Redbirds fly past Spartans softball

A three-run inning for the De Pere Redbirds proved fatal for the Luxemburg-Casco softball team on Friday as they lost for only the second time this season by a score of 4-1.

After both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings, an Spartans error led to two of the three runs scored by the Redbirds in the frame, a mistake that would lead to the team's demise. An Anna Vandermause single in the following inning cut the lead to two, but an insurance run in the seventh from the Redbirds proved to be more than the Spartans could handle.

Vandermause led the way offensively with two hits while three others got one hit. Erin Cherovsky took the loss for the Spartans, allowing three runs (1 ER) on five hits while striking out seven.

Spartans shut out by Mustangs

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team outhit Little Chute 4-3, but were outscored 2-0 in their latest loss to their NEC rival.

The game was scoreless through four as the Mustangs mustered single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings to take the win from the Spartans. Drew Bandow went 2-3 to lead the Spartans with Max Thayse and Landon Derenne picking up the only other hits.

Braeden Schley went the distance, striking out nine batters while allowing two runs (1 ER) and three hits. He just happened to be outdueled by Charlie Vanden Burgt, who allowed four hits and no runs while striking out 11.

Spartans softball goes back-to-back with win

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team became back-to-back NEC champions on Wednesday with a 6-0 win at Marinette on Wednesday.

The Spartans did their work early with a first-inning run and a four-run second inning aided by singles from Anna Vandermause and Payton Kaminski. A Maggie Hanmann single in the sixth inning added an insurance run for the Spartans, but it was a tally that Baylee Wypiszenski would not need. She went the distance for the Spartans, allowing no runs and just three hits. Kaminski ended the afternoon with two hits and a RBI to lead the Spartans offense.

The Spartans will play a game against Southern Door at home on Thursday with the first pitch coming at 4:30 p.m.

Spartans baseball walks off Zephyrs

Heads-up baserunning in the bottom of the seventh inning led the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team to beat St. Mary Catholic on Wednesday, 5-4.

The Spartans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, only to have the Zephyrs tie the game up late with a three-run sixth inning. The Spartans would steal the game back when Ryland Day reached first on a drop-third strike, setting the stage for Michael Bostwick to take home on the play after Max Thayse was intentionally walked. Thayse was a pest for the Spartans, going 3-3 and stealing three bases. Braeden Schley had two hits, while Drew Bandow led the team with two RBI.

Jacob Coisman earned the win on the mound after closing out the seventh inning for Jake Chervenka after he gave up four runs and seven hits.

Spartans golfers take third in NEC Championships

James Glampe led the way for the Luxemburg-Casco golf team on Wednesday as they took third in the NEC Championships at Brown County Golf Course in Green Bay.

The Spartans shot a score of 353, which was seven strokes behind champion Waupaca and six strokes behind second-place Wrightstown.  Glampe shot a team-best 82 to finish in sixth place, five strokes behind individual champion Jacob Zwiers of Little Chute. Josh Parins (87) and Lance Cherovsky (89) finished in the top 20.

Spartan girls soccer comes up short against Marinette

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' soccer team battled but fell to the Marinette Marines 6-1 on Tuesday night in an NEC match at home.

Aubrey Frey scored the only goal for the Spartans in the loss, and Emi Kuhn assisted on the goal.

In the net, Ashley Fameree had ten saves for the Spartans.

Luxemburg-Casco (6-8) will now play the Waupaca Comets on Thursday. The first tap is set for 6:30 p.m. in Waupaca.

Spartans softball holds off Tigers

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team held off some late rallies by Wrightstown to win the game 5-3 on Monday.

The Tigers struck first with a run in the first, but the Spartans would come back with two runs in the third and fifth innings. The two teams would trade runs in the last two innings, but the Spartans closed the door with a Tiger in scoring position to win the game.

Erin Cherovsky earned the win, allowing two runs (1 ER) on five hits while striking out three. Josie Dorner's patience helped her drive in two runs without the benefit of a hit. Grace Kahr and Jillian Jorgensen each had two hits, with one of Jorgensen's hits driving in a run. Rylan Kaminski registered the other RBI for the Spartans in the win. For the Tigers, Mallory Colwell took the loss from the circle but went 2-3 at the plate, driving in one of her team's three runs.

Spartans soccer split at Oostburg Tournament

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team split their two matches at Saturday's Oostburg Tournament without the benefit of scoring in regulation.

The Spartans tied 0-0 with Sheboygan South but took them down in a shootout. A short turnaround made things tough against the host squad. The Flying Dutchmen took the Spartans in the team's second matchup 4-0.

Spartans shutout by Fox Valley Lutheran in doubleheader on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans dropped a pair of games to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Saturday, 1-0 and 12-0, in a North Eastern Conference baseball doubleheader.

In the opener, the Spartans could manage only two hits, one by Caleb Radant in the third inning and one by Max Thayse to lead off the seventh inning.  Foxes starter Alex Torrio shut out the Spartans while striking out five in going the distance.  Braeden Schley was the hard-luck loser, giving up only one run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning and going 5 2/3 innings while giving up only three hits.

In the second game, the Foxes jumped on Drew Bandow with seven runs in the first inning on five hits and never looked back in the 12-0 five-inning game.

Bandow led off the game with a single for the only Spartan hit in the nightcap.

L-C Coach Dan Routhieaux says the offense could not get going, and the Spartans' game got away from them quickly in the second game.

The Spartans (8-7, 11-7 overall) will now host NEC-leading Little Chute on Tuesday, while Fox Valley Lutheran (10-5, 11-9 overall) will travel to Waupaca to take on the Comets.

Between games, Luxemburg-Casco honored over a dozen alumni in attendance, including Tim Jorgenson, who was presented a framed number 34 jersey with it now retired in Spartan baseball.

For the boys, Trace Schoenbeck finished in third place in the 100m, matching Lane Ledvina's success in the high jump. Trevor Beaupre was the top finisher for the Spartans with a second place finish in the triple jump.

Spartans softball efficient with hits in victory

Two runs and three hits proved to be enough as the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans softball team were outhit but not outscored by Oconto Falls in a 2-1 victory.

Sacrifices by Josie Dorner in the first inning and Kate Van Ess in the fourth inning were the only runs they could muster against Panthers pitcher Maddy Maloney. She tried doing her part to help her cause, collecting two of the seven Panthers' hits. A seventh inning RBI by Izzy Otto was the only run scored by the Panthers, who were kept in check by Erin Cherovsky. In seven innings, Cherovsky allowed one run (1 ER) while striking out one.

Spartan baseball hosts Foxes in doubleheader on 104.1 WRLU Saturday

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans play host to the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Saturday in a North Eastern Conference baseball doubleheader.

The Spartans (8-5, 11-5 overall) are coming off a 5-0 shutout of the Ripon Tigers in non-conference play on Thursday, while Fox Valley Lutheran (8-5, 9-9 overall) fell to the Freedom Irish 6-0 on Monday night.

Tied for fourth place in the NEC, both teams are looking to finish the regular season finishes up.  Coach Dan Routhieaux says the competition in the NEC is strong, and the Ripon game is a good precursor to the upcoming WIAA tournament.

The pregame show for the first game will begin at 10:45 a.m. Saturday with the first pitch set for 11 a.m. on 104.1 WRLU.  The second game will start about 15 minutes after the opener with both games on-air and streamed at New Radio Sports Network.  Paul Schmitt and Eric Fischer will have the call from the Luxemburg-Casco Sports Complex.

You can listen to the entire interview with Coach Routhieaux on the podcast page here.

Spartans soccer devours Tigers

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team defended their home pitch on Thursday night, beating Ripon 2-0.

Emi Kuhn registered a brace for the Spartans, scoring once on a breakaway and another from the top of the penalty area. It was the second multi-goal game for Kuhn in seven days. The Spartans' defense and midfield made it an easy night for goalkeeper Ashley Fameree, who faced no shots on goal from the Tigers for another easy clean sheet.

Luxemburg-Casco hosts NEC track meet

Luxemburg-Casco will be the hosts of Friday's NorthEastern Conference Track Meet with their eyes on potentially winning it.

Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Waupaca, and Wrightstown are all scheduled to compete when the first events begin at 3:30 p.m.

Like many meets were on Tuesday, the Spartans only had a few athletes able to complete their events at West De Pere due to the rainy conditions. Trace Schoenbeck was not one of those athletes, but his time was fast enough to earn the Spartans' lone event win. Sienna Blohowiak and Claire DuChateau posted the best placement for the girls, coming in fourth place in the 100m and the 1600m, respectively.

Spartans softball clobbers Mustangs

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team put up crooked numbers in four of the five innings they played on Thursday to easily beat Little Chute 13-0.

The Spartans jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to two of the Mustangs' seven errors on the afternoon plus run-scoring hits by Kate Van Ess and Maggie Hanmann. After being held scoreless in the second inning, the Spartans would take the drama out of it in the third inning with five runs before tacking on three more in fourth inning and another two in the fatal fifth inning.

Josie Dorner led the Spartans with a 3-4 day that saw her drive in three runs. Kacie Jorgensen and Anna Vandermause each drove in a pair and Erin Cherovsky, Hanmann, and Van Ess also added RBI. Baylee Wypiszenski sparkled from the circle, allowing just two hits across five innings while striking out five.

The Spartans are back in action Friday when they play Oconto Falls at home at 4:30 p.m.

Schoenbeck leads Spartans at rain-shortened West De Pere track meet

The Luxemburg-Casco track team accumulated a half-dozen personal record dozens at Tuesday's West De Pere track meet before Mother Nature called things short.

Spartans softball take luck away from Irish in win

An early home run given up by Erin Cherovsky did not rattle the Luxemburg-Casco softball team in a 6-2 win over Freedom on Monday.

It was 1-0 Irish heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Spartans broke through with three runs in the frame. They would take on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to eliminate a comeback. The Spartans took advantage of four Irish errors to score most of their runs. Grace Kahr went 2-4 with an RBI, with Josie Dorner, Kate Van Ess, and Kacie Jorgensen all getting hits.

Cherovsky recovered after the home run, allowing six hits and two runs (2 ER) across seven innings while striking out six. It was vengeance for their earlier meeting in the season that resulted in the Spartans' lone loss.

The Spartans are back in action against last year's spoilers, the Marinette Marines, when they meet there for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch. The Spartans took the first game of the season series on April 18th with an 11-1 victory.

Spartans baseball can't overcome first inning in loss to Truckers

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team gave up three runs in the first inning, and that was it for both teams. On Monday, they lost 3-0 to Clintonville.

Two RBI singles and a bases-loaded walk were all the Spartans needed to defeat the Truckers, who outhit the Spartans 5-4 in the loss. Drew Bandow, Max Thayse, Ryland Day, Chris Vanderweilen, and Brady Massey all had hits in the game, with Massey going the furthest on the base paths. Only Dassey and Bandow got as far as second base in the game. Landon Derenne took the loss, allowing four hits and three runs (3 ER) across six innings of work while striking out six.

The Spartans are in action next on Thursday when they travel to Ripon ahead of a Saturday doubleheader against Fox Valley Lutheran that will air on 104.1 WRLU.

Spartans softball shuts out county foe

A scoreless first inning led to a rout as the Luxemburg-Casco softball team shut out Algoma 10-0 in six innings.

The Spartans scored at least two runs in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to end the game early. Despite the ten runs scored, Maggie Hanmann had the only multi-hit game while driving in two. Kacie Jorgensen played small ball en route to a four-RBI performance, as four others also went in at least one run. Nora Krause collected the only hit against Erin Cherovsky and Baylee Wypiszenski, the duo that combined to strike out four across six innings. Macie Zimmerman took the loss for the Wolves, allowing 10 runs (6 ER) across five innings, striking out six along the way.

Spartans' Thayse walks off Truckers

A 10th inning single by Max Thayse proved to be the difference in an 8-7 win Friday night for the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team over Clintonville.

The Spartans led 2-1 heading into fourth inning before the teams combined to score nine runs in two innings. It would remain a 6-6 score until the 10th inning when the Truckers scratched across one run, but Thayse's hit rendered those efforts moot.

Drew Bandow, Landon Derenne. Braden Schley, and Gage Delcore all had multi-hit games with Derenne responsible for two of the team's four RBI.

Kuhn's hat trick leads Spartans soccer to Mustang drubbing

Luxemburg-Casco's girls soccer team secured a shutout under the lights of their own pitch on Thursday, topping Little Chute 6-0.

The offense was led by Emi Kuhn, who registered a hat trick to pace the Spartans past the Mustangs. Alana Mrotek, Diem Bonness, and Aubrey Frey scored the other goals in the win, while Ashley Fameree posted her first clean sheet of the season.

Spartans wins first of two NEC meets this week

The Luxemburg-Casco golf team took first in Conference play on Tuesday at Little River Golf Course in Marinette, setting the tone for Thursday's conference meet at 10 a.m. at River Island Golf Course in Oconto Falls.

James Glampe came up just one stroke short of winning the meet with a score of 73. Brady Eastman of Marinette won the meet on his home course with a score of 72. Josh Parins also finished in the top 10 for the Spartans, coming in eighth place with a score of 81.

Spartans trackers place in top half of pent meet

The Luxemburg-Casco girls came in third, and the boys finished second in Tuesday's NEC pentangular at Fox Valley Lutheran.

The girls came up just short of event wins in several events, including runner-up finishes by Madyson VanArk (high jump), Grace Seering (100m hurdles), and Lydia Morozov (200m). The boys posted five event wins, including Trevor Beaupre (triple jump), Brayden Mueller (shot put), Derek Christoph (3200m), and Kyan Lynts (800m).

Head coach Neil Seering was proud of his team's accomplishments on Tuesday, which included several personal and season records. The Spartans are back in action on Friday at Two Rivers.

Spartan baseball falls to Denmark

A wild stretch by Luxemburg-Casco Spartan pitching led to the downfall of a 9-1 loss to the Denmark Vikings on Tuesday night.  The Vikings jumped to a three-run lead in the second inning with the benefit of seven walked batters and three hit-by-pitches.

Luxemburg-Casco (7-4, 9-4 overall) will play Denmark (8-2, 10-3 overall) again on Thursday night at home in NEC action.

Spartan soccer prevails over Green Bay East

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans used goals by Aubrey Frey and Sophia Mleziva to top the Green Bay East Red Devils 2-1 in high school soccer Tuesday evening.

Frey assisted on a goal as did Diem Bonness to lead the Spartans to the win over Green Bay East.

East’s lone goal was by Sherlyn Grijalca.
