outs.

Wisconsin scored their first run with their first hit of the game. Peoria starter Logan Gragg retired the first ten batters he faced before walking Hayden Cantrelle with one out in the top of the fourth. Thomas Dillard stepped to the plate with Cantrelle still at first and two outs. Dillard, ripped a double to the corner in right on an 0-2 pitch to score Cantrelle.

Chandler Redmond hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Chiefs were back up by three runs. The Chiefs have hit 29 homers in 21 games against the Timber Rattlers this season. They have hit 35 home runs in 42 games against the rest of the High-A Central League.

The run in the fourth inning was the only one given up by Gragg on the night. He allowed one run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts over six innings before turning the game over to his bullpen.

The Rattlers cut into the deficit in the top of the seventh inning, Joe Gray Jr walked to start the inning against reliever Jacob Schlesener. Carlos Rodríguez followed with a single. Yeison Coca drove in Gray with a single to left. Wisconsin stranded the tying runs in the inning as the next two batters were retired.

In the top of the eighth, Korry Howell doubled with two outs and Dillard drew a walk, but the Chiefs called in Freddy Pacheco from the bullpen to get the final out of the inning.

In the ninth, Rodríguez was the lead-off hitter and he hit a double to right. LG Castillo was next and he singled to right to score Rodríguez. However, Pacheco struck out the next two batters and got the final out on a flyout to center to close out the game and Peoria’s eight-game losing streak.

The loss denied the Timber Rattlers an opportunity to get back to the .500 mark. Wisconsin was 18-18 on June 13 after a win at South Bend, but have not been back to the break-even point since a loss at Quad Cities on June 15.

Game four of the series is scheduled for Friday night at Dozer Park. The Timber Rattlers have named Justin Bullock (4-2, 3.06) as their starting pitcher. The Chiefs will counter with Nick Trogrlic-Iverson (3-3, 5.19) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Game time is 6:35pm. 

Nadir Lewis would be the hero for the Green Bay Booyah on Thursday night, hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to top the Madison Mallards, 4-3. 

In the Green Bay victory, Max Wagner got the first homer of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Booyah a 1-0 lead. Madison looked destined to overtake the game, scoring a run in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the eighth to go up 3-1. In the bottom of inning eight, the Booyah scored two more runs and tied the game heading into the ninth where Lewis performed his late game magic. Green Bay had 11 hits in the game and Madison had 8. The win puts the Booyah at 6-4 in the second half of the season, and tied for second in the Great Plains West standings with the Mallards. 

The Mallards and Booyah meet in Green Bay again on Friday with the first pitch being thrown at 6:35 PM.

You’ll get a chance to not only see football in the Green Bay Packers regular season home opener on September 20th, but you can also celebrate with some live music the day before. Preceding the game will be a free concert outside of Lambeau Field on September 19th. The festivities lead up to the 7:15 PM Monday night matchup against the Detroit Lions, where fans will get a “Kickoff Weekend” rally towel. More activities on Kickoff Weekend and the concert will be released in early August. 

You can now know when to see the Phoenix hit the pitch. The University of Wisconsin Green Bay announced their 2021 regular season schedule on Wednesday evening. Their schedule is made up of 18 regular season games and five non-conference two exhibition games. After opening the season against the University of St. Thomas August 19th, UWGB also hosts neighboring state schools in Northern Michigan and Northern Illinois in non-conference play. In road non-conference matchups, the Phoenix take on Marquette in their second game of the season and Chicago State on September 5th. 

The Phoenix start their conference schedule at home against Robert Morris on September 16th. The schedule in its entirety can be found with this link. 

Four Green Bay Gamblers will represent the United States in a pair of upcoming tournaments the organization announced on Wednesday.

Forward Jayson Shaugabay and defenseman Danny Nelson were named to the 2021 United States Under-17 Men’s Select Team.  Both players were recently selected by the Gamblers in the 2021 USHL Futures Draft. 

Forward Cameron Lund and goaltender Austin McNicholas were named to the 2021 U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team that will compete August 2-7 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia. Lund was able to sneak in a couple games with the Gamblers last season, playing in two games and registering one goal. McNichols was a draft pick in the USHL Futures Draft.

High school wrestlers in Door and Kewaunee counties will be allowed to compete more in the upcoming season.

The WIAA approved new rules for gymnastics, hockey, and wrestling at its meeting in June. Wrestlers will be allowed to wrestle in 50 matches during the course of the season with no limit on the number of multi-team events as long as it is under the 14 event cap. Trackwrestling.com will also provide the data needed to seed wrestlers at the state tournament rather than having the coaches have the sole discretion on the process. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rode an early 8-0 lead to a 10-4 victory over the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park on Wednesday night. Carlos Rodríguez and Je’Von Ward each had three hits and drove in two runs for Wisconsin on the way to the team’s third win in a row.

The Timber Rattlers (30-31) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Ward doubled with two outs to score Hayden Cantrelle for the 1-0 lead. Wisconsin grabbed a 5-0 lead with four runs in the top of the second. Nick Kahle started the scoring in the frame with a home run to left, his first home run of the season. Cantrelle singled with two outs to keep the inning alive. Rodríguez was next and he tripled to right-center to send Cantrelle across the plate. Korry Howell followed with titanic home run to left-center. The blast was Howell’s tenth home run of the season.

The Rattlers poured it on in the top of the third with here more runs. Ward and Jesús Lujano started the inning with singles. Yeison Coca followed with an RBI single to score Ward. A throw to third was cutoff and an attempt was made to get Coca at second, but the throw was wild to let Lujano score. Later in the inning, Cantrelle drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for an 8-0 advantage.

Peoria (22-40) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wisconsin starting pitcher Reese Olson hit Chandler Redmond on a 1-2 pitch with one out. Tyler Reichenborn made Olson pay when he tripled to right-center to get Redmond home. The throw to third to try to get Reichenborn hit him and deflected to the Wisconsin dugout. Reichenborn got up and scrambled home before the ball could be reached. The next two batters reached base, but Olson stopped the rally dead in its tracks by getting Imeldo Diaz to ground into an inning-ended 6-4-3 double play.

Olson worked five innings, struck out seven, and turned the 8-2 lead over o the bullpen. The Chiefs chipped away with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Leandro Cedeno hit a two-run home run with two outs and Peoria was down 8-4 heading to the eighth inning.

Wisconsin got both of those runs back in the top of the eighth inning. Rodríguez doubled home the first run and Ward’s RBI single plated Rodríguez for a 10-4 lead. Rodríguez came to the plate in the top of the ninth inning needing a home run to complete the cycle, but he grounded into a force play.

Nash Walters worked a perfect eighth with two strikeouts and Brady Schanuel worked a perfect ninth with three strikeouts to close out the game and send the Chiefs to their eighth consecutive loss.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Dozer Park. Carlos Luna (2-0, 0.92) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Chiefs have named Logan Gragg (0-3, 7.01) as their starter. Game time is 6:35pm. The broadcast will be on AM1280, WNAM and internet audio starting at 6:15pm. The game is also available on MiLB.tv.

The Green Bay Booyah met up in Wausau for a twin-bill with the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Wednesday, and got halfway through it, despite an hours-long rain delay. The Booyah took a one-run loss in their first seven-inning game and never got to their second one.

In game one, Green Bay got on the board first when Nadir Lewis hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. Wisconsin answered with two of their own in the bottom half and another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up, 4-2. After the sixth inning, the game went through a four hour, nineteen minute rain delay. After resuming, the Booyah scored just one of the two runs needed to extend the game in the seventh inning, and the Woodchucks took game one, 4-3. The second game was postponed until July 29th. The Booyah are now 5-4 in the second half of the season and host the Madison Mallards on Thursday, beginning at 6:35 PM.

The Green Bay Glory soccer club got their first win of the 2021 campaign on Tuesday, defeating Milwaukee Bavarian Soccer Club on the road. The Glory got their revenge after losing to Bavarians 1-0 at home on Saturday. The Glory got a goal from Hanna Lech at the 9’ mark and  another from Nicole Friis at the 30’ point.

After getting their first win of the season, Green Bay’s overall record is now 1-7-1 this season. Their regular season ends at home on Sunday against Chicago City Soccer Club. First touch on Sunday is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

Wednesday’s NBA Finals matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns was a fight with the opponents exchanging punches throughout the contest. The Bucks got the last strike behind a 40-point performance from Khris Middleton and tied the series at two games apiece with a 109-103 win. 

The Bucks and Suns went back and forth in the first half, which showed as the game went into halftime tied at 52. The Bucks trailed by six after the third quarter and were down for much of the fourth. In the last three minutes, the Bucks started to take over the game on their way to the six-point win. 

Aside from Middleton’s big night, the Bucks also got a 26-point night from Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez had 14. Milwaukee held off the Suns despite a 42-point night from Devin Booker, including scoring 18 in the third quarter. 

The series returns to Phoenix for game five, which will begin at 8:00 PM on Saturday.

The University of Green Bay Wisconsin Phoenix released their 2021 volleyball schedule, which will be the school’s 38th season in history. They start the season with their home invite on August 27th in which they’ll play four matches in two days. They’ll start the invite by opening their season against Ball State then playing North Dakota State University later that same day. On August 28th the Phoenix will play University of St. Thomas who is in their Division I transition and also go against Northern Iowa. To end their non-conference schedule, UWGB will play two matches in Dekalb, IL, including one against the University of Wisconsin on September 17th. 

The Phoenix open Horizon League at Purdue Fort Wayne on September 23rd. The home conference opener is against Northern Kentucky on October 1st, which is two days before UWGB hosts defending conference champion Wright State. The Horizon League Championships are held from November 19th to November 21st and will be hosted by the regular season champion. The entire schedule can be found using this link.

In the pursuit of getting their first NBA title in fifty years, the Milwaukee Bucks will get another opportunity to host the Phoenix Suns and build off their stellar performance on Sunday. Milwaukee won game three of the series 120-100. The Bucks came back home down 2-0 in the series, and are now down just 2-1. Milwaukee will head back to Phoenix after game four is played, and will be hoping it goes back west as an even series. 

For Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokounmpo is coming off of back-to-back 40-point performances. Neither team has been held under 100 points in any of the three finals games. Tip-off at the Fiserv Forum is at 8:00 PM. 

A handful of Milwaukee Brewers got to represent the MLB National League on Tuesday in the MLB All-Star game, which was won 5-2 by the American League. Four of the Brewers five representatives were there as pitchers. Those players were Josh Hader, Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta, and Brandon Woodruff. The one representing Milwaukee in the field was the catcher, Omar Narvaez. He went 1 for 2 with a single. 

Corbin Burnes got the start for the NL on the mound, and went two innings and gave up four hits and two runs, and also got two strikeouts. Freddy Peralta also got an appearance and shined, striking out the side in his one inning. 

Milwaukee also completed their First Year Player Draft, making their round 11-20 selections. The twenty-one Brewers selections include 14 college players and seven from high school. The Brewers also drafted nine pitchers with a balance of righties and lefties. Four of the pitchers are left handed and five are right-handed. A full list of the draft picks from the Brewers organization is pictured below.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers used the back half of their game on Tuesday to gain a comfortable lead en route to a 6-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs. The game marked the first of a six game series in Peoria. The Timber Rattlers started the scoring in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double from Hayden Cantrelle. After four complete, the game was tied at 1 before the Rattlers would take off. 

Nick Kahle got a single that scored two runners in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 3-1. The Rattlers scored two more the following inning, as Joe Gray Jr. scored on a walk and Yeison Coca hit an RBI single to make the score 5-1. In the top of the ninth, Je’von Ward grounded out into a fielder’s choice, in which Hayden Cantrelle came across the plate. With the win the T-Rats are now 29-31 overall this season and play the Chiefs again on Wednesday, with the first pitch being thrown at 6:35 PM. 

The Green Bay Booyah looked bound for a comeback win on Tuesday against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, but were unable to hold on in the final inning. The game was tied at 2 runs each after the first inning. The Dock Spiders tacked on two runs in the second inning and another in the fourth to go up 5-2. Green Bay seized momentum in the top of the seventh inning when they scored four runs, and took a 6-5 lead. 

Green Bay would be unable to close out the game, and gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth. Fond du Lac scored the winning run in the tenth. The Booyah ended the game with nine hits, including two-hit performances from Kaden Hollow and Elias Flowers.

The series between the Dock Spiders and  the Booyah ended in a tie. The Booyah’s record in the second half of the season is now 5-3. The Booyah head to Wausau to face the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Wednesday with a start time of 12:05 PM. 

The Wisconsin GLO showed why they are the reigning league champions over the weekend with a pair of victories in Michigan.

On Saturday, the GLO lead was only four points heading into the final quarter over the Detroit Dodgers before taking the win 87-77. Taylor Wurtz led the way with 25 points thanks to seven three-pointers and Jolene Anderson chipped in 20. Former Phoenix standout Jessica Lindstrom recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. 

On Sunday, the GLO had a seven-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 85-63 win over the Flint Monarchs. Wurtz continued her hot streak with 22 points with four shots made from behind the arc. She was outdone by teammate Hannah Whitish, who scored a career-high 27 points and a franchise-record nine three-pointers.

The GLO return home this weekend with games against Detroit Queens at 7 p.m. on Saturday and the Chicago Breeze at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

On Monday, newly hired University of Wisconsin Green Bay Athletic Director Josh Moon took the podium in front of family, faculty, student-athletes, and local media for his introductory press conference. Moon started off the presser celebrating his family who was in attendance, highlighting his 94-year-old grandmother who made the trip. Moon also made it known how special it was for him to be back in his home state. 

Moon has experience in multiple capacities in NCAA Division I & II athletics including his most recent nine-year run as the athletic director at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. Moon was an assistant coach at North Dakota State University and Ohio University. In that time, Moon built his connection to current UWGB Men’s Basketball head coach, Will Ryan. Moon complimented athletics in the Dakotas and spoke about trying to emulate parts of what both NDSU and South Dakota State University have done. He said he wants to transfer some of that to UWGB. 

Moon’s time as UWGB AD will officially start on August 1st, and until then he’ll try to make his last couple of weeks at NSU count. 

Moon ended his press conference saying, “go Phoenix,” and wishing the Milwaukee Bucks luck in the NBA finals.

Tickets to the annual Packers Family Night officially go on sale Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster. Fans can buy up to 10 tickets, which will only be available in mobile form.  Gates for the Family Night practice will open at 5:30 p.m., and the team will be introduced on the field at 7:20 p.m. The event will still end with its traditional fireworks display.

Packers Family Night was cancelled last year due to the pandemic and Lambeau Field has not hosted a capacity crowd since it beat the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round in January 2020.

The Milwaukee Brewers have players prepping for All-Star break activities but in the meantime the front office was hard at work on Tuesday. After drafting an outfielder and infielder on day one of the First Year Player Draft, the Brewers added arms and then some to the organization.

One of the players highlighted in Milwaukee’s draft was the third round choice of Alex Binelas. The third baseman out of Louisville is also a graduate of Milwaukee’s Oak Creek High School.  Along with Binelas, the Brewers took two players from the South Carolina Gamecocks program and crossed the border to take players out of Minnesota and Southern Illinois Carbondale. The following nine players were selected by the Brew Crew on Monday.

• Round 3, 86th overall: Alex Binelas, 3B, Louisville

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Those four runs were enough for the Rattlers to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits in the series finale.

The starting pitchers battled through 5-1/2 innings.  Quad Cities starter Christian Cosby held the Rattlers to one hit, a Chad McClanahan double in the fifth, over five scoreless innings.  Wisconsin starter Freisis Adames held the River Bandits off the scoreboard on one hit, an infield single by Jimmy Govern in the top of the fifth, through the top of the sixth.

Wisconsin (28-31) broke through against River Bandits reliever Dante Biasi in the bottom of the sixth and it didn’t take long. 

Joe Gray Jr. drew a lead-off walk.  Thomas Dillard hit the next pitch to left for a two-run home run and a 2-0 lead.  The home run was the tenth of the year for Dillard and pushed his RBI total to 50 this season.

The Rattlers added two runs in the sixth inning. Je’Von Ward reached on a double and scored after an error on a grounder to short.  McClanahan made it 4-0 with an RBI single.

Adames went back out for the seventh and walked the lead-off batter before giving up a single to Jake Means.  That was all for Adames and the Harold Chirino entered the game from the Wisconsin bullpen.

Eric Cole was the first batter Chirino faced and a line drive back to the mound dropped in and out of Chirino’s glove.  The Rattler pitcher then dropped the ball as he tried to pick it up and his throw to first was late and that loaded the bases.  Jimmy Govern followed with a two-run single and the River Bandits were in business.

Both of the runs were charged to Adames, whose final line was six innings, two hits, two runs, three walks, and two strikeouts.  Adames was in line for his third win of the season if the bullpen could hold the lead.

A sacrifice bunt moved both runners on base into scoring position and a short infield single up the line at third re-loaded the bases.  Chirino got the second out on soft RBI grounder to third off the bat of Logan Porter.  Hayden Cantrelle kept the Rattlers in front with a stop in short right field on a hard grounder off the bat of Tucker Bradley and the throw to first was in time for the third out.

Chirino worked around a one-out double in the eighth inning and turned the 4-3 lead over to Taylor Floyd in the ninth.

Floyd slammed the door on the River Bandits with a 1-2-3 inning for his sixth save of the season.

The win gave the Rattlers a split in the six-game series with the team with the best record in the High-A Central League.  Quad Cities (38-20) missed on a chance to go twenty games over .500 for the first time this season with their loss at the hands of Wisconsin on Sunday.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They are back in action on Tuesday in Peoria, Illinois with game one of a six-game series at Dozer Park against the Peoria Chiefs.  Game time on Tuesday is 6:35pm.

The Milwaukee Brewers ran into a hot Cincinnati Reds team over the weekend, dropping its third straight against their NL Central rival by a 3-1 margin. 

The Reds got on the board first in the opening frame when Joey Votto drove in Jesse Winker only to be matched in the sixth inning by the Brewers with a RBI hit by Jackie Bradley, Jr. In the top of the ninth, Nick Castellanos caught up to a 97 m.p.h. fastball from Josh Hader to drive in two runs. The Brewers were retired in order to end the game.

The Brewers still enter the All-Star Break with an over four-game lead in the NL Central over the Reds.  

Omar Narvaez was added to the National League All-Star team over the weekend,  joining Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta, and Josh Hader to the roster in Colorado. Prospect Ethan Small already kicked off the All-Star Game festivities by participating in the MLB Futures game Sunday. Small gave up a pair of runs in two-thirds of an inning in an 8-3 win for the National League.

The Brewers also made two picks on the first day of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, selecting Boston College outfielder Sal Frelick with the 15th overall pick in the first round and second baseman Tyler Black of Wright State University with the 33rd overall pick. Frelick, 21, hit .359 with 6 HR and 27 RBI in 48 games as a junior at Boston College in 2021, earning All-ACC First Team and ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was named to the Baseball America All-America Third Team and was a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.

Black, 20, batted .383 with 13 HR and 59 RBI in 48 games during his sophomore season at Wright State in 2021. He was named All-Horizon League First Team and a Third-Team All-American by Perfect Game, ABCA/Rawlings and D1Baseball.com after leading the Raiders to the NCAA tournament.

Sawyer Johnson knocked in six runs and Sam Forkert took care of the rest in an 11-2 Sister Bay win over West Jacksonport Sunday.

Johnson did his damage with three hits and also provided a nice diving catch according to the Bays' Facebook page to help Forkert. The hurler threw seven shutout innings in the win. The victory keeps the Bays a full game ahead of Kolberg and Washington Island, who they will play next week.

For the first time in 17,230 days, the Milwaukee Bucks are winners in an NBA finals game. Down 2-0 against the Phoenix Suns in the series, the Bucks responded well to having their backs against the wall, and won their first home game of the finals, 120-100. Milwaukee was down three after the first quarter, but outscored Phoenix 35-17 in the second quarter and went into the halftime break up 60-45. Milwaukee went into the final quarter with a 22 point. 

Giannis Antetokounmpo went over forty points for the second game in a row, getting 41 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. Jrue Holiday scored 21 and Khris Middleton contributed 18. Milwaukee also answered defensively as no Suns players got over twenty points. The Bucks also held Devin Booker to just 10 points. 

With Phoenix up in the series, Milwaukee’s chance to tie will come on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 8:00 PM.

Unified Dirt Street Stock veteran Dave DeGrave notched his third feature win of the season, while Zach Spangenberg (Stock Cars), Jarred VanLaanen (Sport Mods) and Kyle Jorgenson ( 4 Cyl) won for the first time to highlight action Saturday night at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay. 

For the most part, the night was incident free, the exception being the Stock Car finale. 

On the very first lap, the “big one” hit exiting turn four as six cars stacked up with others swerving to avoid. Three of the top four drivers in the standings – leader Brett Wenzel, Billy LeMieux and Shawn Klapps, Jr were collected, along with Scott Reinhardt Dwayne Mertens and Tom Brumlic. 

It took several minutes to pry the cars of Wenzel, LeMieux and Klapps apart, but remarkably, all three were able to continue. 

Under green, Tony Bouche led early with Spangenberg getting by on lap three. 

He built up a comfortable lead as Dan Sell, Jr and Charlie Kroll dueled for second behind him.  Dave Bouche and John Anschutz raced along next. 

The late stages saw several twists of fate hit many of the frontrunners.  Anschutz was a victim of the second turn infield retaining tire that cost him a top five run.  With just two laps to go, Bouche and Brett Koehler had a run-in that ended the night for both, with the ensuing caution setting up a two lap sprint to the checker. 

Spangenberg was able to hold off both Sell and Kroll to the line, with Sell claiming runner-up honors.  Kroll crossed the line third, but officials ruled a sportsmanship disqualification post-race. 

The ruling advanced Wenzel to third and LeMieux to fourth, both rebounding from the first lap wreck with their damaged race cars.  LeMieux finished one spot ahead of son Caden, with Klapps also coming back from the lap one melee to place sixth. 

The Sport Mod headliner turned into a match race up front between VanLaanen and Cody Rass.   

VanLaanen shot to the inside of Sean Falk on a lap three restart.  He built what appeared to be a comfortable lead, but that began to change on lap seven when Rass shot the gap between Rick LeMieux and Falk, passing the two in one move to take over second. 

Rass quickly closed on VanLaanen, and five laps later, worked the inside line to take over the top spot. 

Rass began to pull away, but then lost his momentum as he was caught behind a car at the tail end of the lead lap.  That gave VanLaanen the opportunity to close back up, swing to the outside, and retake the lead. 

Rass was able to stay close the rest of the way, but couldn’t repeat the earlier move on VanLaanen. 

Craig Dorner, Randy LeMieux Jr, Rick LeMieux and Falk rounded out the top six. 

The run from Randy LeMieux was huge.  Having to start 19th on the grid after failing to finish his heat, the Sturgeon Bay veteran climbed to fourth, passing Jeff Vlies in the process.  Vlies came into the night as the point leader by one.  LeMieux’s effort allowed him to leap frog Vlies to take a two point lead in the division. 

While the Street Stocks managed to only get a single lap in the books before a quick yellow flew, the lap was packed with plenty of up front movement. 

Chad Naze was scored as the leader on the lap, advancing up from his third row starting spot.  Jason Geyer (4th row), DeGrave (5th row) and Shannon Guelette (6th row) were all in the lead pack after that single circuit as their inside line starting position proved to be the fast track to the front. 

Under green, DeGrave took over the lead on lap three, with the other staying close racing in a tight pack. 

Despite a late caution, DeGrave was able to retain the top spot to the line for the second week in a row, and third time this season.  Fighting back into contention after a week two DNF, he wasn’t able to make up much ground on Guelette who placed second and points leader Troy Muench who came on for third. 

Naze, Geyer and Dan VanPay completed the top six. 

Jorgenson used an outside move to pass Thomas Schulte on the 8th lap en route to his first win of the season in the 4 cylinder class.   

Schulte did close back but couldn’t quite get into position for a pass back attempt. 

Scott Schlafke was third, picking up a point on leader Tony Everard.  The 5-time 4 cylinder champ holds a slim three point edge on Schlafke going into the next race. 

The Hill’s next event is slated for Saturday night, July 24thwith a 6:00PM start time.  Joining the regular four divisions will be the Modifieds for their second appearance of the season. 

Also on the card, the Street Stocks will be the featured Busch Shootout class.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had no shortage of runs on Saturday but unfortunately for them neither did the Quad Cities River Bandits. The Rattlers fell to the Bandits 11-9. After three innings the T-Rats were down 5-1 before tying up the game in the fifth. Quad Cities got four runs the following inning and led the rest of the game. Hayden Cantrelle got a solo home run for the Timber Rattlers in the game. 

Wisconsin is now 27-31 this season and has their next game with Quad Cities on Sunday at 1:05 PM. The Rattlers are the host. 

The Green Bay Glory went into the halfway point of Saturday’s game with Milwaukee Bavarian Soccer Club down 1-0 and looking to roar back, but were unsuccessful in their attempt. The Glory couldn’t get a ball netted and fell 1-0. The loss moves the Glory record to 0-7-1 this season and Bavarian SC is 4-1-2 now. The teams face off again on July 14th with first touch scheduled for 6:00 PM. 

The Green Bay Voyageurs put up as tough an effort as you could ask for, trying to knock off a hot Chicago team on Saturday. Green Bay FC ultimately fell 2-1 and fell to 1-8-2 on the season. Green Bay gave up the first goal but tied the game up with a goal from Erich Legut at the 12’ mark. Chicago scored at the 66’ minute mark which ended up the difference maker. Green Bay also competed well given the circumstances, as the scheduled game was finalized just a day before the teams squared off. 

Nearly every player in the Green Bay Booyah starting lineup got a hit on Saturday but that still wouldn’t be enough in their 7-2 loss to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Booyah fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and knotted up the score immediately after in the next half inning. That would be all the runs the Booyah could muster as the Rafters scored a run in the third inning, another in the sixth and three more in the seventh. With the loss, Green Bay is 3-2 in the second half of the season. Their next game is on Sunday at the Rafters stadium again, with first pitch at 5:05 PM. 

The Milwaukee Brewers lost 4-3 to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday after a ninth-inning run lifted the Reds. The Brewers got the scoring started with a run in the bottom of the first inning on an Avisail Garcia RBI single that scored Luis Urias. In the sixth inning, the Reds took a 3-1 lead on a three-run homerun. 

Tyrone Taylor helped the Brewers tie the game back up in the eighth inning with a two-run shot that scored Urias again. The Reds scored the winning run in the ninth inning. The Brewers are now 53-38 and five games ahead of the Reds in the NL Central. The two teams meet again for the series finale and the last game before the MLB All-Star break on Sunday at 1:10 PM. 

The Milwaukee Bucks are having the biggest spotlight on them that they’ve had in forty-seven years, and will look to shine on Sunday and get their first finals game win since 1974. The Bucks are coming off two straight losses to the Phoenix Suns, despite a 42-point performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo in their most recent outing. The Bucks are down 2-0 in the series but get a finals game at home for the first time on Sunday. The next two games will be played at the Fiserv Forum. Milwaukee has yet to beat the Suns in the four times they’ve played each other. The Bucks will look to change that starting at 7:00 PM on Sunday. 

You can start making official arrangements to go watch hockey in Green Bay starting this fall. Though season tickets have been on sale and an exhibition match was already scheduled, the Green Bay Gamblers released their official schedule for the 2021-2022 season. The Gamblers will start the season against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at the Resch Center on October 2nd. The entire schedule can be found on the Gamblers website. 

The Green Bay Booyah announced that one of their players will represent the Booyah at the Northwoods League All-Star game on July 20th in Mankato. Max Wagner, the third baseman, got the call to take the hot corner in Minnesota. Wagner is coming off his freshman season at Clemson and is currently batting .298 with four home runs for the Booyah. Wagner is a graduate of Green Bay Preble High School

The Green Bay Booyah will be hoping that Friday’s shutout loss to Kenosha is just a small road bump and will look to regain momentum after the 2-0 defeat. Kenosha scored the game’s two runs in the fourth inning when Justin Janas hit a two-run home run. Both Kenosha and Green Bay are 3-1 in the second half of the season and split this series 1-1. Green Bay heads to Wisconsin Rapids to face the Rafters at 6:35 PM. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed the Quad Cities River Bandits 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The River Bandits pulled away from Wisconsin with five runs in the seventh, three runs in the eighth, and five more runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Timber Rattlers 17-5.

Quad Cities (37-19) took a 3-0 lead with a pair of two-out, extra-base hits in the top of the first inning. Michael Massey sent a deep fly to right-center with two outs and a runner at second. Right fielder Carlos Rodríguez made a diving attempt but the ball eluded him for an RBI triple. Jake Means was next and he hit the very next pitch just over the wall in left for a two-run homer and a 3-0 lead for the River Bandits.

The score went o 4-0 in the top of the second inning on a two-out, RBI single by Tucker Bradley.

Hayden Cantrelle put Wisconsin on the scoreboard with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the third.

The Rattlers (27-30) crept closer in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kekai Rios singled and Chad McClanahan doubled to start the inning. David Hamilton drove in Rios with a grounder to second.

That was as close as Wisconsin would get. Quad Cities pulled away with a five-run seventh inning to take a 9-2 lead and control of the game. Following the theme from the first two innings, four runs scored after there were two outs in the inning.

Quad Cities had runners at the corners with no outs and Massey sent a grounder that could have been a double play, but the Rattlers did not execute and only got the out at second as the runner from third scored to make it 5-2.

There were two on with two out when Jimmy Govern reached on an infield single and a throwing error let a run scored. Will Hancock was next and he singled to right and a miscommunication led to both runners scoring. Jeison Guzmán singled home the final run of the inning and it was 9-2.

The onslaught continued in the top of the eighth and Quad Cities loaded the bases with no outs. The next two batters were retired, but a wild pitch and a two-run double by Hancock pushed the lead out to 12-2.

Thomas Dillard gave the faithful something to cheer when he cracked a two-out, two-run home run to the Quad Cities bullpen in the bottom of the eighth inning. The home was his ninth of the season.

The River Bandits hitters went back to work in the top of the ninth and poured on the offense. The first two batters reached on a walk and a hit batsman. Massey drove in another run with a double. Means walked. Eric Cole doubled in a run and Govern singled in another run.

That led to Wisconsin calling on catcher Nick Kahle to take over on the mound. Kahle got the first out on a sacrifice fly by Hancock for the first out of the inning and Hancock’s fourth RBI of the night. Kahle go he final two outs on grounder.

Wisconsin managed one more run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an RBI grounder by Rios.

The River Bandits collected 20 hits and went 10-for-23 with runners in scoring position in the game. They scored ten of their runs after there were two outs in an inning.

The teams have split the first four games of the series.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Zach Mort (1-4, 6.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Quad Cities has named Charlie Neuweiler, who will be making his High-A Central League debut, as their starting pitcher for Saturday. Game time is 6:35pm.

The Milwaukee Brewers out-hit the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night but that wouldn’t make a difference in the final score as the Brewers couldn’t turn their hits into runs in the 2-0 loss. The Brewers had seven hits and the Reds had six. The Reds scored a run in the top of the fourth and seventh innings. Eric Lauer was given the loss on the mound, as he went six innings and gave up four hits and an earned run. Lauer also had three strikeouts. 

After the loss, Milwaukee is 53-37 this season and plays the Reds for game three of four in the final series before the All-Star break at 6:15 PM on Saturday. 

The Green Bay Glory hit the pitch on Saturday for the first time in thirteen days. Saturday is the first of two games against Milwaukee Bavarian Soccer Club in the next week. Bavarians SC will host on Sunday. Green Bay is looking to get in the win column, as their record is 0-6-1. Bavarians SC has a 3-1-2 record. First touch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Capital Credit Union Park. 

A change of plans is the reason that Green Bay Voyageurs FC will have a different opponent than originally scheduled on Saturday evening. The Voyageurs were originally set to play Kaw Valley FC at home, but they will now host Chicago FC United on Saturday instead. There is no official word on why the change happened on Green Bay’s end. Chicago’s team twitter account tweeted that they were supposed to play Wichita FC but that game was forfeited by Wichita, and Chicago gets an automatic 3-0 win. Saturday’s game in Green Bay will start at 7:00 PM. The Voyageurs come into the game with an overall record of 1-7-2 and will try to knock off 8-1-2 Chicago.

After three decades with University of Wisconsin Badgers athletics, former football coach and athletic director Barry Alvarez retired at the end of June and is getting well compensated on his way out. The Wisconsin State Journal reported that Alvarez was paid over $1.18 million in part because of 1,272 hours of unused vacation time. The unused time would put Alvarez on the 2022 payroll, leading to the up front payment. 

League-leading Washington Island and Institute will kick off the weekend slate of Door County League baseball games Friday night.

The Islanders are coming off a 11-1 win over Baileys Harbor last weekend while the Cubs toppled Egg Harbor 10-2. Friday's game begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Sunday afternoon games include Sister Bay hosting West Jacksonport, Baileys Harbor traveling to Egg Harbor, and Maplewood battling at Kolberg. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The Green Bay Booyah were hot at the plate in their first five innings on Thursday which is all they needed in their 13-5 win over the Kenosha Kingfish. The Booyah scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kenosha scored two runs of their own. The Booyah quickly answered and ran away with the game scoring five runs in the second inning. The Booyah put together 1,2, and 3 run innings the following three. 

The Booyah were aided by four home runs, as Ryan Brendan, Jake Berg, Kaden Hollow, and Nadir Lewis each smacked one. The Booyah are 3-0 in the second half of the season and 16-22 overall. Their next game is against Kenosha at 6:35 PM on Friday. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were able to stall out the last four innings of their 4-1 Thursday win over the Quad Cities River Bandits. Joe Gray Jr. ignited the scoreboard with a sac fly that brought home David Hamilton. Wisconsin gave up a solo home run in the top of the third inning which tied the game at 1 run. 

The T-Rats got the run they were looking for when LG Castillo hit a two-run double, bringing across Joe Gray Jr. and Je’Von Ward. Hayden Cantrelle scored the fourth run for Wisconsin in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder’s choice when Ward grounded out. 

With the win, Wisconsin is now 27-29 overall this season and will play Quad Cities on Friday at 7:05 PM.

The Milwaukee Brewers let the fifth inning get away from them on Thursday but not the entire game, as they beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-3. Milwaukee jumped out to an early lead with an RBI infield single from Avisail Garcia that scored Luis Urias in the bottom of the first inning. Jace Peterson later drew a walk which scored Willy Adames. The Reds scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning, two coming off of wild pitches. 

After the Reds took the lead, Keston Hiura erased it for them with a double that scored Omar Narvaez. Avisail Garcia had his second RBI and hit of the day and first home run of the night in the eight inning, as he brought in Narvaez for his second run of the night. The Brewers held onto the 5-3 lead until the end of the game. 

With the win, Milwaukee moves to 53-36 on the season and will play the Reds again on Friday on YouTube TV at 7:10 PM. 

The Milwaukee Bucks gave up an explosive second quarter to the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night which proved to be the difference in their game two loss. After being defeated 118-108, the Bucks trail 2-0 in the series. Milwaukee will hope for the same fortunes as their Eastern Conference semi-final, when they rallied from being down two games to beat the Brooklyn Nets. 

Milwaukee held a 29-26 lead after the first quarter, but then trailed 56-45 at halftime. Milwaukee would cut the lead to as low as 5 or 6 at times in the second half, but couldn’t come any closer. 

Though not enough to lead the Bucks to victory, Giannis Antetokounmpo had a big night with 42 points and 12 rebounds. Jrue Holiday had 17 points and Pat Connaughton pitched in 14. 

The Suns backcourt continues to be a problem for Milwaukee as Devin Booker had 31 points and seven 3-pointers. Mikal Bridges scored 27 and Chris Paul had 23.

The Bucks will look forward to getting the series back to Milwaukee, as game three begins in the Fiserv Forum on Sunday night at 7:00 PM. 

Not too often has a game been moved to being exclusively on YouTubeTV, but in the age of growing platforms the Brewers are the most recent example as of Thursday. It was announced that the Brewers Friday game with the Cincinnati Reds is being moved to YouTube TV, which requires a subscription to use. The game starts at 7:10 PM. With the broadcast is American Family Field is Stephen Nelson, Dan Plesac, Danny Graves, and Jon Morosi from American Family Field. Projected to pitch is Eric Lauer for Milwaukee and Wade Miley for the Reds. 

UW-Green Bay and St. Norbert College women’s golf combined to get ten of their golfers on the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team. UWGB got six to the list and SNC got four. The minimum gpa to accomplish to earn the honor is a 3.5 cumulative gpa. 

For UWGB, it was Katie Warpinski, Lori Meyer, Leah Hansen, Courtney Matschke, Ashley Kulka, and Isabelle Maleki who made the list. Kulka, Hansen, Matschke, Meyer, and Maleki have earned the honor three years running. 

For the Green Knights, it was Bree Borgen, Cameron Kaehler, Lucca Kenyon, and Ella O’Connell who were named to the All-American Scholar team. 

The Milwaukee Brewers got their fair share of excitement on Wednesday with a double dose in seven-inning games at Citi Park against the New York Mets. The Brewers got ahead of the Mets in game one with a Luis Urias home run in the top of the first inning. Jace Peterson made the score 2-1 with a solo shot in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the seventh the Mets scored a run to extend the game into extra innings. In extras, Jace Peterson would score when Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch. That would not seal the deal, as the Mets hit a walk-off single in the eighth inning. 

In game two, Milwaukee shut out New York and had their bats explode. Manny Pina initiated the scoring with a two-run blast to right-center field that also scored Jace Peterson who had three runs on the night altogether. In the top of the sixth inning, Willy Adames hit a solo homer. Luis Urias got his second home run overall of the night with a two-run shot in the top of the seventh. Wth the 1-1 split the Brewers are now 52-36 this season and play the Reds in Milwaukee on Thursday with a 7:10 PM start time. 

The Quad Cities River Bandits scored two unearned runs in the top of the second inning and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Timber Rattlers (26-29) jumped to a lead and inflated River Bandits starter AJ Block’s pitch count in the first inning. David Hamilton reached on an infield single to start the frame. Hayden Cantrelle was next and he drew a walk to end a thirteen-pitch sequence. Thomas Dillard drove in Hamilton with a single and the Rattlers were up 1-0. Block finished the first inning 33 pitches.

Quad Cities (36-18) took the lead – with a little help from the Wisconsin defense – in the top of the second inning. Eric Cole was at first with one out. John Rave hit a grounder to first and Dillard threw wildly to second for an error that allowed Cole to take third base. William Hancock was next and he hit a hard grounder to Cantrelle at second that was misplayed to let Cole score the tying run and send Rave around to third base. Tucker Bradley knocked in Rave with a sacrifice fly and the River Bandits were up 2-1.

Block settled down after the first inning and retired twelve batters in a row until walking Chad McClanahan with two outs in the fifth inning. Block got the final out of the fifth and turned the lead over to his bullpen in the bottom of the sixth. Block ended his night with 86 pitches.

Peyton Gray worked around a lead-off walk in the bottom of the sixth and went back out for the bottom of the seventh. LG Castillo reached on a one-out single in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to twelve games, but Gray got the next two batters on strikeouts to get the split in the twinbill of the River Bandits and the save for himself.

Victor Castañeda took the tough-luck loss. He allowed two hits, struck out six, and gave up two unearned runs over five innings as the Wisconsin starting pitcher.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Carlos Luna (1-0, 0.76) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The River Bandits have named Asa Lacy (2-4, 4.83) as their starter. Game time is 7:05pm.

Thursday night is Military Appreciation Night. Active duty and retired Military personnel receive a free reserved bleacher seat ticket with a Military ID or proof of service. The first 1,000 fans to attend this game will receive a military-themed Timber Rattlers baseball cap from Sure-Dry Basement Systems.

Timber Rattlers players and coaches will wear Military-themed jerseys during the game for the first of two times this season. These jerseys will be auctioned later this season.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers left fans with a warm feeling at the end of an unseasonably cool game as they rallied past the Quad Cities River Bandits for an 8-7, walkoff win in game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers trailed 7-4 heading into their final at bat of game one. They scored four times with the newest member of the team coming up with the hit that led to the tying and winning runs crossing the plate.

Quad Cities (35-18) took the lead in the top of the third inning. Tucker Bradley drove in the first run of the from with a double to left-center to score Jimmy Govern. A walk to Nick Loftin put two runners on base. Wisconsin starting pitcher Reese Olson retired the next batter on a popup and got ahead of Michael Massey with two quick strikes. The next pitch got too much of the plate and Massey hit a home run to right to give the River Bandits a 4-0 lead.

Hayden Cantrelle cut into that lead in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out, two-run double to score Carlos Rodríguez and David Hamilton. Both Rodríguez and Hamilton had walked to get on base in the inning.

Wisconsin (26-28) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Thomas Dillard started the inning with a double. Je’Von Ward grounded a hit up the middle with one out to score Dillard and he hustled into second to make it a double. A wild pitch let Ward take third base and the River Bandits decided to bring the infield in on the grass. LG Castillo cashed in the opportunity by chopping a single over the infield to send Ward home with the tying run.

The hit by Castillo extended his hitting streak to eleven games.

Olson gave up a single and a walk to the first two batters in the top of the fifth inning. He got the next two outs and the River Bandits had runners at the corners with two outs. Massey sent a hard grounder to short right and Cantrelle made a diving stop. However, he rushed his throw to first from his knees and the toss was off target to allow Massey to reach and the go-ahead run to score from third base.

The River Bandits added to their lead in the top of the sixth against reliever Nash Walters. A walk and a bunt single started the rally. Then, Govern dropped a sacrifice bunt and Walters looked to third before throwing wildly to first to allow a run to score. Logan Porter followed with a sacrifice fly and the River Bandits had a 7-4 lead.

The winning rally in the bottom of the seventh started with a lead-off walk to Rodríguez from reliever Will Klein. Nick Kahle followed with a double and Hayden Cantrelle drew a one-out walk to load the bases and end Klein’s day.

Garrett Davila took over on the mound and fell behind Korry Howell 3-1. Howell, nearly ended the game with one swing of the bat when he hit a line drive off the top of the wall in left for a two-run double to pull Wisconsin to within a run. The River Bandits elected to walk Dillard intentionally to load the bases and that brought Joe Gray Jr. to the plate.

Gray, who was making his Timber Rattlers debut in this game after being promoted from Carolina, sent a grounder deep in the hole at short for a game-tying single. Loftin tried to get the force play on second on Dillard, but threw wildly and that allowed Howell to score the winning run.

The win was the third straight for the Timber Rattlers.

The Green Bay Booyah waited until the seventh inning on Wednesday to get their offensive attack going but it was worthwhile in their 4-3 comeback win over the Lakeshore Chinooks in Mequon. The Booyah gave up one run in the third and fourth innings. The Booyah scored three in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead. The Booyah extended their lead by another run in the top of the ninth. The Chinooks scored one run out of the two they needed to comeback in the last half inning. With the win, the Booyah sweep the series against Lakeshore and have won five games in a row overall. In Thursday’s game, Jake Berg went 3-4 with three singles. Green Bay is 2-0 in the second half of the season and will face the Kenosha Kingfish at home at 6:35 PM.

Milwaukee will take center court for game two of the NBA finals on Thursday in Phoenix trying to avoid falling in a two-game hole. The Bucks have lost the first game in their last three series, including being behind Brooklyn 2-0 in the conference semifinals. The Bucks will try to better contain the Suns top three scorers from game one, as Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton combined for 81 points. In game one of the finals, Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo each had 20+ points. The Bucks have yet to win a game over the Suns this season, and Thursday will be the fourth time the teams square off. Tip-off in Phoenix is at 8:00 PM CST on Thursday.

It was deja vu all over again for former Green Bay Gamblers head coach Jon Cooper and host of others formerly involved with the organization.

The Tampa Bay Lightning won their second straight Stanley Cup on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Cooper and assistant coach Derek Lalonde both took turns leading the Green Bay Gamblers and both won championships for the organization. John Burkhart (scout) and Brian Garlock (video coach) are also on the Lightning staff.

Former Wisconsin Badger Ryan McDonagh will also see his name etched on the Stanley Cup, picking up three points in the five-game series for the Lightning. One of those points was the assist on the eventual game-winning goal in the cup-clinching fifth game. Another former Badger, Cole Caulfield, came up on the losing end of the series as a member of the Canadiens. Joining the team after the Badgers bowed out in the NCAA Tournament, Caulfield also registered three points in the series with a trio of assists.

Area runners will have their choice of races this weekend in Door and Kewaunee counties.

In Luxemburg, the Kewaunee County Fairest of the Fair program will be hosting its Crown and Sash Dash after taking the year off in 2020 due to the pandemic. Runners are encouraged but not required to wear their formal wear on the course the begins and ends at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds while also traveling on the Ahnapee Trail and through downtown Luxemburg.  The race begins at 8:30 a.m.

In Brussels, the Belgian Days Run/Walk will feature three different races beginning at 8 a.m. Organized by and benefiting the Brussels-Union EMRs, the event kicking off the 60th Belgian Days features a four-mile and two-mile race before giving way to a number of kids' races.  The route highlights Brussels locations such as the town park and St. Mary and St. Francis Church.

Both races will accept same-day registrations.

In just one of the handful of Northwoods Leagues games that didn’t get postponed, the Green Bay Booyah got their third straight win, beating the Lakeshore Chinooks 8-0. Mykel Page pitched eight innings for Green Bay, and allowed just two hits and sat down three batters on strikes. Dalton Pearson and Ryan Brendan combined for nine of the Booyah’s sixteen hits. Pearson got the team’s two-bagger, and went a perfect 5-5 hitting the ball. Brendan had four singles in the contest, going 4-5 at the plate. With the win the Booyah improve to 1-0 in the new half of the season and are 14-22 overall. Their next game begins at 6:35 PM on the road against the Lakeshore Chinooks. 

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers participated in Capital One’s The Match on Tuesday, as he and Bryson DeChambeau took down Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson With live cameras and microphones on the participants many tuned in to see if there would be anything to give insight into the Aaron Rodgers potential training camp holdout. There wasn’t much to shake from the Aaron Rodgers speculation tree during the match. Attempts by commentators to pry for information were met with replies that didn’t provide much evidence for what the conclusion to the situation will be. Rodgers replied with “we’ll see,” when asked if he’ll be under center for the Packers against the Bears in October and the season opener against the Saints in September. 

With banter ongoing through the eighteen holes, they did golf as well. Dechambeau and Rodgers finished 3 and 2 over Mickelson and Brady. The match was played at The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, a golf course in Big Sky, Montana. According to the Green Bay Packers official website, the competition helped raise 6.3 million meals for Feeding America and $2.6 million for My Brother's Keeper, an initiative aimed to address opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color.

Torrential downfall at Citi Field in New York City called off Tuesday’s Milwaukee Brewers game against the New York Mets. The game, along with Wednesday’s game, will be consolidated into a doubleheader. Wednesday’s game times are scheduled for 2:10 PM and 7:10 PM. Milwaukee comes into the game with a 51-35 record and a two-game losing streak, but still leading the NL Central by six games. The New York Mets are also first in their division, with a 44-37 record. 

The Milwaukee Bucks took part in their first NBA finals game in 47 years on Tuesday out west to face the Phoenix Suns. Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo gutted out a knee injury in game one after being out the previous two games with a knee hyperextension, but it wouldn’t be enough in the 118-105 loss. 

The teams exchanged jabs in the first quarter but it would be the Suns’ Devin Booker stealing the show, scoring 16 points and getting 4 assists in the opening frame. The first quarter ended with the Suns up 30-26 over the Bucks. The Suns were up eight at halftime 57-49 and threatening to give Milwaukee their third straight series-opening loss. 

Phoenix picked their momentum back up at the beginning of the second half with a fast start. In the third quarter, the Bucks fell behind by twenty points at one point, and ended the quarter down 16. Milwaukee’s comeback efforts in the fourth quarter were unsuccessful as they would fall by 13 points. 

Khris Middleton led the way for Bucks scorers with 29 points. Antetokounmpo shot 7 for 12 at the free throw line in a 20-point effort along with 17 rebounds. Brook Lopez had a 17-point night. For the Suns, Booker ended the night with 27. Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton also proved too much for the Bucks as Paul scored 32 and Ayton scored 22 in the game one victory. 

The Bucks trail the Suns 1-0 in the series but get another shot on Thursday in Phoenix. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM. 

The Green Bay Gamblers will be skating for the youth on Saturday, September 18th. The Gamblers will head to Marinette that day for an exhibition game with the Madison Capitals in the Marinette Community Rec Center. The proceeds for the game go to the Marinette & Menominee Area Youth Hockey Association. The game is two weeks before Green Bay’s home opener on October 2nd. Tickets for the game which include complimentary beer can be purchased through this link. 

You can look forward to catching a glimpse of the green and gold in the pre-season this summer, and can even circle dates now that they’re official. The Green Bay Packers released their 2021 Training Camp Schedule, which will be their 76th official training camp. The Packers official website states that practices will take place at Ray Nitschke Field and Family Night will be at Lambeau Field. The Packers open with a “Back to Football” theme on July 28th. They’ll have four straight days of practice until July 31st, before getting a day off.

The Packers return for the second week with three open practices on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th of August. Family night will be on August 7th. There will be another run on open practices from August 10th to August 12th, prior to hosting the Houston Texans for the pre-season opener. Green Bay will have two joint practices open to the public with the New York Jets, and face the Jets on August 21st. 

Green Bay will have their third and final preseason game on August 28th. If weather moves the team to its indoor practice field in the Don Hutson Center, those practices will be closed off to the public due to spacing concerns. The Packers will not use their long-time arrangements with St. Norbert College this summer because of COVID19 protocols that were put in place by the NFL that makes clubs maximize their own facilities. According to the Packers website, certain elements of the traditional Training Camp experience are still being determined. 

University of Wisconsin Green Bay named Josh Moon their tenth Athletic Director in school history on Tuesday. Moon has been in athletics administration for over 18 years and has spent the last nine as Athletic Director at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. UWGB Chancellor Michael Alexander said of the move in a press release that the UW-Green Bay athletic department has tremendous potential to expand and deepen its connection to the region and that Moon is the person to help get them there. Moon will take over Phoenix athletics on August 1st. 

While at Northern State, Moon oversaw a department that sponsored 15 athletic programs with approximately 400 student-athletes. In Moon’s tenure, Wolves athletics found particular success in men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball. The men’s basketball program won four NSIC Conference titles and were the national runner-up in 2018. Women’s basketball earned five straight trips to the NCAA tournament and volleyball has won back-to-back NSIC titles. Moon said in the press release he’s excited to return to his home state of Wisconsin and to engage with the Green Bay and Fox Valley regions. Moon attended UW-La Crosse and is from Wautoma, Wisconsin. 

On Tuesday INDYCAR and Road America near Elkhart Lake inked a multiyear extension that will make sure the NTT INDYCAR SERIES continues coming to the four-mile track. The series has raced at Road America since 1982 with a brief break before coming back in 2016. Last weekend marked the sixth consecutive year of the NTT series at the track. President and CEO of Penske Entertainment Corp. stated in a press release that Road America was a central figure in the series’ return to racing during the pandemic. 

Road America President and General Manager Mike Kertscher added to the excitement saying, “The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is clearly one of the greatest forms of open-wheel acing ever to grace our beautiful 4-mile road course.” The most INDYCAR winner at the track is Alex Palou.

After their double-digit win streak was snapped, the Brewers are now looking to avoid starting a streak in the opposite direction. The Brewers are on the losing end in back to back nights after Monday’s 4-2 loss in New York to the Mets. In the loss, Milwaukee got on board first with an Omar Narvaez home run in the top of the fourth inning. The Mets scored a run of their own the following half. The seventh-inning stretch boded well for the Mets, who went for three runs in the bottom half of that inning. Tyrone Taylor brought in Willy Adames in the ninth, but the comeback attempt fell short. The Brewers have a 51-35 record this season, and get another crack at the Mets on Tuesday at 6:10 PM. 

Garrett Mitchell wrapped up the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers portion of his professional baseball career with a great week in Beloit, Wisconsin, an award from Minor League Baseball, and a plane ticket to Biloxi, Mississippi.

Mitchell, the #1 pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2020 draft, was named the High-A Central League’s player of the week on Monday for his performance in the Timber Rattlers series against the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field last week.

He went 12-for-28 (.480) in the six-game series with the Snappers.  Mitchell reached base in seven straight plate appearances over the games on Friday and Saturday night.  He finished the set at Beloit with a two-homer, six-RBI day on July 4.  One of the home runs was a grand slam.  Mitchell had an OPS of 1.416 and scored twelve runs in the series.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced after Sunday’s game that Mitchell, the #1 prospect in their minor league system, had been promoted to the Biloxi Shuckers, their affiliate in the Double-A South League.

Mitchell appeared in 28 games with Wisconsin and hit .359 with an OPS of 1.124.  He hit five homers, drove in 20 runs, and stole twelve bases while scoring 33 runs.

This is the second time a Timber Rattler has won a weekly award in the High-A Central League.  Victor Castañeda was the Pitcher of the Week in the league earlier this season.

A handful of football players from Door and Kewaunee counties are preparing for next week's Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Games by raising money for a great cause.

So far, members of the six All-Star teams have raised over $238,000 for the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Each player has to raise a minimum amount of money as a participant.

The WFCA Eight-Man All-Star Game featuring Beyer, Evenson, and Steebs is July 16th at 6 p.m. while the WFCA Large School All-Star Game featuring Yagodinski is July 17th at 6 p.m. 

At the beginning of the month Chris McIntosh became the University of Wisconsin Badgers Athletic Director, and this week is his first full week for the new leader of the Badgers. McIntosh is replacing Barry Alvarez who held the role for eighteen years after being the football team’s head coach for fifteen. McIntosh was a football player under Alvarez, and years after his professional career took a role with the university in 2014. Though McIntosh has been handed the keys to Badgers athletics, his predecessor will be celebrated in October with “Barry Alvarez Day” on October 2nd, when Wisconsin football hosts Michigan. 

With many sports fans' ears glued to the floor this offseason waiting for any news on the Aaron Rodgers holdout saga, they’ll get their chance to watch a live, on-camera close-up on Tuesday. The last time Aaron Rodgers was put up against a Tom Brady team, it ended in a heartbreaking loss, and on Tuesday Rodgers gets a chance at vengeance, but on the golf course. In Capital One’s The Match, it will be Aaron Rodgers and Bryson DeChambeau teeing off against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in Big Sky, Montana. The match will be on national television, aired on TNT at 4:00 PM. In a conference call to promote the match, Rodgers was mum on the subject of his future with the Packers organization. Rodgers did however note that this off-season he has prioritized making sure his mental health is in optimal condition. 

A long awaited matchup will meet the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday when they play the Phoenix Suns in game one of the NBA finals on the road. The Milwaukee Bucks haven’t been back to the finals since 1974 when they fell to the Celtics in seven games. The last time they won the finals was just a few years earlier in 1971 against the Washington Bullets. 

This year's finals series does not feature a number one seed as the Phoenix Suns were a two seed, and Milwaukee is a three seed. If the finals series is anything like the teams two regular season matchups, you may be in for a thrilling championship round. The first game was a 125-124 Suns win and the second game was also a one-point victory for the Suns, 128-127. Game one begins in Phoenix at 8:00 PM. Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as doubtful for game one with a left knee hyperextension.

The Green Bay Booyah scored single runs in consecutive innings en route to a 6-2 win over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Sunday.

The scoring started in the second inning when the Booyah took advantage of an error and drove in Johnny Hipsman on a double by Tyler Hollow. Jake Berg drove in a run in the third inning and Preston Hall homered in the fourth to make it 3-0 after four. The Booyah tacked on two more in the sixth inning on consecutive RBI singles by  Hollow and Nick Dagnello. The Booyah would give up a run in the seventh and trade runs with the Rafters in the ninth when their RBI single by Dayson Croes was answered in the bottom half of the inning. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers made their final appearance at Pohlman Field a memorable one.  Garrett Mitchell had four hits, including two homers, scored four runs, and drove in six runs to send the Timber Rattlers to a 16-6 win over the Beloit Snappers.  Mitchell was far from the only offensive contributor as the Rattlers cranked eighteen hits in the game.

Wisconsin (25-28) jumped on Beloit starting pitcher Zach McCambley with four runs in the first inning.  David Hamilton doubled on the first pitch of the game.  Korry Howell followed with a double to left to score Hamilton.  Mitchell was next and he cranked a home run to center for a 3-0 lead.  Hayden Cantrelle capped the scoring in the inning with a solo home run to right for a 4-0 lead.

The Rattlers added to their lead with an eight-run third inning.  Mitchell started the festivities with a single.  Thomas Dillard followed with a hot shot to first that eluded the first baseman for an error.  Then, the ball was bobbled in right for another error to let Mitchell score and Dillard to take third.  Cantrelle was next and he hit a home run to left-center.  The Rattlers were up 7-0 and they weren’t done.

Je’Von Ward doubled and Carlos Rodríguez drew a walk to end the game for McCambley.  Jake Walters entered the game from the Beloit bullpen and got the next two outs, but Hamilton extended the inning with an RBI single and a walk to Howell loaded the bases,

That brought Mitchell back to the plate for the second time in the inning.  He got all of a 2-1 pitch from Walters and the ball sailed far over the wall in center for a grand slam to push Wisconsin out to a 12-0 lead.

Beloit (26-28) got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double by Tevin Mitchell.  They added three more runs to their total in the fourth inning.  David Martinez had a sacrifice fly, Mitchell added a sacrifice fly, and Ynmanol Marinez knocked in a run with a grounder.

Hamilton made it a luck thirteen runs for the Timber Rattlers with an RBI single to score Chad McClanahan in the top of the fifth inning.

The Snappers scored again in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Bubba Hollins.

Wisconsin scored three more times on three more hits in the top of the ninth inning to set new season highs in both categories.  McClanahan reached on an error and would score later in the inning on a fielder’s choice by Howell.  Mitchell kept the inning going with an infield single, his fourth hit of the game.  A walk to Dillard loaded the bases.  Cantrelle made it a sweet sixteen on the scoreboard with a two-run single.

Beloit got a run in the bottom of the ninth, but there was no more in them on this day.

Hamilton went 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Cantrelle had two homers, three hits, and five RBI.  Je’Von Ward had three hits.  LG Castillo had a double to extend his current hitting streak to ten games.

The Rattlers set new season highs for runs (16), hits (18), doubles (6), and homers (4) in a single game this season with their performance on Sunday.

The reason this was Wisconsin’s final appearance at Pohlman Field is that the Snappers are moving into ABC Supply Stadium in August.  Wisconsin’s next trip to Beloit against the Snappers starts on August 3, which coincides with the opening of the new ballpark.
 

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They will be back in action on Tuesday when they return home to host the Quad Cities River Bandits in the first game of a six-game series.  Victor Castañeda (1-2, 4.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Zach Haake (4-1, 3.83) has been announced as the starting pitcher for the River Bandits.  Game time is 7:05pm.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Beloit Snappers sent the crowd at Pohlman Field into Independence Day with several bangs on Saturday night. Both teams hit three home runs in a single inning, but the Timber Rattlers had one more big inning in them and it was enough for a 12-9 victory.

Garrett Mitchell and Thomas Dillard teamed up to put the Rattlers (24-28) up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Mitchell stepped to the plate with two outs and sent a grounder up the middle. He did not settle for a single and successfully stretched the hit into a double. Dillard was next and he ripped a 3-2 pitch down the line in right. The ball one-hopped the wall and Mitchell scored easily on the double by Dillard.

Wisconsin added to their lead in the top of the fourth and Mitchell started the rally again. He singled to lead off the inning. One out later Hayden Cantrelle walked. The runners will still at first and second with two outs. Then, Carlos Rodríguez and Nick Kahle delivered consecutive RBI singles and it was 3-0 Wisconsin.

The Rattlers poured on the offense in the fifth inning with three homers accounting for five runs to make it 8-0. David Hamilton cracked a lead-off homer to right-center. Mitchell drew a walk with one out and Dillard followed with a long home run to right-center. Hayden Cantrelle restarted the rally when he drew a walk. LG Castillo continued his hot hitting with a line drive home run down the line in right.

Hamilton’s homer was his fifth of the season. Dillard’s was his eighth of the year. Castillo’s was his third of the season and all three of his home runs have come in the series at Beloit as he has extended his hitting streak to nine games.

The Snappers (26-27) got to Wisconsin starting pitcher Justin Bullock with a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning. Griffin Conine drove in the first run with a two-out single. Will Banfield followed with a two-run double to left. Bullock got the final out on his seventh strikeout of the game.

The Timber Rattlers batters went back to work in the top of the seventh. Mitchell started the rally – again – with a lead-off single. At this point he had reached base in seven straight plate appearances. Mitchell had reached in his final three plate appearances on Friday night with two walks and a triple. He continued that trend on Saturday night by reaching in his first four plate appearances. Dillard followed with a single. Castillo drove a double to the gap in right-center to score Mitchell. A walk to Rodríguez loaded the bases and a double by Kahle unloaded the bases to put the Rattlers up 12-3. Those extra runs would come in handy later in the game. Brady Schanuel worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and turned the 12-3 lead over to John LaRossa in the bottom of the ninth.

Thomas Jones started the ninth with a double, moved to third on a flyout to right, and scored on a grounder off the bat of Marcos Rivera. The Rattlers were still up 12-4 with two outs and nobody on base. LaRossa walked number nine batter Ricky Aracena and things got very interesting before the end.

Connor Scott hit a two-run home run. Kameron Misner followed with a solo homer. Troy Johnston doubled. Conine, the league leader in homers, hit a home run to left-center and all of a sudden the Rattlers lead was down to 12-9. The home run was the 17th of the season for Conine and his fourth in five games against Wisconsin. Nash Walters came into the game from the Wisconsin bullpen and struck out Banfield to end the game and pick up his second save.

That last home run by Conine pushed him just ahead of Dillard in the High-A Central League RBI race. Both hitters had three RBI in the game and Conine is the league leader with 46 while Dillard is next with 45.

The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field. Sunday is also the final time the Timber Rattlers play the Snappers at Pohlman Field. When Wisconsin returns to Beloit to face the Snappers on August 3, the Snappers will host their first game at new ABC Supply Stadium. Freisis Adames (2-1, 6.21) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin on July 4. Zach McCambley (2-3, 2.95) has been named as the starting pitcher for the Snappers. Game time on Independence Day afternoon is 2:05pm. The radio broadcast is on AM 1280 WNAM starting with the pregame show at 1:45pm.

In the MT5 series where Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy fields questions from fans, he took the time to address a few about how training camp will be handled and the switch to mobile-only ticketing that has been a dilemma for some. Murphy confirmed reports of joint practices being held with the New York Jets in mid-August and also touched on the shareholders meeting set for July 26th being a big off-season night for many fans. 

Mark Murphy stated in his letter that training camp will look mostly normal this year, but there still may be some kinks. Murphy brought up one of the traditions people hold dear. Packers riding kids bicycles to training camp practices. Though he didn’t give a final answer, he did say current NFL protocols require players not to be within twenty feet of fans. It’s only fitting that on Sunday the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Wisconsin’s Road America racetrack near Elkhart Lake on Sunday for the fourth of July. It’s the first time that NASCAR has been at the track in 65 years, and thousands were in attendance for Saturday’s practice laps. Also on Saturday was a NASCAR XFinity Cup race that was won by Kyle Busch. The headliner, Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race, begins on Sunday at 1:30 PM.

For the first time in almost a half-century, the Milwaukee Bucks will be in the NBA Championship series. After beating the Atlanta Hawks 118-107 in game six of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, Milwaukee will face the Phoenix Suns in the NBA title series. The last time the Bucks were in the finals was 1974, and they lost to Boston in seven games. For the Suns, it’s their first trip to the finals series since the 1992-1993 season. 

The Bucks were able to accomplish the feat without having to rush superstar Giannis Anteotkounmpo back from his knee injury before the series was over. Though there’s no set timetable for his return, there is still hope that he will get to suit up for at least some finals action. The Bucks also avoided a late scare, as their twenty-point second half lead diminished to just six at one point. 

In Antetokounmpo’s absence, Milwaukee was led by Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton. Holiday wasn’t far from a triple double, going for 27 points, 9 assists and 9 rebounds. Khris Middleton put 32 points through the basket. Milwaukee plays Phoenix on Tuesday on the road with tip-off beginning at 8:00 PM.

The losing skid continued for the Green Bay Booyah when they fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks 13-3. The gates flew open in the seventh when the Chinooks got five runs to go up 12-3. The loss marks six straight for Green Bay, who is now 10-22 overall. The Booyah play the Chinooks again on Saturday at home starting at 3:05 PM. 

The Milwaukee Brewers have beat the Pirates by a final score of 7-2 on two consecutive nights, and also secured their tenth straight win on Friday. The Brewers got a solo home run in the first two innings by Willy Adames, Jace Peterson, and Jackie Bradley Jr. The Brewers look to play the third of their holiday weekend four-game series on Saturday. Friday was Milwaukee's 50th win, as they're 50-33 and are two games from getting their third straight series sweep. First pitch for Saturday's game is at 3:05 PM. 

With Giannis Antetokounmpo likely out for game six of the Eastern Conference Finals, Milwaukee will look to get an early jump again. The Bucks have a 3-2 series lead as the series heads back to Atlanta. If the Bucks do win on Saturday it will be their first time in the finals since 1974. Tip-off for Saturday's game is at 7:30 PM.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Beloit Snappers went down to the final out for the third night in a row at Pohlman Field on Friday night. Wisconsin trailed 5-1 heading into the eighth inning and scored three runs over the final two innings to cut the deficit to a single run. The Rattlers couldn’t manage to scratch out the tying run and wound up on the short end of a 5-4 score.

Beloit (26-26) took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Connor Scott singled to start the inning, stole second, and went to third on a flyout to center. Troy Johnston drove in Scott with a ground out and the Snappers were up 1-0.

Wisconsin (23-28) didn’t get their first base runner against Snappers starting pitcher Zach King until there were two outs in the top of the fourth. Garrett Mitchell drew a walk, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error. King walked Thomas Dillard to put runners on the corners, but got a ground out to end the inning.

Carlos Luna, the starting pitcher for Wisconsin, didn’t allow much of anything after the first inning. He worked around a one-out double in the fifth inning with two straight strikeouts and retired eleven of the last twelve batters he faced. Luna allowed one run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts over his six innings of work on Friday.

The duo of Mitchell and Dillard tied the game in the top of the sixth with a two-out rally. Mitchell cracked a triple to left-center with two outs. Dillard followed with a line single to right to score Mitchell and the score was 1-1. That was Wisconsin’s only run off King. The lefty, who entered the game with a 1-6 record and a 6.80 ERA, allowed one run on four hits and struck out eight.

The Snappers went back in front in the bottom of the seventh inning with four runs and that put King in line for the win. Reliever Zach Mort walked Griffin Conine to start the inning and a passed ball allowed Conine to take second. Thomas Jones broke the tie with a double to center to drive in Conine. Then, Bubba Hollins reached on a fielder’s choice that put runners on the corners. There was a grounder to short and Jones was trying to advance to third. The throw to third was a little off line and Jones was safe to set up Marcos Rivera.

Rivera cleared the bases with a three-run home run and the Snappers had a 5-1 lead.

Mitchell stepped to the plate with two outs and none on base in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Jackson Rose and he drew another walk. Dillard was next and he launched a long homer to right and the Rattlers were within two runs. The home run was the seventh of the season for Dillard. His three RBI on the night gives him 42 on the season.

LG Castillo, who had extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games earlier in the night with a single, started the Wisconsin ninth inning with a towering home run to center. The homer was his second of the season and got the Rattlers to within a run. However, Rose retired the next three batters to close out the game and send the Rattlers to their third straight one-run loss at the hands of their in-state rivals.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Pohlman Field. Justin Bullock (3-1, 3.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Antonio Velez (2-0, 3.41) is set to start for the Snappers. Game time is 6:35pm. The radio broadcast is on AM 1280 WNAM starting with the pregame show at 6:15pm. 

Though Matt Lafleur’s good friend and on-field rival Robert Saleh moved to the AFC this season to be a head coach, they’ll still find a way to compete in practice next month. The New York Post reported on Friday that the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets will joint practice in Green Bay on August 18th and 19th. The practices will prelude the August 21st pre-season matchup between the two teams at Lambeau Field. 

It will be just the second time Green Bay has participated in such practices in 16 years. In 2019, the Packers did the same routine with the Houston Texans. The Packers were set to host Cleveland for joint practices and a game last year for training camp but those were never held amidst joint practices being canceled. Previous to 2019, the Packers last did a joint training camp practice when they hosted the Bills in 2005, prior to Mike Sherman’s last season as the Packers head coach.

The Green Bay Voyageurs were primed to go for their second straight win, but travel complications called Friday’s game against Wichita FC off. That wouldn’t stop Green Bay from competing, however. The Voyageurs split into two teams, one being “Other Team” and the other being “Green Machine.” Other Team won 3-0 thanks to a big night from the Markanich’s. Adam Markanich scored two minutes in, and Nick Markanich scored at the 39’ and 63’ marks. Their last regular-season game is at home on July 10th against Kaw Valley FC. On June 24th, Kaw Valley FC won 3-1 in their previous matchup.

It didn’t take Justin Bullock to make an impression in the High-A Central League.  Bullock joined the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on June 8 and was named the High-A Central League’s Pitcher of the Month for June by Minor League Baseball earlier today.

Bullock made four starts last month and went 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA while walking one batter and striking out 23 over 24 innings pitched.  His first start with the Timber Rattlers in June was on June 10 when he struck out ten over five scoreless, hitless innings at South Bend when he combined with Carlos Luna on a no-hitter of the South Bend Cubs.  His last start of the month was a seven-inning complete game against the Peoria Chiefs in game one of a doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on June 27.

Timber Rattlers outfielder Korry Howell was the Player of the Month for the High-A Central League in May.

Bullock, Howell, and all of the Timber Rattlers return home from their current road trip to host the Quad Cities River Bandits for a six-game homestand on Tuesday, July 6. 

The Green Bay Voyageurs will face a familiar opponent on the pitch on Friday: themselves.

According to the organization,  FC Wichita is experiencing travel complications and cannot make the game. The Voyageurs will instead play an Intrasquad match at the previously scheduled time of 7 pm and Capital Credit Union Park. 

July 4th's game was also canceled, making July 10th their last home game of the season.

The St. Norbert College Green Knights were officially welcomed into the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference on Thursday after being a Midwest Conference member for thirty-eight years. Their new home, the NACC, consists of thirteen schools in Wisconsin and Illinois. Member institutions in Wisconsin are Alverno College, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Wisconsin Lutheran College, Concordia University in Mequon, Edgewood College, Lakeland University, and Marian University. Schools from Illinois are Concordia University Chicago, Dominican University, Aurora University, Benedictine University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Rockford University. The Green Knights already had affiliation with the NACC in three of their thirteen sports. Those sports are men’s volleyball and men’s and women’s golf. 

Per the SNC athletics official website, dating back to 1983 when the Green Knights became a Midwest Conference school full-time, they amassed 125 Midwest Conference titles in fourteen different sports. They also made it to sixty-nine NCAA Division III tournaments. Athletics Director Cam Fuller said in a statement, “The NACC offers a condensed geographic footprint that allows our student-athletes a more integrated college experience.” The Green Knights are the fourteenth member of their new conference.

You may soon be able to legally wager on sporting events in the state of Wisconsin after an announcement made at Oneida Casino in Green Bay on Thursday.

Gov. Tony Evers and Oneida Nation Chairman Tehassi Hill signed the updated gaming compact that would allow visitors to the casino to bet on certain sporting events and award shows. The hope is that following a 45-day review by the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs that the Oneida Nation would be able to open a sports book at its main casino before the beginning of the NFL season. 

Under the terms of the deals, bettors will not be allowed to bet on Wisconsin-based collegiate teams, election outcomes, or events with participants under the age of 19. Surrounding states including Illinois and Michigan have event wagering procedures in place.

Green Bay Voyageurs FC will look to build off of their first win against the same team they got that victory against. The Voyageurs take on FC Wichita, who they beat on the road 1-0 on June 25th. A week later, the Voyageurs host the matchup. Coming into Friday, Green Bay is 1-7-2 on the season. First touch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 7:00 PM. It will be the Voyageurs’ first home battle since June 4th. 

A Tristin Garcia three-run homerun would be the only scoring the Green Bay Booyah could get in their fifth straight loss on Thursday. The Booyah fell to the Madison Mallards, 5-3. The Booyah were behind 3-0 after the Mallards scored a trio of runs in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth is when Garcia tied the game back up. The final scoring of the game took place in the top of the fifth inning when Madison put up the deciding two runs. Each team ended the game with six hits. 

With the loss the Booyah are now 10-21 this season and are at the bottom of the Northern League’s Great Lake West Division. Their next game is on Friday when Green Bay takes the road to play the Lakeshore Chinooks beginning at 6:35 PM. 

The Wisconsin Timber-Rattlers gave up a comeback win to the Beloit Snappers in eleven innings on Thursday. The Timber-Rattlers lost 5-4, but led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Beloit scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth and down 4-2, Wisconsin got two RBI-singles to send the game to extra innings. Beloit scored a walk-off single in the bottom of the eleventh inning. For the Timber-Rattlers, Korry Howell hit a walk-off home run in the first inning. 

The Rattlers are 23-27 this season. Their next game is at Friday in Beloit at 6:35 PM.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates for their ninth straight win on Thursday, by a final score of 7-2. The Brewers drew first blood when Jace Peterson hit a three-bagger in the top of the second inning that scored Tyrone Taylor. Peterson was brought around on a Jackie Bradley Jr double. Pittsburgh came within a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Milwaukee’s lead to 2-1, which is as close as they got the rest of the way.

In the sixth inning, Taylor and Peterson scored their second runs of the game in the sixth inning. Keston Hiura hit an RBI line drive single that scored Taylor and Daniel Robertson’s RBI sac fly brought Peterson across the plate. After heading into the ninth with a 4-1 lead, Milwaukee put the game out of reach with three runs. In the explosive inning, Omar Narvaez doubled and brought around Robertson for his first run of the day. Also in the ninth, Taylor hit a two-RBI single that scored Christian Yelich and Narvaez. 

Pittsburgh’s ninth-inning comeback attempt scored just a run in the bottom of the ninth. The win moves Milwaukee’s record to 49-33 and they are now 6.5 ahead of the Cubs for first place in the NL Central division. Milwaukee plays in Pittsburgh on Friday for game two of the four-game series with the first pitch being thrown at 6:05 PM. 

Down their superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a knee hyperextension, the Milwaukee Bucks still delivered in game five of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday. The Bucks are closing in on an NBA Finals berth, up in the series 3-2 after the 123-112 win. With Trae Young out for Atlanta, both teams had to strategize without their top performer. 

The Bucks started strong and went up as much as 18 points in the first quarter. Milwaukee was up 65-56 at the end of the first half. Milwaukee was ahead by a double-digit margin for much of the third quarter, and was up 13 at the end of it. The Bucks didn’t let up in the fourth quarter, and were able to get starters off the court before the last minute of the game. 

Four of the starters for Milwaukee went over 20 points, including Bobby Portis who started in place of the injured Antetokounmpo. Brook Lopez dominated in the paint grabbing multiple alley-oops en route to a 33-point night. Khris Middleton had 26 points and 13 rebounds. Jrue Holiday was responsible for getting Lopez the ball down low several times, collecting 13 assists and 25 points. Bobby Portis took advantage of his 36 minutes to play, scoring 22 points. 

The Bucks go back on the road to the Peach State with the series lead to face the Hawks on Saturday at 7:30 PM. 

With Giannis Antetokounmpo listed as doubtful to play in Thursday’s game five of the Eastern Conference Finals for the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta’s Trae Young’s status unclear, Thursday’s game will be intriguing in its own way. Milwaukee had a chance to put optimal pressure on the Hawks and take a 3-1 lead but was thumped by the Hawks 110-88 on Tuesday. Even though Antetokounmpo’s status is unclear for the playoffs, many Bucks fans breathed a sigh of relief when an MRI confirmed there was no structural damage in his hyperextended left knee after a scary fall in game four. 

It is uncertain who will step up for the Bucks on Thursday, but Milwaukee was led in scoring by Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday in game four. With the series tied at 2-2, game five is at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee and will start at 7:30 PM.

Another event added to the list of ones coming back is the Packers welcoming back fans for competition, but not for football. It was announced this week that the Green and Gold Charity Softball Challenge will return on August 16th at 7:05 PM. The event that was canceled in June of 2020 will take place at Fox Cities Stadium. The game will be hosted by running back Aaron Jones and linebacker Za’Darius Smith. The night kicks off with a home run derby.

Though the Green Bay Booyah fell in an 11-9 game to the Madison Mallards in Ashwaubenon on Wednesday night, Jake Berg had a successful individual night. The Jacksonville University product was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night. The catcher had two home runs in Wednesday’s effort. Berg also collected three RBIs. The Booyah take the field on Thursday against Madison at home, beginning at 6:35 PM.

The Milwaukee Brewers did themselves no favors in the first inning of their 15-7 win over the rival Chicago Cubs on Thursday, earning them a sweep. Aaron Ashby had troubles on the mound through his 0.2 innings and Milwaukee gave up seven runs in the top half of the first. Milwaukee scored a run in the bottom half and then five in the next inning, highlighted by an Omar Narvaez two-run homer to make it a 7-6 ballgame after two complete. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Brewers exploded for eight runs with much credit to Willy Adames who hit a grand slam. Luis Urias hit his second shot of the day in the sixth inning. His second was a solo home run. Milwaukee took three games over Chicago and will play Pittsburgh on Thursday at home, starting at 6:05 PM.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers almost the entire game on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field as they built a 5-1 lead.  The Beloit Snappers caught Wisconsin with a run in the seventh and three runs in the ninth.  The Rattlers went back in front with two runs in the top of the tenth, but the Snappers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to defeat Wisconsin 8-7.  Troy Johnston knocked in the winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth.

Thomas Dillard lined a home run off the light tower beyond the right field fence on a 3-0 pitch to start the top of the second inning.  Dillard’s sixth home run of the season gave Wisconsin (23-26) a 1-0 lead.

Beloit (24-26) threatened to score in the bottom of the second inning with a walk and a single by the first two batters.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Victor Castañeda got out of the inning with a popup and a 6-4-3 double play.  Then, the Wisconsin offense went to work in the top of the third.

The Timber Rattlers converted four straight hits into three runs.  LG Castillo started the rally with a double to right-center.  David Hamilton was next and he cracked a home run over the 16-foot high wall in center.  Korry Howell beat out an infield single and Garrett Mitchell doubled to center to keep the rally going.  Dillard sent a hard grounder to first that got Howell home and Wisconsin led 4-0.

Griffin Conine got Beloit on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The homer was fifteenth of the season for Conine.

Wisconsin got that run back in the top of the sixth inning.  Garrett Mitchell singled, stole second, and went to third on a ground out.  A wild pitch by Snappers starter Bryan Hoeing allowed Mitchell to score and the Rattlers were up 5-1.

Freisis Adames worked through two scoreless innings and turned the game over to John LaRossa.

LaRossa allowed a run on a one-out single by Kameron Misner in the bottom of the seventh.  The hit scored Connor Scott from second and sent Thomas Jones around to third base.  LaRossa got the second out on a shallow fly to left that kept the runners at the corners, but also brought Conine to the plate as the tying run.

Conine never got a chance.  Misner took off for second before LaRossa could deliver his 2-1 pitch to Conine.  LaRossa stepped off and threw to Hamilton covering second base.  Hamilton didn’t wait to get Misner in a run down and threw home immediately when he saw Jones take off for the plate.  Jones got caught in a rundown and was eventually tagged out by catcher Nick Kahle for the final out.

The Snappers put two runners on again in the bottom of the eighth inning against Harold Chirino.  The right-hander struck out the first two batters he faced but an error and a single brought the tying run to the plate.  Chirino got the final out on a grounder to second.

In the bottom of the ninth, Scott doubled off the wall in right and Jones drew a walk to start the inning.  Misner drove a double to left-center to score both runners and chase Chirino.

Taylor Floyd took over and got the first out on a fly ball to the track in left that was deep enough to allow Misner to tag and go to third.  That brought Conine to the plate and he singled over the drawn-in infield to send Misner home with the tying run.

Castillo put the Rattlers back in front in the top of the tenth inning with a two-run home run over the wall in left-center.  It was Castillo’s first home run of the season and Wisconsin had a 7-5 lead.

Nash Walters, the sixth Wisconsin pitcher of the night, came on to pitch the ninth.  An error on a grounder off the bat of Ricky Aracena started the inning and allowed the runner that started the inning at second to score and the lead was down to one run.  The error was the third of the night by the Rattlers

Scott was next and he singled to left on a hit run play to send Aracena to third.  A soft grounder to third off the bat of Jones scored Aracena with the tying run.  Walters hit Misner on a 2-2 pitch and that brough Johnston to the plate.

Walters got ahead of Johnson 1-2, but the next pitch was lined to left on one-hop for a single.  Je’Von Ward came up throwing, but Scott was able to just beat the play at the plate and score the winning run for the Snappers.

Wednesday night was the third Timber Rattlers game to go to extra innings this season.  All three have been on the road.  The Rattlers have had the lead in all three extra-innings games but have lost in walkoff fashion in all three as well.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Wisconsin, too.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night at Pohlman Field.  Reese Olson (3-4, 4.98) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Snappers have named Kyle Nicolas (3-1, 4.62) as their starter.  Game time is 6:35pm.
