Dramm makes most of state experience

Sevastopol's Bea Dramm ran well in her second trip to the state meet on Saturday.

 

Dramm ran a time of 21:31, which was good for 57th overall in Division 3. Seven runners broke 20 minutes at the course in Wisconsin Rapids, led by Elsie Kmecak of Catholic Central and her 19:47 on the 5K course. Boscobel won the team title at Division 3.   

Sevastopol volleyball falls in five-sets to Hilbert

The Sevastopol Pioneers came up just short of a sectional final appearance after falling to Hilbert at home in the sectional semifinals on Thursday.

 

Hilbert won the match by scores of 25-20, 23-25, 16-26, 25-20, and 17-15. 

 

The Pioneers end their season 29-8 and with a second-place finish in the Packerland Conference.

The Sevastopol Pioneers volleyball team hopes to advance to the sectional finals on Saturday with a win over Hilbert on Thursday.

 

Both teams have made quick work of their opponents so far in the tournament. The Pioneers swept both of the opponents in straight sets, beating Oakfield 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 and Almond-Bancroft 25-9, 25-11, 25-12. Hilbert fared the same, sweeping NEW Lutheran 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 and Tri-County 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.

 

Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. in Institute.

Volleyball leads the way for Pioneers' All-Conference selections

The Sevastopol Pioneers had plenty of All-Conference selections thanks to their volleyball team after they were announced over the weekend.

 

The Pioneers compete in three different conferences in the fall.

Pioneers' Dramm heads to state

Sevastopol's Bea Dramm still has one more race in her this season after qualifying for the state meet.

 

Dramm's time of 20:16 was good for sixth overall to lead the girls' team to a sixth place finish. Jarius Dadam covered the 5K course in 21:11 to the lead the boys.

Sevastopol looks to end season on high note vs. White Lake/Elcho

The Sevastopol Pioneers will have one more chance to give their seniors a win on the gridiron Friday night when they travel to face White Lake/Elcho.

 

The Pioneers fell in their "home" finale last week to their rivals to the north, losing to Gibraltar by a score of 43-36. Jack de Young threw for 177 yards and scored three total touchdowns in the loss. Cesar Sandoval was lightning in a bottle for the Pioneers, rushing for 114 yards and two scores while adding another 40 yards and a touchdown through the air.

 

White Lake/Elcho lost their final road game 28-20 to playoff participant Florence. Their last win was a 50-34 decision over Wausaukee on October 2nd.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. 

Pioneers rake Oaks, face Almond-Bancroft next

The Sevastopol Pioneers volleyball team cut down the Oakfield Oaks in consecutive sets Thursday night in Institute.

 

The Pioneers kept the Oaks' scoring in check, beating them 25-12, 25-18, 25-19.

 

Leading the way for the Pioneers include Madi Volkmann (12 kills, 5 ace serves) , Sam Differt (12 kills), Emma Stueber (28 assists), and Bailey Rikkola (13 digs, 5 ace serves). 

 

The Pioneers will host Almond-Bancroft, which won their regional semi-final match in five sets, on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Pioneer volleyball hopes to start strong in tournament play

The Sevastopol Pioneers hope to have a similar run to the alternative fall season when they start tournament play on Thursday night.

 

This spring, the Pioneers finished 14-4 en route to an appearance in the sectional final. They followed that impressive season with yet another one, finishing in second place in the Packerland with a 27-7 record and second place in the Packerland. Their opponent Oakfield earned their way to this round by beating Gibraltar 3-2 after finishing in the bottom half of the Trailways Conference.

 

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

Sevastopol girls win Packerland XC title

The Sevastopol Pioneers girls cross country team ran away with their second consecutive Packerland crown at Gibraltar on Thursday.

 

Dasha Yeltysheva was named Honorable Mention as Rachel Wilke and Libby Ash took home 2nd Team All-Conference honors. Naomi Rikkola and Bea Dramm were named 1st Team All-Conference. Dramm registered the team's fastest time at 20:38 on the 5K course, which was good for second overall.

 

Jaruis Dadam ran a 26:16 to lead the boys' team.

Sevastopol, Gibraltar renew rivalry on 105.1 The GOAT

It will be a battle for pride Friday night in Fish Creek when Sevastopol hosts Gibraltar in the likely season finale for both schools.

 

The Pioneers won the last matchup between the two teams just over five months ago 56-40 after jumping out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter against the Vikings. 

 

After posting a two-game winning streak, the Vikings fell last week to conference-leading Lena/STAA 58-40. The Pioneers also had a two-game winning streak snapped last week as they lost to Algoma 40-18.

 

Tim Kowols and Tim Ash will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.

Sevastopol volleyball sweeps Algoma

The Sevastopol  Pioneers topped the Algoma Wolves in Packerland Conference Volleyball Tuesday evening winning 3-0 games.  The Pioneers swept the games 25-18, 25-19, and 25-20.  Madi Volkman led the Pioneers with 16 kills, while Johanna Andreae provided 10 kills to dominate the net.  Bailey Rikkola helped out with 21 digs and Emma Stueber contributed 21 assists to provide a solid floor game.  Algoma was led by Ryley Zimmerman with two aces and eight kills, Amelia Robinson had one ace and 14 assists, and MyLee Jones contributed 13 digs and five kills in the loss.  

Sevastopol girls take second place at Fameree

The Sevastopol girls cross country stood tall against bigger competition and led them to some extra hardware at the Russ Fameree Invitational.

 

The high school girls team took home a 2nd place finish in the small school division. Bea Dramm was 8th overall. Naomi Rikkola and Ruth Wilke ran person records on the soggy course. 

 

Even coach Annie Kapolnek got into the action, taking first in the female coach/alumni 3.1 mile race with a time of 22:03.

Pioneers volleyball sweeps Gibraltar on state champ night

With the 1991 state champs looking on, the Sevastopol Pioneers volleyball carried the torch for them with a convincing 3-0 win over Gibraltar Thursday.

 

The Pioneers stood up to the Vikings' challenge in the first game with a 25-22 victory, but cruised in the final two sets  25-11, 25-11. 

 

Leading the way for the Pioneers was Madi Volkmann (14 kills), Johanna Andrea (10 kills), Bailey Rikkola (22 digs), and Emma Stueber (32 assists). 

Sevastopol to honor 1991 volleyball champs ahead of Gibraltar match

The Sevastopol volleyball team will honor one its program's best squads ahead of its match against Gibraltar Thursday.

 

It was 30 years ago when the Pioneers brought home the gold ball in the sport, beating Cuba City to take the title. The Pioneers could be on their way towards something similar as they boast a 23-5 mark on the season and 8-2 record over their last 10 matches. The Vikings have lost their last four matches including Tuesday's 3-0 loss to Southern Door.

 

The 1991 team will be honored after the JV game at around 6:15-6:30 p.m. The varsity game will start at 7 p.m.

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol falls to Peshtigo in boys soccer

Gibraltar/ Sevastopol lost to the Peshtigo 4-1 Tuesday night in EWC/Packerland Boys Soccer.  The Vikoneers are now 2-4-2 in the conference and 4-6-2 overall.  Peshtigo improves to 4-3 in the EWC/Packerland and 8-4-1 overall.

Sevastopol volleyball sweeps Kewaunee

The Sevastopol Pioneers rolled on the volleyball court Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of the Kewaunee Storm.  The Pioneers were led by Madi Volkmann and Sam Differt with nine kills each.  Bailey Rikkola added 17 digs, and Claire Haberli served up seven aces.  Emma Stueber contributed 22 assists as well and the Pioneers won convincingly 25-14, 25-8, and 25-13. 

Second quarter explosion bolts Pioneers past Gillett

The Sevastopol Pioneers needed only one good quarter to completely turn the game around for them in a 54-14 homecoming victory over Gillett Friday night.

 

The Tigers shocked the Pioneers with 14 first-quarter points and shutting out the Pioneers through the first 12 minutes of play. The  Pioneers' defense would pitch a shutout the rest of the way while the offense came alive. Ja ck de Young threw three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Pioneers to a 34-point outburst in the second quarter. Cesar Sandoval would also take a punt back for a touchdown in the game's decisive second quarter.

 

Sandoval, de Young, and Atlee Manson would all score rushing touchdowns in the third quarter before the game went to a running clock in the fourth quarter.

 

The Pioneers could act as spoilers over the next two weeks with games against Algoma and Gibraltar.

 

 

Sevastopol hosts homecoming quad

Members of the Sevastopol volleyball hope the good vibes start well before the homecoming dance when they host a Saturday quad.

 

The Pioneers will host Southern Door, Iowa-Grant, and Two Rivers when the action begins at 9 a.m. Two Rivers is one of two teams to have beaten the Pioneers in the month of September. The Pioneers otherwise won 12 matches without dropping a set in the process. The Eagles are still flying high after Thursday's win over Kewaunee after being down 2-0.

Pioneers cross country runs well against DePere, Gibraltar

It was a small meet, but coach Annie Kapolnek says Thursday's meet at Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay was a great day and lots of good races for Sevastopol, Gibraltar, and De Pere.

 

The Redbirds had the only complete team among the three teams in the boys race with Sevastopol not running anyone in the varsity. The Pioneers only had one runner in the top 7 as the Redbirds captured the girls varsity race. Bea Dramm led the way with a 5K time of 21:14.

Sevastopol volleyball gets back into win column

After falling to state-ranked Oconto earlier this week, the Sevastopol Pioneers volleyball team took its frustrations out on NEW Lutheran with a 3-0 set sweep.

 

The Pioneers kept the Blazers from reaching the 20-point plateau in any set, winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-13.

 

The Pioneers were led by Madi Volkmann (12 kills 5 ace serves) ,Johanna Andreae (10 kills), Bailey Rikkola (18 digs), and Emma Stueber (31 assists).

Pioneers football look to regain momentum against Gillett

The Sevastopol Pioneers hope to regain some momentum when they play Gillett at Gibraltar Friday night.

 

The Pioneers got their first win two weeks ago, but fell to conference-leading Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas last week 45-6 with Emmett Tomaszewski scoring the lone touchdown.

 

The Tigers have struggled this season, falling last week 72-20 to Gibraltar.

 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
