Primarily known as a passing football team, the Gibraltar Vikings rushed for 262 yards in its 38-14 win over Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Friday night on 105.1 The Viking. 

A big factor why was because of the weather, which dumped rain on the area on either side of Gibraltar's homecoming parade before clearing up prior to kickoff. The Vikings scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first quarter on a handoff to Alex Laughlin and a quarterback keeper by Luke Steebs. It was through the air that Steebs registered his second touchdown, a 20-yard fade to Dominic Krauel to send the Vikings into halftime up 18-0. Laughlin would add two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, one a nonchalant six-yard score and another on a 24 yard busted flea-flicker play. The Vikings got their only two-point conversion on a busted play as well as Alex Laughlin recovered a high snap as the team's kicker and found Brandon Stillman for the score. Steebs reached the end zone one last time on a four-yard touchdown run before the Titans got on the scoreboard with a pair of touchdowns in the game's final minutes. 

The Vikings head into next week's showdown against Algoma with a 5-1 record, matching last year's six-game start. That game will be able to be heard on 105.1 The Viking.

The Gibraltar Vikings hope to match last year's 5-1 start when it hosts Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Friday night for its homecoming game on 105.1 The Viking.

The Vikings have won four in a row since its opening week loss to Florence, including last week's slugfest against NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation 50-38. Lena/STAA is still looking for its first win of the season after losing to Three Lakes last week 57-18, which was by far their highest scoring output of the year. Both teams like to funnel their offense through their quarterbacks with the Vikings' Luke Steebs and Lena's Colby Borchardt among their team's leaders in passing and rushing yardage.

Anthony Casanas and Betsy Lecy continued their strong season for the Gibraltar Vikings at the Jim Bremser Cross Country Invitational held by Mishicot Thursday afternoon.

The boys' team did not have enough runners to field a full scoring squad, but Casanas was able to earn a top 20 finish with a time of 17:58. The girls took 13th overall, led by Lecy's 22:30 in the 5K race.

The Gibraltar volleyball team took full advantage of its homecoming crowd and swept the Kewaunee Storm in three straight sets Thursday night.

The Vikings did not let the Storm hit the 20-point plateau until the third set, taking the first two 25-18 and 25-9. In their closest set of the night, the Vikings captured the match with a 25-20 score.

Losing a host of senior contributors could have doomed Gibraltar’s football team, but instead their underclassmen are stepping up. Thirteen freshmen and sophomore dot the roster with many already making meaningful contributions. In Saturday’s 50-38 victory over NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation, the Vikings forced four turnovers including an interception by sophomore Sam Lindenberg and a fumble recovery by freshman Giuseppe Mercier. Thanks in part to some lopsided games during their current 4-1 campaign, the underclassmen are already getting meaningful playing time in all phases of the game. Gibraltar head coach Mike Peck is taking pride in his depth as the season crosses the midway point.

Peck is also happy other players that do not necessarily make the score sheet as much as conference offensive leaders Alex Laughlin and Luke Steebs are quietly having good seasons. Gibraltar will host their homecoming game this Friday against Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas on 105.1 The Viking beginning at 7 p.m. with the kickoff.  

The Gibraltar Vikings captured their fourth win in a row Saturday afternoon in Green Bay, defeating NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation 50-38. It was a game differing styles with the United using their power running game and the Vikings opening things up through the air. The game got off to an ominous start when the United turned a fumble recovery into a Dawson Grignon touchdown. The Vikings responded with three straight touchdowns thanks to the arm of Luke Steebs on the first score and a pair of Brandon Stillman runs. United’s Zach Luepke scored a pair of rushing touchdowns on either side of Steebs’ second touchdown pass to Alex Laughlin on the day to make it 22-14 at the break.  Steebs would find the end zone three more times for the Vikings in the second half, including twice through the air to Laughlin. Grignon reached the endzone another two times to cap the scoring for the United. Both teams struggled with turnovers with four a piece, but the Vikings were able to turn theirs into points each time to provide the difference. The Vikings are back in action for their homecoming game on Friday night when they welcome Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas to Fish Creek. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with 105.1 The Viking carrying the coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Gibraltar Vikings hope to run its winning streak in football to four when it plays NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation Saturday afternoon in Green Bay on 105.1 The Viking.

The Vikings are coming off maybe their most exciting victory of the season, a 28-24 slugfest against previously unbeaten Laona-Wabeno. NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation is also coming off a victory, a 14-0 decision to Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas. It is the first season as a co-op team for NEW Lutheran and Oneida Nation after years of playing apart. Boasting two different styles of offense coming into the season, Gibraltar head coach Mike Peck says they have done a good job blending it together.

The Gibraltar Vikings split its first two sets but could not get anymore in its 3-1 loss to NEW Lutheran in Packerland volleyball action Thursday night.

The Vikings lost its first set 20-25 but were able to capture the second set in extra points against the Blazers 29-27. After that the Blazers did not let the Vikings sniff 20 points the rest of the match, capturing the final two sets 17-25 and 12-25.

Leading the way for the Vikings were Abbi Sitte with one ace, nine kills, 15 assists, and 15 digs, Agne Zukauskaite with one ace, 10 kills, and 25 digs, and Sage Krause with 32 digs in the defeat. 

Gibraltar head volleyball coach Woody Heidler hopes with experience comes more victories. The Vikings have been able to get a few victories outside of conference play, but are still looking for their first Packerland win of the season. The team is made up of mostly juniors and seniors, led by four-year starter Abbi Sitte and Agne Zukausaite. Paired with a challenging schedule preparing them for the postseason, Heidler believes his squad has another regional championship in them.

The Vikings look to get that first conference win when they play at home against NEW Lutheran at 7 p.m.

Gibraltar's girls and boys cross country teams participated in Sheboygan on Tuesday. The Gibraltar boys did not have enough runners to place in the team standings but Nico Salm and Anthony Casanas put up great performances finishing back-to-back at 19:04 and 19:06 respectively. Jack Hitzeman finished with a time of 20:28.

Betsy Lecy was the best among all Gibraltar runners with a time of 23:33. The rest of the girls results can be found below.

Gibraltar's cross country teams will be back in action on September 26th at Mishicot.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer went on the road and played to a draw on Tuesday. The final score was 1-1 against Two Rivers/Roncalli. It was played at Roncalli High School.

The Vikineers will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Sturgeon Bay.

Long bus rides to big invitationals mean a lot of together time for area cross country teams. The teams will hit the road again Tuesday afternoon with five of the peninsula's seven teams in action. Gibraltar head cross country coach Joy Manweiler Bastian has seen her team grow not just in numbers since their first practice close to a month ago, but as runners in general.

Gibraltar will Join Algoma at the Sheboygan Lutheran Invitational for their slate of races beginning at 4:30 p.m. Luxemburg-Casco, Southern Door, and Kewaunee head to Wandering Springs Golf Course at 4 p.m. for the Denmark Invitational. Results from both races will be posted online at Wednesday at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.

Gibraltar's cross country teams had a successful day at the River Valley Invitational held at Spring Green Saturday morning.

Both teams took 13th over in their respective boys and girls races at in the small school division. Coach Joy Manweiler Bastian was still impressed by her team's efforts with several personal bests set during the meet. Maggie Moroney, Audrey Viste, Klara Orrick, Anthony Casanas, Emiliano Marvin all ran personal bests while Jack Moore ran a season-best time.

A slugfest turned into a track meet in the second half as Gibraltar beat Laona-Wabeno in MONLPC eight-man football action Saturday afternoon 28-24.

The first half started 6-0 in favor of Laona-Wabeno thanks to the Rebels' Connor Taylor punching in a touchdown from inside the five-yard line. The Vikings' Luke Steebs found Alex Laughlin for a 36-yard score to narrow the score to 8-6 at the break. Laughlin broke through to tie the game with a short touchdown, only to have Clayton Jansesch quickly answer back with a touchdown run of his own. Both teams started to play long ball after that, starting with Laughlin finding Marcus Reinhardt for a 43 yard score after receiving the pitch from Steebs. The Rebels quickly answered with their own 80-yard touchdown pass to Michael Stamper to make it 24-20. Laughlin would find himself a part of another scoring drive, this time on the receiving end of a 67-yard passing play from Steebs. 

It was a game of defensive stands for the Vikings, which forced four fumbles on the day while recovering two and made a key play at the end to give the Rebels their first loss of the season.

The Vikings are back in action next Saturday afternoon in Green Bay as they take on NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will air on 105.1 The Viking.

It is another week and another different starting time for the Gibraltar Vikings as they host the Laona-Wabeno Rebels on 105.1 The Viking.  Both teams are coming off big week three wins before Saturday’s matinee. The Vikings were able to contain Suring’s Logan Stuart and hit big plays of their own in its 43-24 victory of the Eagles.  The Rebels won in a 48-0 shutout of Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas. In four weeks the Vikings have split their home and road schedule so far on three different days of the week. Gibraltar head coach Mike Peck says they adjusted their schedule accordingly to game plan for what expects to be a tough test for his young team.

Put him just about anywhere on the field and Gibraltar’s Alex Laughlin can find success. Laughlin has played major roles in the Vikings’ two wins this season, including last week against Suring when he caught eight passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for another score. On defense, he led the team in tackles with 12.5 including three behind the line of scrimmage. Laughlin said in last week’s postgame show that he does not care where he is put and how he is used.

Laughlin is currently second in receiving yards in the conference and tenth in tackles. Gibraltar returns to action this Saturday afternoon against Laona-Wabeno.

Stockbridge was no match for Gibraltar's volleyball team on Tuesday. The Vikings picked up a home victory winning all three sets 25-18, 25-11, 25-10. Agne Zukauskaite led Gibraltar with 10 kills and four aces while Abbi Sitte was all over the court adding 20 assists, six kills and five aces.

Gibraltar will be back on the court on Thursday when they head to Oconto for a 7 PM start.

Giving up a late first-half touchdown to the host Suring Eagles gave the motivation the Gibraltar Vikings needed to take control of the game in a 43-24 victory Friday night on 105.1 The Viking.

The two teams traded scores for much of the first half thanks to Luke Steebs finding Alex Laughlin for a pair of second-quarter touchdowns from 10 and 43 yards out. After the Eagles surprised the Vikings with a 39-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute remaining, the Vikings had a trick up their sleeve ending with Laughlin finding Steebs in the endzone on double-reverse passing play. It was all Gibraltar in the second half, outscoring Suring 21-8 thanks to Brandon Stillman, Steebs, and Sam Lindenberg scoring on rushing touchdowns.

Gibraltar will play two consecutive Saturday matinees beginning this upcoming week against Laona-Wabeno in Fish Creek. You'll be able to catch that game on 105.1 The Viking beginning at 12:30 p.m. with the pre-game show followed by kickoff at 1 p.m.

The Gibraltar Vikings could not put the Peshtigo Bulldogs down in the match's final two games, losing in the end 3-2.

After dropping the first set, 15-25, the Vikings came back to win the next two 25-21, 25-17. After falling just short in set four 25-22, the Vikings lost 15-6 in the match's final frame.

The Vikings still had impressive performances on the evening led by Agne Zukauskaite with her 16 kills and 17 digs. Abbi Sitte and Sophia Alexander combined for another 14 kills in the loss.

The Gibraltar Vikings football team hope to make it two in a row on the young season when they travel to take on the Suring Eagles on 105.1 The Viking Friday night.

The Vikings' offense got back on track last Thursday during its 52-26 win over Gillett. The output has placed Luke Steebs as the conference's leader in passing yards and two of his favorite targets, Alex Laughlin and Brandon Stillman, in the top three for receiving. The defense will have its work cut out for them with Suring's Logan Staurt rushing the ball at a clip of over 250 yards per game. Like many teams recently making the switch to eight-man, Gibraltar head coach Mike Peck says it has to figure out to counteract Suring using 11-man concepts in its line play.
