Pioneers cruise past Vikings to playoffs on 105.1 The GOAT

A quick lead led to a fast game as the Sevastopol Pioneers topped their rival Gibraltar Vikings 48-14 in the regular season finale for both teams on 105.1 The GOAT.

The Pioneers scored on every possession except one in the game, which included four scores in the first quarter. The first three touchdowns came courtesy of Bo Tanck's arm as he found Cash Kuehn for 33-yard and 16-yard scores and Reid LeClair from four yards out. LeClair added an eight-yard touchdown run to make it 32-0.

A third Tanck-to-Kuehn connection from 13 yards out started the running clock early at 38-0. The Vikings offense struggled to get going as they punted twice after two botched onside kick recoveries gave the Pioneers excellent field position.

The Vikings finally got on the scoreboard at the end of the third quarter after occupying much of the period. Brady White followed up a long run with a one-yard run to narrow the deficit. After LeClair extended the lead back out thanks to a short touchdown run by LeClair, Bultman scored for the Vikings one last time to cap the night's scoring.

The Pioneers will now wait for their opponent in the WIAA Playoffs, which will be announced on Saturday after going 7-1 on the season.

The Vikings saw their season come to a close with a 1-7 mark.

Sevastopol outlasts Gibraltar in five-set battle

Sevastopol needed all five sets to put away Gibraltar, earning a 3-2 victory in a back-and-forth Packerland Conference matchup.

Gibraltar grabbed the early advantage with a 25-18 win in the opening set before Sevastopol answered with a 25-17 victory in the second. The Vikings responded by taking the third 25-17, putting the Pioneers one set away from a loss.

Sevastopol answered again, taking the fourth set 25-16 to force a decisive fifth. With the match on the line, the Pioneers edged Gibraltar 15-12 to complete the comeback.

A huge help in the Pioneer win was Savanna Kiehnau who served out the last two games with three aces. Brynn Schartner had 15 kills and 14 digs, with Aleah Volkmann had 16 kills. The Vikings were led by Azucena Jauregui (10 kills, 13 digs, 3 blocks), Ella Clarke (9 kills, 4 blocks), Ema Collak (9 kills, 11 digs), Aileen Torres (7 kills, 3 aces, 12 digs), and Isla Fagundes (33 assists, 12 digs).

The Pioneers were led by Bo Tanck, who threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns while adding 98 yards and a score on the ground. Ray Johnson scored the other touchdown on a 63-yard run. Cash Kuehn was Tanck's main target, catching nine passes for 155 yards and both touchdowns.

On the boys' side, Graham De Voe ran a time of 19:26 to take 21st overall while two of his teammates ran a season-best time.

It was another race and another win for Luxemburg-Casco's Ezra Treml and Claire DuChateau on Thursday, this time at the Jim Bremser Invitational in Mishicot. Treml covered the 5K course in 16:40 to win the race by 16 seconds, beating out Kiel's Austin Helms, West De Pere's Zachary Natzke, and Appleton West's Kegan Phalin. Marcus Doell and Brayden Raydart cracked the Top 25 to help lead the Spartans to a team win. DuChateau had a 30-second margin of victory to win the girls' race with a time of 19:03, with Peshtigo's Berkeley Chaltry, Notre Dame's Anna Miller, and Bay Port's Eloise Holman trailing her. Gretta Annoye ran a time of 21:50 to help the Spartans to a 3rd-place finish behind Bay Port and Notre Dame.
