Twice was certainly nice for the Kewaunee girl's basketball team as they repeated their state championship streak.

The Storm changed venues for this championship after the WIAA moved its signature girls' state championship event to the Resch Center in Green Bay. It entered its semifinal match-up with just one loss to fellow Kewaunee County opponent and state champion Algoma. It made quick work of Lodi in the semifinal, winning 40-27 thanks to strong offensive outputs at the end of each half. Things were a lot tighter in the championship game against another one-loss team in East Troy. The Storm was down 17-6 after one quarter, but outscored their opponents the rest of the way squeak past with 60-58 thanks to a game-winner from Alex Richard. Kelsey Stangel led her team in scoring and rebounding the whole year and did not disappoint in the state tournament, finishing among the all-time bests in a single tournament in scoring (44) and steals (8).

The Storm had All-Conference players in Kelsey Stangel, Alex Richard, Jill Kleiman, Kiley Heim, Amanda Kudick, and Courtney Miller.

DKHS.com's Champion of Champions Series: 2012 Kewaunee Girls' Basketball

The War on the Shore's southern rival had bragging rights in 2012 when the Kewaunee Girls' Basketball team won its first state title.

The Storm kicked off its Division 3 title run in stifling fashion as it beat Barron 38-18 before beating Oostburg in the championship game 50-41. The title win came off a bittersweet ending in 2011 when all three Kewaunee County teams made the state tournament only to lose in the championship game. In the title game against Oostburg, the game was tied heading into the fourth quarter before the Storm outscored their opponent 20-11 to give them their eventual winning margin. Nicole Geier (12 points) and Jill Kleiman (14 points) did their damage from deep as they combined to knocked down seven of their 14 shots from the three-point arc.
