Heartbreak for Clippers Baseball as Lead Slips Away to End Season

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball season came to a close Tuesday in tough fashion, dropping a 4-3 regional decision to Bonduel after holding the lead for most of the game.

Siggy Hansen put the Clippers in front 2-1 with a two-run single in the third, and Sturgeon Bay protected that lead all the way into the sixth. Hansen was dealing on the mound too, striking out five over five and a third innings.

Then the bottom of the sixth happened. Bonduel strung together enough to plate three runs and flip the game to 4-2, with none of the runs charged as earned against Ethan Kratcha who came on in relief.

The Clippers battled back with a run in the seventh to make it 4-3 but couldn't complete the comeback.

Rylan Ruenger went 2-for-3 to lead Sturgeon Bay at the plate and Hansen drove in both of the team's first two runs in what was otherwise a gutty performance on both sides of the ball for the Clippers as the season came to a close Tuesday.

Clippers baseball travel to Bonduel for regional semifinal

The Sturgeon Bay baseball team resumes their tournament play on Tuesday with a trip to Bonduel to face the Bears.

The Clippers picked up their upset win on the road last week in a 9-4 win over Coleman. Ethan Kratcha, Steven Prescott, Jack Higginbotham, and Dom Blish all had two hits in the game, accounting for four of the team's six RBI with Rylan Ruenger and Elisha Baumann accounting for the other two. Siggy Hansen went the distance for the win, alllowing four runs (1 ER) on four hits while striking out three over seven innings.

The Bears have not played since an 11-8 loss to Gibraltar/Washington Island last Thursday. Carter Beilfuss paced the Bears with a 2-4 evening that included a double and two RBI.

First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
