The Sturgeon Bay Clippers collected six event wins during Monday's Packerland Conference Track Championships hosted by Algoma on Monday.

The boys did their work in the field events with brothers Braden Evers (shotput) and Gannon Evers (discus) taking home wins along with Xavier Jandrin's success in the pole vault. The girls found their gold on the track with Ella Tarkowski (100m), Julia Kurek (3200m), and the 4x400m relay taking home wins.

The Clippers never trailed during Monday's doubleheader against Sevastapol on U102.1 in Sturgeon Bay. The first of the two games would be closer than the second, which ended after the fifth. Sturgeon Bay jumped out to a lead in the bottom of the second when a Garret Ulberg double, back-to-back singles by Curt Meyer and Trey Vanderleest, and a Sac fly by Dom Tristani put three runs on the board. Sevastapol would answer with two runs in the third when Chase Haberli and Frankie Deyoung would have RBI singles. However, Sturgeon Bay would blow things open in the bottom half of the inning, sending ten men to bat and scoring five more runs. 

Game one entered the 5th inning 3-10, and after a 1-2-3 top of the inning, the Pioneers would send 13 batters to the plate, scoring five runs, capped off by a 2-RBI single by Harry Schartner, bringing the game to a score of 8-10 in favor of Sturgeon Bay.

After the game break, which included Senior Night honors, the Clippers bats stayed hot while the pioneers faltered. The Clippers blew the game open in the 2nd inning. Bryce Plzak hit a bases-loaded double, which brought home Meyer, Vanderleest, and Brusky. A 2 RBI double by Caleb Plzak in the 3rd and a 2 RBI Error in the 4th by the Pioneer defense add up the runs needed for the 10-run rule to come into play, but the Clippers added three more in the 6th for good measure, finishing the game 13-0.

The Clippers final regular season games will come Friday night in a double header at Kewaunee.

The Pioneers play a road doubleheader at Southern Door on Friday Night before wrapping up the regular season at home against Sheboygan Lutheran on Monday.

Two just over six miles apart will renew acquaintances on Monday when Sturgeon Bay welcomes Sevastopol to campus for a doubleheader.

The Clippers played a pair of close games against Green Bay area teams last week, falling to Southwest 12-7 on Thursday and Preble on Saturday 5-4. "These past two games (GB Southwest and GB Preble) were both hard-fought close games against bigger schools," said Sturgeon Bay Coach Neal Henrigillis. "They are definitely good tests as we get closer to the playoffs. They shine a light on what we need to improve and how far we've come as a team this year. Today, against Preble, I think we played well. However, the difference between good and great is very small. If we can fix those little things I believe the best is still ahead of us this year." The losses dropped the Clippers to 11-10 on the season.

The Pioneers were outscored by the Random Lake Rams, who scored 18 runs in two innings and beat them Friday 23-0 in five innings. The Rams outhit the Pioneers 17-2, with Aidan Isaksen and Tyler Grooters accounting for the only hits for Sevastopol. The Pioneers are 3-12 overall and 3-9 in the Packerland Conference. They last won on April 30th when they swept a doubleheader against NEW Lutheran.

Jacob Nate and Bryan Mazur will have the call on U-102.1 beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

A single tally in the sixth inning by Green Bay Preble spoiled a second trip to Titletown for the Sturgeon Bay baseball team as they lost 5-4.

The two sides traded single runs in the first and three more across the fifth and sixth innings before a Branson Kent RBI double gave the Hornets the tally they needed to take the win. 

Caleb Plzak led the Clippers going 3-4 with an RBI. Trey Vanderleest knocked in two runs while going 1-2. Bryce Plzak took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (4 ER) and seven hits across 2 2/3 innings.

A short-handed Sturgeon Bay team took 4th place (1-2-0) at the Kiel Tournament on Saturday, May 11th.

A stout Sturgeon Bay defense only allowed three goals in three games, and Milan Eliyha scored the Clippers' lone goal. Two of those goals were scored by State Champions Kiel in the second game. In that game, keeper Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had 14 saves. Next up for the Clippers, NEW Lutheran comes to Sturgeon Bay on Thursday, May 16th, for another conference showdown.

Consistency remains the key for the Sturgeon Bay golf team as they won their second consecutive Packerland Championship crown.

Tre Wienke often battled Packerland Conference Player of the Year Evan Maccaux of Kewaunee and Carter Koch of Oconto for the top spot, but his teammates posted their own impressive scores to keep the Clippers in the win column as a team for two years straight. Wienke and Luke Selle captured first-team honors in the Packerland Conference.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team lost the first of their two games this week in Green Bay on Thursday, falling to Green Bay Southwest 12-7.

The two teams played a tight contest early on, with the Clippers' three-run first inning nearly matched by the Trojans' two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Clippers would score two more runs in the fourth inning, thanks in part to an RBI double by Trey Vanderleest. The two teams would trade single tallies after that until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Trojans scored eight times, effectively turning a 7-4 deficit into a 12-7 win.

Danny Lodl led the way offensively with a 3-4 afternoon with three RBI. Patrick Haese and Brody Kollath also drove in runs. Kollath was hooked with the loss, giving up two runs without a hit. Defense ultimately doomed the Clippers, with nine of the 12 runs given up by their pitchers being unearned.

"Tonight I really thought we played well, minus one bad half an inning. We were down 5 players for one reason or another, but the guys we had played really hard and stuck with a big school. We could have come out on top. Unfortunately, we couldn't seal the deal down the stretch," said manager Neal Henrigillis after the game.

The Clippers will be back at Green Bay Southwest at 11 a.m. on Saturday, this time facing Green Bay Preble.

Sturgeon Bay's girls' soccer team won its second consecutive match against Sevastopol/Gibraltar at host Sevastopol, 2-0.

Scoring for the Clippers were Alexis Olson, assisted by Paula Wienke, in the first half, and Malaya Martinez, assisted by Alexis Olson, in the second half.  Clippers keeper Isabella Jimenez Seyfer had two saves in goal.  With the win, Sturgeon Bay improves to 6-6-4 and will travel to Kiel for a tournament on Saturday.

The Sturgeon Bay track team earned a few wins before the rain canceled most of the Algoma Invitational on Tuesday.

Julia Kurek won the 1600m, and Nida Zukauskaite collected a win in the high jump, while Ella Tarkowski and Tiviana Andropolis finished in the top three of the girl's 100m.

Door County's two soccer sides will renew their rivalry Thursday evening as all three area teams are in action.

Sturgeon Bay travels north to face Sevastopol/Gibraltar for a 5 p.m. first kick.

Luxemburg-Casco will stay at home to welcome Ripon for a 6:30 p.m. match.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers and the Peshtigo Bulldogs battled through 35 minutes in a downpour only to have the scoreless game called at the half due to field conditions. In what was shaping up to be a conference showdown, Mother Nature made the final call.... 0-0 at the half, and the game was called by the referees with water gathering on the field in a heavy downpour.  Sturgeon Bay was looking to take the game to even the series with Peshtigo, but that will have to wait until next season or the regional matchups still to be determined. Next up for the Clippers is another conference match at host The United Team (Sevastopol/Gibraltar) on Thursday.

The Sturgeon Bay softball team held on to beat Green Bay West 10-9 thanks to a walk-off home run by Cora Frangipane.

The Clippers had to rally from the first inning after the Wildcats scored five runs in the opening frame. Down 5-1, the Clippers rallied for seven runs in the second inning only to see the Wildcats tie the game in the third with three runs. They would trade a run the rest of the way, forcing the game into extras with the score tied at eight. In the second at-bat of the ninth inning, Frangipane's dinger sent the Clippers to their second win. 

Frangipane scored twice, including her walk-off homer. Annika Schoeneman also scored twice and Jacqueline Barlas had two hits. 

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to end their game against Oostburg early in a 12-2 triumph.

The Clippers jumped out to a 3-0 win in the first inning and added three more in the third to put the Flying Dutchmen before the fatal fifth.  The Clippers didn't even need that many hits as Patrick Haese had two of the team's three hits. The Flying Dutchmen did what they could to help the Clippers around every turn, walking 12 Clippers batters and committing six errors. Braylon LaRoche and Caleb Plzak were credited with RBI in the win while Brody Kollath earned the win as he went the distance, allowing two runs (0 ER) and six hits across five inning while striking out four innings.

Stats for their game against Chilton show that they were tied 2-2 against Chilton with no conclusion.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers won a pair of soccer matches this weekend, routing Valders 8-0 on Friday before beating Wausau East 3-1.

VALDERS

Sturgeon Bay's Alexis Olson scored a hat trick on Friday night leading the team to an 8-0 win over a short handed Valders team.  Valders had only 12 players as 6 were still at school and participating in the school's musical.  Also scoring for the Clippers were Malaya Martinez (2 goals) and Yarrow Goettelmann (2 goals).  The final goal was an own goal off a deflection from a Valders defender.

The team finally found some offensive rhythm in this game making 7 of 16 shots on goal plus the keeper for Valders had 5 saves too.  This was the focus of our game plan and finding success scoring bodes well for our conference games next week. 

WAUSAU EAST

Finally stringing two wins in a row together, Sturgeon Bay turned a first half tie into a solid win with two second half goals.  Malaya Martinez scored in the 28th minute after which Wausau East scored in the 33rd minute.  A stingy Sturgeon Bay defense would not allow a shot on goal the entire second half while Alexis Olson found the back of the goal in the 66th minute putting Sturgeon Bay back on top 2-1. Late in the game at the 78th minute, Milan Eliyha scored the dagger off a corner kick and the 3-1 win.  This was a hard fought win for the Clippers who face conference rival Peshtigo next Tuesdays at Clark Field in Sturgeon Bay.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers softball team was no-hit in the first game and only collected two hits on the day as they lost to Peshtigo 13-0 and 15-0.

The Bulldogs put up crooked numbers in the second, third, and fourth innings while taking advantage of the Clippers' errors, allowing only five of the thirteen runs scored against Annika Schoeneman's ERA. Sam LaCoursiere knocked in four runs for the Bulldogs.

In game two, Maddie Propsom and Jacqueline Barlas collected the only hits of the day for the Clippers. Falling behind 6-0 early, a nine-run fourth inning put the game on hold for the Bulldogs. Taylor Wortner led the way for the Bulldogs with seven RBIs, and she went 4-4. Two other teammates of Wortner's had multi-hit games.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers split their Packerland Conference doubleheader for the second time this week, losing to Peshtigo 7-4 in game one before earning the win 6-2 in the second matchup.

In game one, the Clippers found themselves chasing the Bulldogs ever since they scored three runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs would add on two runs in the third and sixth inning while the Clippers could only muster single tallies. The Plzak brothers went a combined 4-6 and two RBIs with Caleb driving his run in via a home run. Curt Meyer delivered the biggest blows of the game as he drove in two runs.

In game two, the Clippers took advantage of five Peshtigo errors to take game two. Danny Lodl scored twice and Patrick Haese registered two hits in the win.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers softball team was able to pile up runs in a split against Gibraltar/Washington Island on Tuesday, losing game one 14-8 and winning game two 15-9.

In addition to the two teams combining for 21 hits, innings were extended as they also had nine errors. The Vikings jumped out to 13-3 lead, but the Clippers were able to chip away in the third and fourth innings to force the game to go the full seven innings. Emile Glocke and Celeste Ashley both had two RBI for the Vikings with Pam Prescott, Abby Jarosh, Addison Richmond, and Emma Daubner also driving in runs. For the Clippers, Kadence Patza did the most damage as she went 3-4 with five RBI, thanks in part to a triple. Jacqueline Barlas drove in the other two runs. Glocke earned the win from the circle for the Vikings, sending Annika Schoeneman back to the dugout with a loss.

The Clippers' fortunes changed in the second game, scoring seven runs in the first inning and six more in the fourth to end the game after 4.5 innings. Maddie Propsom and Caprice Carbajal both tripled en route to a day where the pair combined for four hits and six RBI. Barlas drove in another three runs with Sophia Sternard, Julia Gregory, and Coral Frangipane also contributing run-scoring hits. Richmond, Jarosh, and Glocke tried to keep the Vikings in the game with two RBI apiece on six combined hits. Glocke led the with three hits. Proposom earned the win for the Clippers as she allowed nine runs (6 ER) on eight hits while striking out six.

The wins were the first of the season for the Vikings and the Clippers.
