Clippers soccer has breakthrough vs. Sevastopol/Gibraltar

Sturgeon Bay notched its first conference win, 2-0, over the Sevastopol/Gibraltar United team Thursday night at Clark Field.

It was a perfect night for soccer. SB outshot the United team 14-4. Malaya Martinez scored Sturgeon Bay's goals in the 4th and 50th minutes.

"We are finally starting to create better chances to score by getting the ball into dangerous spaces in front of our opponent's goal.  Mal Martinez played really well tonight at forward, as did our entire midfield, and Maddie Hemminger was brilliant on defense.  Playing DC United is always a tough win for anyone in the Packerland Conference.  We have played a lot of larger schools to prepare for our conference schedule this year, and it has improved our speed of play."

The Clippers' next game is on the road against Appleton North on Friday night. The Lightning enter the matchup 2-1-0 after beating Neenah earlier in the week 2-1.

Packerland golf heads to Marinette for third round

On Monday, the Sturgeon Bay golf team captured its second win of the season at The Woods Golf Course in Green Bay. Tre Wienke's score of 40 paced the Clippers to 175 points. Evan Maccaux of Kewaunee was right behind Wienke with a score of 41, while Oconto's Carter Koch registered a score of 43 points. Four others, including Southern Door's Finley LaVine and Sturgeon Bay's Calvin Richard and Owen Pichette, scored a 44.

Sturgeon Bay softball can't keep up with Oconto

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers softball team could not hold down Oconto in either end of a doubleheader on Monday, losing game one 26-10 in six innings and 17-2 in four innings.

In game one, the Clippers batted around in the third inning to keep the mercy rule at bay for at least one more inning as they took advantage of five walks and a hit-by pitch. Jacqueline Barlas,  Caprice Carbajal, and Annika Schoeneman recorded hits in the loss, while Madeline Propsom scored twice.

In game two, Schoeneman's double and Propsom scored the Clippers' two runs and registered the team's only hits in the loss.

Clippers baseball earns doubleheader split vs. Blue Devils

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team beat the Oconto Blue Devils 10-4 in the first of two games against the Oconto Blue Devils, only to lose 6-3 in the nightcap.

In game one, the Clippers set the tone with three runs in the first inning before shutting the door completely in the sixth with five more runs as five players had at least two hits. Curt Meyer and Garrett Ulberg each drove in three runs in the win.

In game two, both teams scored two runs in the opening frame, but the Blue Devils scored single tallies in the second and third innings to help lead them to victory. Two errors plagued the Clippers as only two of the Blue Devils' six runs. Meyer and Brady Kollath each drove in a run and Bryce Plzak joined them in recording a two-hit performance.

"We played well in game one tonight and did some positive things. Oconto is a good team, and anytime you can defeat them soundly it's a step forward," said Coach Neal Henrigillis after the two-game set.  "We could have taken both halves of the doubleheader but couldn't stay mentally focused enough in game two and let blunders get the best of us. Regardless it was a good early season test for our team."

Clippers soccer shutout by Bulldogs

An early goal by Peshtigo’s Audra Bauman in the seventh minute was the difference on a windy night on the road for the Sturgeon Bay girls' soccer team.

Clippers keeper Isabella Jimenez Seyfer recorded eight saves in goal, and the teams tied at eight shots on goal each. The Clippers have yet to score a goal in its young season, but two balls off the pipe didn’t help either.

Next up for the Clippers is Sevastopol/Gibraltar on Thursday.

Wienke, Clippers golf win second Packerland Golf Meet

The Sturgeon Bay golf team captured its second win of the season at The Woods Golf Course in Green Bay on Monday afternoon.

Tre Wienke's score of 40 paced the Clippers to 175 points. Evan Maccaux of Kewaunee was right behind Wienke with a score of 41 while Oconto's Carter Koch registered a score of 43 points. Four others including Southern Door's Finley LaVine and Sturgeon Bay's Calvin Richard and Owen Pichette scored a 44.

Clippers soccer moves up date with Bulldogs

The matchup was originally slated for April 18th.

The Clippers have opened their season with an 0-2-2 mark and are still searching for their first goal of the season. The Bulldogs are 1-0-1, taking advantage of a windy night in Luxemburg to beat the Spartans 3-2.

Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.

Clippers baseball sweeps Blazers

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team secured a doubleheader sweep of NEW Lutheran in Green Bay on Saturday, beating the Blazers 5-3 and 10-1.

In the first game, the Clippers trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning when they played four runs. Caleb Plzak, Brady Kollath, Danny Lodl, Garrett Ulberg, and Braylon LaRoche also drove in runs in the win.  Lodl picked up the win in relief, allowing no hits or runs in 2/3 innings.

The Clippers repeated the feat in game two as they scored four runs again in the sixth inning. The runs were for insurance, as the Clippers were up 6-1 entering the inning. Caleb Plzak did most of the damage, going 3-4 and driving in five runs. Kollath and Lodl also had RBI in the game.

Clippers tracksters win four events

The Sturgeon Bay track teams earned four event wins, including three on the girls' side, in Saturday's Denmark Cold Vike Invite.

For the girls, Ella Tarkowski won the 100m with a season best while Cady Carlson used a personal record to capture the title in the 400m. Nida Zukauskaite leapt her to a season best and a win in the high jump. The Clippers girls also had five other top 3 performances, including two from Julia Kurek.

Tritons run past Clippers girls' soccer

The Notre Dame Academy Tritons showed why they are one of the top teams in the state on Monday as they shut out Sturgeon Bay on Monday 7-0.

Sturgeon Bay, missing several defensive starters, gave up four first-half goals but held the Tritons to five goals with five minutes remaining. In goal, Isabella Jiminez Seyfer was outstanding, making 34 saves in spectacular fashion.

The Clippers are looking for their first goal of the season after being shutout twice at Capital Credit Union Park on Friday, earning a 0-0 draw against Wrightstown after a 4-0 loss to Waterford.

Evers earns Academic All-State honors

Sturgeon Bay forward Gannon Evers picked up one last award this winter sports season after being named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

Evers had to reach the threshold that requires that nominated athletes be varsity players from any grade level and hold a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale). He was the only local boys' athlete to be named to the squad.  He joins these athletes that were named to the girls' Academic All-State team last week.

Clippers can't push brakes on Truckers in season finale on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers would get the game to within single digits several times during the game, but could never get closer as they eventually lost to the Clintonville Truckers 58-39.

The Clippers were put in a hole early as Jack Yaeger and Sam Wegener hit their shots for the Truckers while frustrating their visitor with a defense that yielded no points in the game's first four minutes. The defensive game plan centered around stopping Calvin Richard, which appeared to work for the Truckers as the senior scored no points in the first half and just four points from the free throw line for the whole game. Danny Lodl hit some outside shots in the first half to lead the Clippers with six points as they were down 30-18 at the break.

The  Clippers would get the deficit down to single digits several times in the second half, only to see the Truckers hit tough shot after tough shot to keep the Clippers at bay. Lodl would end up the only Clipper in double digits with 10 points; Jackson Starr scored seven points, and Hayden Tracy added six. Yaeger led all scorers with 26 points, Sam Wegener chipped in 10 points, and Jonathan Scherschel and Kade Rosenow each contributed 10 points.

Head coach Zach Goblisch expressed his pride in his team after the game, pointing out the adversity they faced and the accolades they collected along the way. The Truckers will head to Brussels to take on Southern Door in the Regional Final, a game that will air on 96.7  WBDK.

Clippers meet Truckers in Regional Semi-Final on U-102.1 Friday

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers could set up an All-Packerland Conference showdown on Saturday if they can leave Clintonville with a win on Friday night.

The Clippers defeated the Menominee Indian Eagles 79-61 on Tuesday.  Twice inside the last 10 minutes of the game, the Clippers held just a single-point lead after letting double-digit leads slip away.  Free throws, and plenty of them, helped build the leads back up multiple times as the Clippers went 27 of 35 from the charity stripe. Calvin Richard led the way in scoring for the Clippers, who put up 30 points while being a perfect 8-8 at the free throw line in the second half. Jackson Star scored 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half.

The Truckers split their last six games of the regular season to finish the year 16-8. Jack Yaeger leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Matt Malvitz and Tim Kowols will have the call on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Clippers Fight Off Eagles Comebacks to Advance 79-61 on U102.1

The final score does not tell the full story of how close the game was multiple times in the second half as Sturgeon Bay defeated the Menominee Indian Eagles 79-61 Tuesday.

The Clippers took their first win in the playoffs since 2020 and now face a matchup with #3 seed Clintonville on Friday night.

Clippers boys welcome Menominee Indian on U-102.1 Tuesday

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers boys' basketball team begins their journey to Madison from the friendly confines of their own gym on Tuesday when they welcome Menominee Indian.
