The Luxemburg-Casco cross country team will host nearly 20 teams on Friday for its annual Russ Fameree Invitational, including Kewaunee, Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, and Sevastopol.

The first races are set to begin at 3:45 p.m. at Northbrook Golf Course in Luxemburg.

The boys' squad nearly registered a perfect score to win the meet, with Spartans making up four of the first five finishers. Ezra Treml got the victory with a time of 16:10, over a minute in front of Zach Tassoul and Marcus Doell, who also finished with sub-18-minute times on the 5K course. On the girls' side, it was Claire DuChateau who won her fifth race in six tries on Thursday with a 5K time of 18:28 on the hilly terrain. She said afterward that she has a lot of confidence going into the final stretch of the season. The Spartans had four runners in the Top 10, but it was not enough to overtake Green Bay Preble for the team title.

Muddy conditions did not slow down the Kewaunee cross country teams at Thursday's Reedsville Invitational. The boys' team finished in 6th place while the girls took 7th as a squad. For the girls, Natalie Miller ran a season-best 21:22 5K to pace the Storm as she posted a top-15 performance. Alison Kuehl and Olivia Kuehl were able to record personal bests in their races. On the boys' side, Jayden Reckelberg ran a personal-best 19:25 to finish in the Top 35 and lead the Storm. Six of the seven boys recorded a season best or better in the race.

The Sevastopol cross country team posted great times on its home course on Thursday as it hosted the Pioneer Invite. Led by Landon Sitte, the Pioneers had all four of its runners finish in the Top 20 in the boys' race and all under 22 minutes on the 5K course. For the girls, Breiah Newton once again led the way with a time of 20:44 to take fifth place overall while three of her teammates all recorded personal bests. 

Abigail Matson ran a personal best time of 23:14 to pace the Sturgeon Bay girls cross country team to a third-place finish in last Thursday's Pioneer Invite. Penny Kiedrowski was right behind her in 15th place (23:40) as all of the Clippers finished in the Top 25. It was similar for the boys' squad, which also finished in 3rd thanks to a personal best for Elliott Brown (19:49, 12th) and another top-15 performance by Deacon Haus (20:38, 14th). 

Running in honor of High School teacher Erin Fritsch as she battles cancer inspired plenty of fast times at Thursday's Reedsville Invitational. On the boys' side, Colton Valley ran a personal record 18:17 to take 13th overall. All four varsity runners recorded at least a season-best time in the 5K race. On the girls' side, Malania Veeser's personal best time of 19:33 helped her capture 1st place overall. Six of the seven runners on the girls' team ran a personal record, with Addison Miller (22:07) recording a season-best time.

Luxemburg Casco will be playing for a chance to stake a claim for a share of the North Eastern Conference on Friday night, when it travels to Freedom to play the Irish on 104.1 WRLU. 

The Spartans cruised to victory last week, hosting Sheboygan Falls, clipping the Falcons 67-0.  Offensively, Luxemburg-Casco rushed for 384 yards as a team, with Eli Derenne recording 98 yards on 6 carries, finding the end zone twice in just one half of game time.  Derenne also threw for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. Backup QB Callen Murphy got the entirety of the second half to lead the offense, recording 5 carries for 101 yards and 4 touchdowns to close out the blowout.  The Spartans' defense forced 7 turnovers in the win as well.  

L-C will have their work cut out for them, battling the undefeated Freedom Irish, who come into the contest as the #1-ranked team in the Bound Wisconsin coaches poll for Division 4.  The Irish got a 42-20 win over Wrightstown last week, led by QB Owen Henkel's 258 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. 3 of those went to junior WR Charlie Micke, who hauled in 9 total catches for 135 yards.  Henkel also ran for a touchdown in the win. 

Eric Fischer and Ramsay Thompson will have the call from Freedom High School, with pregame coverage at 6:45 pm, and kickoff at 7:00 pm on 104.1 WRLU.  

Reese Bandow represented Luxemburg-Casco at the WIAA Division 1 sectional Tuesday, shooting a 94 at Thornberry Creek at Oneida.

Bandow advanced to the sectional as an individual after shooting an 85 at the regional meet, where the Spartans fell just three strokes short of advancing as a team. The senior was unable to earn one of the individual spots at state, finishing tied with Bay Port’s Eva Kentop and Notre Dame’s Abigail Rupp with a 94.

Green Bay Preble’s Emma Cunningham led the field with a 71 and qualified individually for state. De Pere’s Emma Hudson and Ashwaubenon’s Amelia Hogue also earned individual state berths, while Bay Port and Kaukauna advanced as teams.

The sectional appearance brings Bandow’s senior season with Luxemburg-Casco to a close after advancing through the postseason as the Spartans’ lone sectional qualifier. 

Luxemburg-Casco opened the night with a win, but Oconto Falls responded by taking the next three sets to hand the Spartans a 3-1 loss.

The Spartans took the opening set 25-20 before the Panthers answered with a tight 25-22 victory in the second. Oconto Falls carried that momentum into the final two sets, winning 25-19 and 25-15 to close out the match.

The Spartans were led by Claire Schleis (27 assists, 12 kills), Stella Schleis (16 assists), Aubrey Frey (26 kills, 14 digs), and Jenna Annoye (25 digs).

The loss moves Luxemburg-Casco to 17-14 on the season, while Oconto Falls improves to 27-4. Head coach Jeff Frey credited Oconto Falls for making the plays when they needed to. "Congrats to Rochelle and her team they got tonight and they deserved it.  We’ll regroup and go back to work tomorrow," Frey said postmatch.

The Spartans have a week before returning to action Tuesday at Waupaca.

Luxemburg-Casco boys soccer used a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-0 road victory over Marinette on Tuesday night.

After the two teams went into halftime scoreless, the Spartans broke through twice in the second half to take control and come away with the shutout victory.

The win brings Luxemburg-Casco back to .500 on the season as the Spartans continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of their schedule.

Luxemburg-Casco returns to action Saturday, Oct. 10, when it travels to Grafton.

The area's lone qualifier takes to the course on Tuesday when Luxemburg-Casco's Reese Bandow competes in the Notre Dame Sectional at Thornberry Creek Golf Course in Oneida.

While the Spartans came up just short as a team, the senior Bandow kept her season going by qualifying individually after firing an 85. We talked to Bandow earlier this season about the strides her game took going into her senior season and what she was going to focus on to help her qualify for next week's state tournament at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

The tee time for the Par-72 course is 9 a.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team returns to NEC action on Tuesday when they host Oconto Falls in their home gym.

The Spartans posted a sixth-place showing at the Neenah Invite on Saturday. The Spartans started the tournament with a 1-1 record in pool play, beating Appleton East 25-23, 28-26 before losing to Oconomowoc 25-20, 20-25, 12-15. In bracket play, the Spartans beat Manitowoc Lutheran 25-17, 19-25, 15-13 before falling to Fox Valley Lutheran 16-25, 25-21, 13-15. Leading the way for the Spartans were Claire Schleis (56 assists, 22 kills, 20 digs), Stella Schleis (32 assists, 21 digs), and Aubrey Frey (62 kills, 31 digs).

The Panthers are also undefeated in NEC play and boast a 27-4 record overall. They have not lost since a three-match losing streak at the end of August that left them with a record of 6-4.

The first serve is set for 7 p.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team hits its home pitch on Tuesday with a match against Marinette.

The Spartans made their first-half goals stick in a 2-0 win over Denmark on Thursday. They struck first in the fourth minute when Dylan Roberts scored on a Blake Barbiaux assist to make it 1-0. Nearly 20 minutes later, the Vikings helped the Spartans double their advantage with an own goal in the 23rd minute. Shots were hard to come by for both teams, with the Spartans' Carson Koller stopping two shots and the Vikings' Mason Rozek making three saves. 

The Marines lost their last match to Freedom 4-0 and two of their last three matches after starting the season on an eight-game point streak (6-0-2).

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

"I’m excited about the growth we are showing; we are starting to play our best volleyball of the season."

Luxemburg Casco was able to cruise to a dominant win on Friday, taking down the Sheboygan Falls Falcons by a 67-0 margin, as heard on 104.1 WRLU. 

Joey Jeanquart got the night started on a good note for the Spartans, intercepting a pass and taking a return near midfield. Three plays later, Eli Derenne connected with Jeanquart for a 24 yard touchdown pass.  The Falcons offense strung together a couple plays but fumbled, giving the ball back to LC. The Spartans offense struck quickly, with Derenne rushing for a 64 yard score.  Jeanquart picked off another pass on Sheboygan Falls' ensuing possession, leading to Derenne connecting with Mason Lemens for a 23 yard touchdown.  Another stop by LC's defense ended with Derenne scampering for his 2nd score, this time from 12 yards out.  The Spartans forced yet another fumble in Falcons territory with Tyce Klaubauf capping off the drive with a 4 yard touchdown run. The two teams exchanged turnovers with Luxemburg Casco getting one last chance before the half. Once again, Derenne connected with Jeanquart, this time from 13 yards out to put the Spartans up 41-0 before the half, earning a running clock for the rest of the contest. 

In the second half, the Spartans reserves took the field, with Callen Murphy leading the offense, and shining in relief.  In his efforts, the sophomore quarterback rushed for 4 touchdowns in the second half, with scores from 15 yards, 14 yards, 45 yards, and another from 14 yards.  The Spartans defense was just as impressive, forcing a few more fumbles over the remainder of the contest.  

Luxemburg Casco head coach Neil Seering joined the booth after the game, crediting his team's efforts in the win.  Additionally, he gave us a look ahead at next week's game against Freedom, which could be for the North Eastern Conference championship. The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team's focus on serving paid dividends Thursday night in a 3-0 sweep of Marinette.

The Spartans won the match 25-9, 25-14, 25-8 thanks to 19 service aces. Claire Schleis alone had six of the service aces to go along with 17 assists and five kills. The Spartans were also led by Stella Schleis (10 assists), Aubrey Frey (18 kills), and Ali Jansen (6 kills). 

"Winning on the road is always good," said head Jeff Frey after the match. "We have been focusing a lot on our serving, and I thought we were really good again tonight from the service line."

The win sets the Spartans up for an important home match next week against Oconto Falls.

Across the sideline will be the Sheboygan Falls Falcons.  Sheboygan Falls comes in to the contest with an 0-6 record, having been held scoreless each of the last two weeks. Austin Seebruch leads the Falcons with 285 rushing yards and one touchdown.

The Neenah Rockets took the match from the Spartans 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 across four closely contested sets. The Spartans were led by Claire Schleis (22 assists, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Aubrey Frey (21 kills and 15 digs), Ali Jansen (8 kills), and Jenna Annoye (17 digs).

The Marines have struggled to accumulate wins as they look for their first victory in NEC play. They have not won a match since a 3-0 win against Menominee on September 8th and not captured a set since then either.

First serve is set for 7 p.m.

The Spartans took control early and never looked back Tuesday night, cruising past Wrightstown 5-0 in NEC boys soccer action. They carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime before breaking the game open with four goals in the second half. Elvin Mendoza led the way with a hat trick.

The Vikings are 5-5-2 on the season and on a two-game point streak with 1-0 win against NEW Lutheran and a 2-2 draw with Seymour to their credit.

Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Rockets took the match 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 across four closely contested sets.

The Spartans were led by Claire Schleis (22 assists, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Aubrey Frey (21 kills and 15 digs), Ali Jansen (8 kills), and Jenna Annoye (17 digs).

Head coach Jeff Frey said afterwards that while they were disappointed in the result, he was happy with the effort  and the overall play. "There are a lot of positives to take out of this match.  Hats off to Nate and his team, they made a few more plays than we did in the big moment."
 

Frey was also complimentary of the atmosphere provided by the fans for their Pink Out Night, which raises thousands of dollars every year for Ribbon of Hope, which has a mission is to be a financial, informational and emotional resource for individuals with breast cancer in Northeastern Wisconsin.

Luxemburg-Casco finished fifth as the host of Tuesday’s WIAA Division 1 regional at NorthBrook Golf Course, falling just three strokes short of the team qualifying mark.

While the Spartans came up just short as a team, senior Reese Bandow kept her season going by qualifying individually after firing an 85. Bandow was one of the top individual finishers in the field and will move on to the next round.

Brielle Snowberry was next for Luxemburg-Casco with a 99, followed by Chloe Treml with a 100 and Averi Buresh with a 106. Aubree Wypiszenski rounded out the Spartans' team score with a 120.

Kaukauna won the regional with a 333, followed by Green Bay Preble at 365, Notre Dame at 378 and De Pere at 387. Luxemburg-Casco finished at 390.

The Spartans are coming off a three-set sweep of Little Chute last Thursday night. The Spartans won the match 25-11, 25-16, 25-17 to improve to 14-11 overall and 5-0 in the NEC. The Spartans were led by Claire Schleis (14 assists, 6 kills, and 6 digs), Stella Schleis (9 assists and 8 digs), Aubrey Frey (16 kills and 6 digs), Ali Jansen (6 kills), and Jenna Annoye (16 digs and 4 aces).

The Rockets are 18-4 on the season, with a loss to Oconomowoc the lone blemish during the month of September. They have swept nine of their last 10 opponents, including a 3-0 victory over Appleton East last week.

Thursday's 7 p.m. first serve is part of a night of fundraising to support Ribbon of Hope.

The road to the state meet begins on Tuesday for the Luxemburg-Casco girls golf team when they host the WIAA Regional at Northbrook Golf Course in Luxemburg.

In their last official action, the Spartans took on staunch competition Monday at Oneida Golf Club for the Notre Dame Triton Classic, taking 12th overall. The Spartans shot a score of 396, 10 strokes outside the Top 10, which included Bay Port's score of 337 to lead all teams. The Spartans were led by Reese Bandow, who shot a score of 88 to finish tied for 16th place. Brielle Snowberry was one stroke behind her teammate to finish tied for 18th along with five other golfers. 

Appleton East, Ashwaubenon, De Pere, Green Bay Preble Co-op, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Neenah, Notre Dame (Green Bay), and West De Pere will compete with the Spartans for spots in the sectional round when golfing begins at 9 a.m.

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team returns to NEC play on Tuesday when they welcome Wrightstown.

The Spartans are coming off a 3-2 loss to Ripon last week. Carson Koller had a busy night in net for the Spartans, stopping 11 Tigers shots while also navigating five corner kicks.

The Tigers are 1-9 on the season with a -51 goal differential, compared to -4 for the Spartans. A 2-1 win over Stockbridge is the lone bright spot for the Tigers in the last five fixtures, which include falling 8-0 to Howard Groves/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah and Kiel.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

In their last action, the Spartans took on staunch competition Monday at Oneida Golf Club for the Notre Dame Triton Classic, taking 12th overall. The Spartans shot a score of 396, 10 strokes outside the Top 10, which included Bay Port's score of 337 to lead all teams. The Spartans were led by Reese Bandow, who shot a score of 88 to finish tied for 16th place. Brielle Snowberry was one stroke behind her teammate to finish tied for 18th along with five other golfers. 

Bonduel, Oconto Falls, St. Mary Catholic, Seymour, and Shawano are also scheduled to participate in the 3 p.m. tee time.

Luxemburg Casco found the endzone early and often, as the Spartans rolled past Seymour for a 42-6 win on its Homecoming game, as heard on 104.1 WRLU. 

Eli Derenne continued a sensational season, scoring his first of three touchdowns on the third play of the game, scampering to the end zone from 59 yards out.  The Spartans defense forced a punt and marched down the field once again. This time Derenne connected with Joey Jeanquart through the air, with Jeanquart making a pair of Thunder defenders to score from 11 yards out.  Luxemburg Casco's defense forced a fumbled on Seymour's ensuing drive, taking over deep in Thunder territory. Moments later, Ben Klass punched in his first touchdown of the evening from 1 yard out in the closing seconds of the opening quarter to go up 21-0. Another defensive stop led to another Seymour punt, followed by Derenne's second score of the evening, this time for 33 yards. The Luxemburg Casco defense was able to force yet another punt, this time deep into Spartans territory, with the offense taking over at their own 10. LC got a couple big plays, methodically going down the field, and scoring on another Klass 1 yard touchdown.  Wyatt Bailey was perfect on PAT kicks, giving the Spartans a 35-0 lead, and running clock for the remainder of the contest. Luxemburg Casco took this score into the halftime Homecoming festivities which you can see below. 

With running clock for the entirety of the second half, the game moved quick. Seymour started the half with the ball, and was putting together its best drive of the game but a fumble got the Thunder backed up behind the chains and ultimately punting.  The Spartans offense kept the starters out for one more drive, capped off with Derenne completing the hat trick with a 20 yard score.  Seymour would get find the endzone, with Greg Salzman rushing from 28 yards out against the Spartans reserves late in the 4th.

Homecoming week is here for Luxemburg-Casco, and the Spartans will host the Seymour Thunder in a crossover game between the Northeastern Conference and the Bay Conference, and we'll have the action on 104.1 WRLU.  

Luxemburg-Casco got back above .500 last week, after taking down the Wrightstown Tigers 24-6.  Eli Derenne starred once again for the Spartans, rushing for 135 yards and a score, and throwing for 90 yards and an additional touchdown. Ben Klass also exceeded the century mark with 106 yards and a touchdown carry.  

Seymour comes into the contest at 3-2, following a 42-6 defeat at the hands of Xavier.  Thunder running back Greg Salzman was held in check, limited to just 74 yards in the contest, but did throw for Seymour's lone touchdown, a 7-yard strike to Owen Linzmeyer on the team's lone completed pass of the game (per Bound WI) on a rainy Friday in the Fox Valley.  Salzman has been one of the top rushing threats, entering the game 5th in Division 4 with 702 yards for the season.
